well most of these players come up through juniors and do not have a college education to fall back on. So if they were to get "fired" they would have nothing to fall back on. These guys have given their lively hood for the game, and true it is something that most fans would gladly switch spots with, but doesn't mean they can just be cast away when a team is done with them.
You are ok to have your opinion on the guaranteed contract but this is one hf-issue that I would side with the players.
I say HF-issue cause I have not hear it as an issue anywhere else.

What about the guys that play in juniors and never make it to the NHL, should the fans take care of them as well?

The players aren't being cast aside. They are either good enough to play in the NHL or they aren't. It isn't like a player that is cut wouldn't get another opportunity with another team for less pay.

sutter is shuffling everything in last 5 games or so. some good things happened, and he made some bad things very visible. kopi-looch-gabby is a bad combo, that's a fact now. bottom6 had some fun, a lot of interesting things happened there. but everything is fluid. i suspect one bad game from a combo and sutter will break it - until such a policy brings results. lak runs like a river now, never the same. toi is also strange, kopi was given a small break, dd not there yet. sutter in the kitchen making a strong chili con carne, meat is there, spices as well, but it's slow cooking.

I dont think he will break up the Looch/Kopi/TT line for some time, the King/Lewis/Brown line also played extremely well the last two games. hopefully when Carts is healthy we will have 3 solid lines more or less..I just am unsure of who he will put on that line along with Pearson. Gaborik has been a stinker lately

I think what King/Lewis/Brown did last night is more of an admorality than the standard.
One Carter is back LA will be able to lean on Carter/Kopitar lines and then hopefully get secondary scoring every 3rd game or so from the Brow/King line. That would be nice IMO

i agree, tyler made kopi & looch look good instantly, and that can become a cup winner 1st line. carter healthy will add another dimension in mixing the bottom9. anyhow, it's fun to watch them adapt to each other and having good games, right now lak is a very good team.

Brown and Lewis were really sharp in the Vancouver game with AndyAndy on their line as well. King is definitely an upgrade over him. they probably wont be as offensive as they were last night but those three on a checking line is pure sex

but how far down is gabba in terms of points produced this year? is he really so lost?

sometimes i feel like people are too "what have you done for me lately?"

I would be up for moving out gaborik not because he is off to a slower start but more due to the length of his contract

they have the option to, and have a high school education.
The guys who get drafted and then would get cut would not have that option

I don't see your logic on this one. The guys that get cut from an NHL roster have plenty of time and more importantly money to go to school, even if they are cut after 1 or 2 seasons. The truth is most guys in this boat are going to head to Europe and try to make money playing hockey.

okay well that's a slightly diff issue than getting on him for a few bad games. he's been pretty awesome this season overall imho.

gaborik is passing the eye test to me so far, he's shooting way below his career average

honestly as long as he keeps playing well I think the production will come at some point, much like we've seen lately with Brown

he has more good games than bad..I just worry at some point very soon it will swing the other way. so should try and deal him while he may still have value. Ideally in the offseason so we have him for the playoffs this year

Gaborik-Carter-Pearson?

That's a pretty quick line, maybe a different look from the grinding/possession style of the other lines? :dunno:

besides the eye test - which personally i think is too subjective and kinda old school ;) (i like stats) - gabba has 13 points in 36 games. so who has been better on the kings so far, besides carter and toffoli. anyone?

i like stats too - but he's being outproduced by basically every other forward on the roster that isn't on the 4th line

i'm not saying the eye test is the end all be all, but in certain cases like this it works alright. Gaborik just doesn't look like he's playing badly enough to warrant his actual production being that far behind. His goal-scoring hasn't even been that bad compared to the rest of the team, but it could obviously be better considering that's his main role. He's shooting at only ~7% which is dreadful for his standards.

I don't really think it's worth moving him, I think he's still capable of being a dangerous weapon and his cap hit isn't super outrageous enough to move unless we're getting a pretty quality piece back. You're going to run into similar issues as with trying to move Brown - older and relatively overpaid for what he currently provides, meaning the Kings would likely have to effectively overpay just to ship him out.

gabby: the main question is where to put him. it was always kopi and gabby, and it was a struggle lately, and then tyler and looch came in big time. gabby is losing his role in the 1st line. with whom should he play? in normal circumstances i'll put him with carter, but that's not an option now.

oh i forgot kopi of course... and didnt realize looch and pearson had that many pts., esp pearson. he's seemed kinda quiet at times.

brown only JUST past gabba last night as he loaded up 3 pts last night, perhaps spurred on by king's return.

i think you could say gabba's being outproduced by the other forwards on the top 2 lines, but he's still, imo, playing better than all forwards on btm 6, even brown, up till now.

yeah i understand what you're saying about eye vs stats... sometimes you can fall back on the former, but only along with considering the latter imo.

With King back and when Carter gets healthy, Sutter will have many options up front.

Mix in Doughty playing 40 minutes (exaggerating for effect), and Muzzin playing 30 minutes a night in the playoffs and you have the same formula Chicago used last season.

I like this idea... mostly because it'll give Sutter heartburn watching that line.

i agree, but because we have other guys who ARE producing better on the top line...he's a middle six forward for now. Again, I don't even think he's playing badly, I think he's due for some puck luck with how low his shooting % is. Not worried about Gaborik right now - if he's struggling to reach 15-20G in March then yeah, maybe hit the panic button.

I don't like some of his turnovers, but Gabby's effort is all there and almost all the indicators are positive.

Just like Toffoli, it's only a matter of time before Gabby nets goals in bunches.

Gaborik is on pace for 16 goals. I bet he'll have a couple multi-goal games though. I'd be shocked if he doesn't finish with at least 20. He's still a very, very good player.
