It would be, but in my view, if you can trade that pick for an immediate long-term solution at D...isn't that what you're hoping to get with the pick anyway?

Trouba in particular was picked 9th overall.

And again not saying him in particular but I don't have ANY problem with dumping any and all assets for long-term solutions (provided it's not like, lol Kempe for Weise, I think you know what I mean) because that's exactly what picks and prospects are we hope. (i.e Simmonds/Schenn for Richards).

I agree that Trouba would be what I would dream that pick to turn into...just already developed. Which is why it would cost Pearson to.

Not saying I don't get it, I just like the draft and the entertainment of the last few has gone away. That said being a playoff team, and a cup contender is way more entertaining that picking a 17 year old.

That's what I thought as well, liek a McNabb/Pearson/1st for Trouba. That one got shot down obviously but something to that effect.

Cap... it's McNabb/Pearson/1st/Brown at min to make it work next year with the cap.

-High priced rentals... It'd be better to just get a long term solution.
-Long term solution: team looking to move RHD RFA that need large pay increase. Possible targets, Trouba, Barrie, maybe someone from Buffalo... These teams all need LHD coming back. McNabb isn't enough, Muzzin too much... so that's Martinez. I see no way Lombardi deals Martinez before the playoffs. That pushes this option until after the playoffs.
-RHD options are thin... that was before Gilbert went down... lol... J.Schultz doesn't help a team win..
-That leaves depth LHD pick up... think something like the Regehr trade.

Justin Schultz. Is he a lost cause or can Sutter and the Kings structure help salvage his career and turn him into a 2nd pairing defenseman? May not be the best idea to try this year but maybe an offseason move that wouldn't cost a lot in assets.

Dean went all-in last season and then at the draft...no more dry powder left at this point.

The "major" trade already happened when DL picked up a 3C and a physical RHD for scraps but even that took creativity to get done because the Kings don't really have attractive assets in play.

This is the team pretty much. Gaborik injury is a killer.

Too many buyers for d men and not enough sellers. :(

If the Kings are truly out of the d man market, then I hope it costs the other contenders a pretty penny if they do get one. Hopefully they don't though.

There's being out of the high end D man market, and then there's bargain hunting!!! Lombardi loves him some reclamation projects on the cheap!

Not a lost cause, I think he made a bad choice signing with a team that had no leadership or structure.
I agree with Pierre (who also said he thinks they'd want a young prospect over a pick. And given that the Oilers are willing to eat half his contract, a good bargain.

At the end of the day, Schultz is a better player than he's shown in Edmonton where he's lost all confidence. Good buy-low candidate

Well, maybe we can pony up some cheap prospect for Edmonton.

I was hoping Nolan

Schultz is more of an off season project where you have most of a season for him to regain form. I'm not sure about him turning it around by the end of the season. After reading the comments on the EDM board I'm not enthusiastic about this player. He was a -3 in their last 4-1 loss and the reporters are asking the coach why Schultz is getting so much ice time.

On the other hand the Kings could run

Schult(1)/Doughty
Muzzin/Schultz(2)
Martinez/Schenn....

At some point (re J schultz) you have to wonder if a guy is worth the hassle even if he's talented. After how he departed anaheim and seems content to be run out of edmonton, i don't care if its a loss of confidence, the guy is a tool. If you think you're so good that you need to play NOW and you're worth that money NOW then back up that mouth or stop pouting like a ***** when you get run over.

Only Doughty, Muzzin and Martinez have significant playoff experience anyway, so the other three dmen in the lineup, out of Schenn (7 GP in PO), McNabb, Gravel, Forbort, Justin Schultz (good idea on him I think) and McBain are all equally inexperienced. Besides, the young guys have to get playoff experience at some point.

Really. Exaggerated reactions by Ducks and Oilers fans. I would say immature, misguided and improperly developed. Reclamation and redemption. The perfect KING!

Perhaps, but I hope dl doesn't get caught trying to be too clever, thinking he can fix schultz. why does this ass clown deserve icetime ahead of one of our own prospects anyway. **** him, let him go to ottawa to play "d" with mr norris.
