Yeah, the one thing that makes me feel pretty good about the upcoming years is how terrible some other GMs are.

I think they are a bit wary of DL now, since most of his deals have worked out.

Nobody's going to avoid making a deal that helps their team. DL is a master because really who has he absolutely screwed over? He keeps good relations because his trades work out for everyone involved imo. He just gets good value.

I hope Dean signs Schenn in the off-season. I really like what he's brought to the team, solid #6.

Considering the only guys in our bottom 6 next year that have anytime of skill to score 10 plus is Vinnie, Brown and King. I think Pearson free of injury will take that next step and I think Brown should be off the top 6 even when Looch leaves. My questions are

1. Even if Vinnie is rumoured to have made a handshake deal to retire, does D/L retain him? Shore and Andy have not impressed and are no where near the 3 C role. Vinnie makes 2.25 per year which is a mil cheaper than Stoll and provides more skill and is someone who can help th PP and brings size up the middle.

2. I am more than fine letting mr hustle Lewis go. He will get paid over 2 mil, is pigeonholed as a winger cause he sucks at face offs, and he is an offensive black hole. I know people love his drive, but will the majority be okay with him going

I guess looking at next years signed players and limited cap space I get a little nervous. We used to have a defense that allowed us to win without offence. Next year outside of our top 2 and Marty who in my mind is still a 4/5 we suck. We cannot rely on our D like we have on the cup runs.

As for Brown he is ours. What GM in his right mind is going to pay a Matt Martin, Cal Clutterbuck type player 6 million a year because he has good leadership qualities!

Not 1 that fits our need of a younger, cheaper #3 RHD. Plus we can add Schenn to that list. I think DL tries re-signing him though but he will have to play for Greenes pay.

Voynov really screwed us.

if we don't sign Lucic we'll have roughly 6m available to spend

would you rather resign Lucic? or spend it on a Goligoski/Yandle type?

i think LA is really abusing Doughty and he needs help asap before he burns himself out

that D has to be fixed somehow and it was never for the sake of our D, but to lighten the burden on Doughty

Yandle is a great offensive Dman but poor defensively and a left hand shot. DL loved him when talking about the U.S team so who knows.

Either way we sign Lucic and the defence has massive holes

We sign a Yandle type and the offence is virtually non existent

Will be an interesting summer

Blake said something about a 5 year window. I could see somewhat of a resetting of the roster if they don't win it. Especially if they don't win it. See what's going on with Lecavalier, Scuderi, and Greene, figure out which free agents go, and probably give 2 or 3 young guys a real chance next year. Not signing any big or long contracts, not trading draft picks, etc.

You got Voynov, and then Brown and Richards don't produce the worth of their contracts. Last year was supposed to be another contending season. Because of those 3 guys, primarily, they had to get Lucic, Schenn, and Lecavalier. You wanted to take advantage of Kopitar's previous contract as much as you could, so this season is also supposed to be a contending season. His contract is now going up, the cap is probably at best staying the same, and the Kings don't have a Patrick Kane to carry the offense.

If they don't win, that's two years in a row. It's tough to get back up the mountain. It's tough to have that same chemistry. Other teams start getting better, the Kings a year older, etc.

It is pretty crazy to think about the bad fortunes of this team.

What would you have thought in 2012 if someone told you by 2015 Voynov would be out of the league, Brown would be a 4th liner and Richards would riding buses in the AHL.

Probably about the same feeling I would have gotten if you told me in the middle of the 2012 season that by that time we'd also have two cups

Hockey is crazy.

and i'm pretty sure that we're the only team in NHL history that had a player walk to FA for nothing despite winning the Conn Smythe trophy the previous year

that, in itself, is crazy

that lack of foresight cost us a 1st round pick at last year's trade deadline have we decided to deal Williams, let alone the 1st we gave up for Sekera

there have been more than a few costly miscalculations by our management the past two seasons

can't really fault DL for missing out on the Richards contract buyout, but almost everything else since then has been desperate

Williams had been bad for a while. I doubt you'd get much more for him then the Kings gave up for Versteeg.

Forbort - Sounds like he'll be a roster player next season. Management is very high on him and are very happy with his progression. They say he's currently an NHL-ready player, but there is no room on the Kings so they want him playing in Ontario.

Mersch - Another NHL-ready player that is the prototypical King. Great size, underrated intelligent, and off-the-charts compete level. Sounds like he'll make the opening night roster with Gravel. Another utility player; can play in the top 9. Kopitar and Carter have both remarked to management how much they like playing with him.

Gravel - Extremely hungry player. All he wants is to be on the Kings. Nothing else matters to him.

Zykov - Never grew into what the Kings expected. On some nights he's a first line player and the next night he's a fourth line player. Never developed the consistency they wanted.

that's really good news regarding Forbort & Gravel, they'll most likely replace Greene & McBain

I know at least one poster has been pointing out a Forbort-Gravel pairing would be/has been nasty. Awesome to hear they'll both get real cracks.

Really cool to hear about Mersch from roster players, too, that's fantastic.

Those cheap (Gravel/Forb/Mersch) contracts will be needed in the event of Lucic being resigned. Mersch replaces Lewis, Gravel and Forb replace Schenn and Greene/Scuderi (if one of those geriatrics retires).

schenn has to know he's lucky to not have been waived by philly and buried in the minors. i bet he signs a greene style deal to have stability for his family.

No mention of Kempe?

I knew I forgot someone. Posted that from my phone. Yannetti did talk about Kempe. He said he's a man among boys and is the Kings definitive #1 prospect. He also said he'd be on the majority of other NHL teams by now, but it's a combination of the Kings not having any room and wanting him to overdevelop. Based on what he said, I wouldn't be shocked to see him play a game or two on the Kings by the end of the year. Sounded like there is a very high likelihood of him being on the opening night roster. Finally, he talked about his compete level (something management puts as a top priority) and said it's up there with the best they've ever seen as evidenced by the Calder Cup run and his performance during the World Juniors. He's untouchable and a very, very special player. Management has huge plans for him (similar to Toffoli).
