Lots of eyes on Kings and Flames tonight too... 19 total scouts/reps in attendance, 9 non-regulars

You want scouts, we got scouts: Non-regular scouts at CGY/LA: STL SJS TBL TOR CBJ DET MTL ANA (2)

What's interesting here is that Mersch, Gravel, and Nolan were all scratched, so we can be confident that those aren't the pieces that would be going the other way in any deal with the aforementioned teams.

Looking at those clubs there are only a select few that make sense for LA to trade with do to inter division/conference and standing. Of those most would likely be looking at Calgary not LA.

Lombardi hasn't traded anyone that played a role in either of the Cups, other than guys that wanted to go. Gagne, Bernier, Jones. I don't think Nolan would go, but Mersch or Gravel? They haven't been part of that winning team yet. Same with Shore or Andreoff. Even though the Kings need cheap young players, it wouldn't surprise me if any of those guys went in a deal Lombardi felt comfortable doing. Same with Forbort, or Kempe, or whoever else.

One criticism Lombardi had when he got the job was that he was too married to prospects. I'd say that's pretty much gone out the window, starting with getting Penner for a recent 1st round pick, and another future 1st round pick. Maybe even Williams. He hasn't stopped since. Richards, Carter, Sekera, Lucic. All costing young players, prospects, and picks.

This moment in time, or this span of time, where the team is winning championships, is where every GM wants to be. This is what they do their job for. This is where Lombardi set out to be. He's got the best core he's probably ever going to have, for as long as he's a GM. There's risk, but I imagine he's all in, whatever that may mean, and deal with the consequences later. Whether that's trying to sign Lucic and others with no cap space, or having to replace more prospects, or whatever.

TBL/DET are both unlikely looking at the Kings. They're in buy mode and looking to add players for the playoffs.

TOR/CBJ/MTL are the sellers right now. It is interesting that they'd be scouting the Kings and not the Reign. I don't really expect a roster player of significance to move before the deadline.

keep reading..where i said of those they were more likely scouting the flames.

Det and TB are buyers.

MTL has bee rumored to be after backlund

Leaves Columbus and Toronto.

I could see Detroit and Calgary doing a deal around Wideman for Howard when Wideman's appeals are all sorted out.

This should surprise no one :D

But really, I don't think there's anyone in CLB that's on our radar. Bourque is the only expiring contract, and he's a shell of his former self. Hartnell has too much contract, and the rest of the guys are young, cheap, and would cost roster players. The fit isn't there this year.

Toronto, hell I can't even think of an upgrade outside of some of the guys on IR.

The Los Angeles Kings were looking hard at the market for the longest time, wondering what might make sense in terms of a defenseman. But a source suggested to me Tuesday evening that Kings GM Dean Lombardi has now decided the high prices on the thin rental-defenseman market may not be worth it. I still think Lombardi is willing to add a defenseman if the price is modest, but I don't think he's going to be as aggressive as he was last year when he went for Andrej Sekera for a first-round pick. In addition to the potential to adding on defense, the Kings could also add up front to help fill the void left by the injured Marian Gaborik. One name I've heard that could be on the radar for the Kings is that of Edmonton Oilers pending UFA Teddy Purcell, although it's a deep rental forward list this year, so the Kings have lots to pick from if they do go after a winger.

Yeah, he was talking about Lombardi backing off on the d-man market last night on TSN.

Bourdon was looking like a defensive stud...feel for him and his family.

I think looking at the 2005 draft it is more appropriate to point out Brule (EDM), Skille (CHI)....actually basically anybody taken before Kopitar not named Crosby (maybe Price).

Brian Lee!

Not at all shocked to hear about potentially backing off on the rentals at those stupid-high prices. But I don't think that writes off a 'hockey deal' for a longer-term guy. I can't picture a world where we do nothing at the TDL here. Keep in mind we were one LTIR from probably having a top 4 of Doughty-Muzzin / Martinez - Greene / McNabb, McBain, Ehrhoff, Forbort, Schenn

I think he'd be fine as a 2nd pairing guy, if not flat out great at it, but his confidence is in the trash right now and he's just making stupid mistakes like falling down repeatedly.

McNabb belongs nowhere near the top 4. I've defended the guy, but he's been a dumpster fire this season.

I think we sometimes forget how little he has actually played at the NHL level. He just finished game 166. So he's just started his 3rd year in the league. Because he's 25 I think we sometimes think he's a 5 year vet already making these mistakes.

Even if one doesn't believe he'd improve, it's easy to acknowledge he's playing top-pairing matchups/minutes; I think being moved down the lineup with another puck-mover he'd be good-to-great. Problem is right now he sucks WITH Doughty because of the matchups and minutes, but he sucks AWAY from Doughty because he can't carry a pairing on his own.

Sutter brought Bourque to Calgary I believe. That said we have better LW's in King and Clifford in out bottom 6 already.

I agree with you on Toronto. I don't mind Marincin but don't see him as an improvement over anyone in LA's top 6.

seeing how McNabb is still developing maybe he can be dealt with a + for a better top 4? not sure who fits that bill, but just a thought

McNabb has been absolute ****, and I don't believe he'll improve.

I think we've been spoiled so far with how well our dmen have developed over the last few seasons, namely Muzzin. I dont think its fair or realistic to think McNabb will learn or adapt as fast as Muzz did. He has been really inconsistent which is what I think is most concerning; some games I wont notice him at all and other games Im pulling my hair out because of his gaffes. he's only 25 and dmen do take longer to develop so Im not counting him out just yet. I believe he will improve

That's what I thought as well, liek a McNabb/Pearson/1st for Trouba. That one got shot down obviously but something to that effect.

I don't like the thought of dealing the 2017 first...at some point it owuld be nice to draft in round 1

It would be, but in my view, if you can trade that pick for an immediate long-term solution at D...isn't that what you're hoping to get with the pick anyway?

Trouba in particular was picked 9th overall.

And again not saying him in particular but I don't have ANY problem with dumping any and all assets for long-term solutions (provided it's not like, lol Kempe for Weise, I think you know what I mean) because that's exactly what picks and prospects are we hope. (i.e Simmonds/Schenn for Richards).
