Yandle-Staal I'm ok with. Staal is a coffin offensively, but presumably can suppress shots when his ankle isn't broken.

McDonagh-Boyle is a dream pair.

One of girardi Klein or mcilrath has to be traded they all provide the same thing(granted slightly differently). We can't have 3 slow defensive dmen on the same side. If we were smart we'd dump girardi and his cap for futures but we'll probably end up trading klei

All of Boyle, Girardi and Staal have NMC's. Even if the Rangers could convince one of them to waive that the Rangers are not in any position to dictate that that player will just go anywhere. For instance would you want to go to Dallas--a team that didn't make it to the playoffs last year with the possibility of having a natural gas well in your backyard cranking all day and night along with the odd seismic shock/earthquake? If you could convince one of them to go their choice of destination is going to figure into it very largely and with any of them it probably would come down to one or two places.

If a roster defenseman gets traded it's 99% going to be Klein. And there's the possibility that McIlrath gets moved as well--though if Klein is traded--it's more likely that McIlrath won't.

Ok let's get something straight here. Malkin has 111pts in 101 career playoff games with 42 goals. Hes played in two cup finals and won the cup once.

Not to mention he won the freaking Conn Smythe.

The draft is two weeks away. Free agency begins 5 days later. Game seven of the finals is next Friday. The buyout period begins 48 hours after the last game in the finals which would June 21. This is going seven games. Arbitration deadline is July 5. That is the NHL off season. The cap number used to come out on the night of the draft but that's changed with Fehr in charge. They drag it out until June 30th. $71M cap. The players are expected to use the full 5% because using 2.5% might see the cap go down. $71M is the bottom of the range mentioned by Bettman last December. That $71M is with the loonie trading .9405 on July 1,2014 and it was .8967 on October 1. The loonie is .81 cents right now. It is expected to stay close to .81 cents for the foreseeable future. It could go down to .78 cents again or increase to .83 cents. That hurts the 2016-17 cap. The 300 day moving average for the loonie is almost .87 cents. The Rangers need a two year plan because the cap isn't having a dramatic increase with the loonie trading in the low 80 cents range for the 2016-17.

Land of no calls..
Boyle played about half his ES minutes with Staal this year

His next two most common partners are Moore, Hunwick, and McDonagh

That was rhetorical. Just illustrating that saying Boyles numbers get better with easier matchups doesn't mean much, let alone serve as a basis to let him get ice time with McD on the top pairing.

Q: What are you looking forward to in next year’s season?

A. Just to come back, and do it all again, one more step. That final step. We’re there. We’re close as a team. And there’s no secrets. Next year we’re going for the Cup. That’s the goal, and that’s what I’m here to work for, and the entire team and organization, we all feel like we’re close..

Staal on the right side sounds horrible.
If no defensemen are moved, I'd like to see:

McDonagh-Boyle
Yandle-Girardi
Staal-Klein

I think.

I'd like to see the most common Forward Linemates of each of our defensemen.

The only way that could be worse:

McD-Klein
Yandle-Boyle
Staal-Girardi

Yandle for Okposo is such a genius proposal its disgusting. Isles have a crowded forward group and need a yandle. Not sure what a yandle brings but he's a yandle. They can have him. Rangers need a 40/30 grit grinder who could just muck it up in the corners and in front of the net with a low center of gravity. Insert Okposo. Not to mention, their cap hits for this year are only a couple hunge apart and then they are UFAs.

The Islanders aren't trading us Okposo.

And at the same time, we should be not even close to considering trading Yandle.

Why are people even considering trading Yandle? 2.65m cap hit, puck-moving and point-producing D-man. Top D-man in points over the last 5 years, outscoring Duncan Keith and Shea Weber... If we can re-sign him next year for 6.5m that's a steal
