Plagiarizing myself here but a lil project I did for another thread:

Just a quick theory, then off to my meeting--the numbers with our 'possession' forwards, like Shore and Lewis and Brown, are possibly better with Doughty due to shot suppression. Those guys GET shots no matter who they are with. Reason I have for thinking that is because Muzzin is high-event--he gets mega-high shot generation but also high CA (which would also explain why his % was better when paired with Doughty the last couple of years).

Kopitar has 4 goals in the last 12 games, and 3 came in 1 game.
Toffoli has 1 in his last 12, and it bounced off his leg.
Carter has 1 in his last 13, and he wasn't even shooting it.
Lucic has 2 in the last 10, and 3 in 18.
Brown has 4 in 20, 3 of which were against the Coyotes, and a late goal in Boston.
Pearson has 1 in 17, and it was 3v3.
Lecavalier has 5 in 17, and 4 have come on the PP.
King has 2 in 14.
Lewis has 2 in 20.

4-7 since that Minnesota game at home, with 2 wins in OT, so 2-7 in regulation. Those 2 wins being blowouts, in Boston and Arizona, with some weird goals in them. 6-8 since the Ottawa game where they lost a 3-1 3rd period lead.

Nothing too solid going on for the Kings in the last month or so.

Dam is going to break soon...again...not like the Bruins game but all spread out! League high CF% and league low PDO is just all sorts of lol

I'm thinking Yandle is the play now. Rangers are reluctant to trade him because of McDonagh's injury, but I think Dean is pushing hard. Though he's not a righty, his depth would be very useful.

Muzzin-Doughty
Yandle-Martinez
McNabb-Schenn

Or

Muzzin Doughty
McNabb-Martinez
Yandle Schenn

Or

Yandle Doughty
McNabb-Muzzin(who I think is good enough to play Right D with time)
Martinez-Schenn

mechanically, our PDO is going to shoot up when Carter gets better.

OK, I brought up this guy before, but most peeps here jumped on me. I'm bringing him up again....

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/david_savard

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=106685

He's only 25 years old.....

He's a right-handed D................

He's got good size @ 6.02, 227lbs..................

He's signed for the next five seasons after this one.........

Though his +/- isn't very good, it's 'cuz he plays for the Blue Jackets...........

Yes, he'll cost us. Most likely our 2017 first round pick. And probably also one of Kempe or Mersch or maybe even Pearson. More than likely, at least one defenseman prospect as well.

If we're talking about a long-term solution to filling the top-4, right-handed defenseman spot vacated by Voynov, I challenge you to find a better solution.

Thoughts?

Savard is nice but CBJ has zero reason to trade him, that's why we haven't been talking about him. Though that IS DL's Mo....

LoL! I'm looking through NHL rosters for right-handed defenseman and am finding that about 85% of all defenseman are listed as "shoots left"..... is this for real?

That's what makes them a valuable commodity. They're hard to come by.

Stupid dumb**** piece of **** ******* *********** ************ ******** Slava Voynov had to **** things up for the Kings by being a wifebeating jackass.

Cody Franson would be our #8 guy now. He is a bad defenseman. Have you watched him play this season? I have and he scares me.

Is it that he's bad, or that he plays for a team that's bad?

I wonder if Winnipeg would entertain the notion of trading Tyler Myers in order to keep Andrew Ladd long-term.... hmmmmmm........

Franson is bad. Think Schenn with a big shot.

There's a reason he couldn't hack it when he went back to Nashville.

It is still a bit crazy how young the defense is. We don't think of it, but Martinez and Muzzin have played a combined 579 regular season games. Doughty has 580. Doughty has played the equivalent of 7.1 seasons, Schenn 6.6, Martinez 3.8, Muzzin 3.2, McNabb 1.99, and Gravel has played 4 games.

This, especially as they just re-signed him last off season. With Columbus getting Jones they could potentially deal a d-man once Murray realizes his potential and stays healthy...however I think that d-man would be JMFJ or tyutin

what about a pure rental second center and bumping carter up to the first rw to negate the impact of losing gaborik? (eric stall at 50% retention as a pure rental kinda thing) haven't seen that avenue ventured down in many roster or trade threads. carter looked scary on the wing for those couple games and 17 - 11 - 77 could be fun. just a random shower thought.

I almost said the same thing word for word last night. They may never be able to replace him because these guys don't come around too often.

Trust me, you do not want him. If you could staple him to the bench and only have him play the power play, then he's not bad. But anything involving defense and he's a disaster

This is the most concise and direct scouting report I've ever seen for Erik Karlsson.

That's very true, Voynov was a high 2nd round selection, going 32nd overall in 2008.

The Kings won't have a pick that high for a good while. Meanwhile, Voynov has ruined his career and hasn't even scored a goal yet in the KHL. He has 6 assists in 23 games. Way to flush your career down the toilet, *******.

And even if the Kings did find a gem like him in a late round, we're still looking at best 4 years to make the NHL.
