Boyd Gordon scored again

It had been more than a year since his last goal when he scored against us. Now he was two in three games.

Quenneville pulled Darling with a lot of time on the clock left at the end of the game.

When you're skating around with a concussion you don't always understand/process what your eyes are seeing. Or even that you probably shouldn't be on the ice. I played two periods with a concussion thinking I was just really tired, and didn't really process much of what happened after that ***** crosschecked my head into the glass.

This is why I think this situation is not black and white. It's hard to really assess where Wideman's brain was at the time.

Also, this whole arbitration thing was portrayed by several writers as a league vs. union thing. If so, it seems to me that the league is still the winner here in one sense. The dude still served 95% of his suspension. If these arbitration things are going to take this long, the league is pretty much always going to sit the player for the allotted time. Isn't the Calgary organization the real loser here? They had to pay a guy 9 games for doing nothing, yes? Or do I misunderstand the salary situation here?

I think Wideman's was much more malicious... Landy just missed on his cross check. It was a dumb play by Landy, but I don't think he had intent on hurting Depres. Wideman... I have real doubts about his intent. On top of that, refs are WAY off limits, Depres was a bit late but late hits happen.

During any given season, we could probably pick out plays that are worse than both.

Ouch. They're not even locked into a playoff spot yet with the Flyers right on their heels.

I want to see Pittsburgh miss the playoffs solely for offseason excitement. Something has to happen if they miss the playoffs, and something big. I'd guess one of Crosby/Malkin/Fleury/Letang would be moved, and they probably also want to get rid of Kessel as quickly as possible.

probably not the best idea to trade one of your best players if you miss the playoffs.

take note avs.

Good game between the Rangers and Penguins, sick pass by Kuhnhackl for Sheary's second goal. Actually Penguins later round selections have been some really good game changers. They have...

- Tom Kuhnhackl: 4th round, #110th overall
- Bryan Rust: 3rd round, #80th overall
- Conor Sheary: Undrafted, signed ELC
- Dominik Simon: 5th round, #137th overall
- Scott Wilson: 7th round, #209th overall

I appreciate the Avs at least having a sense of direction they want to head to, but again, I would much prefer to draft players with high hockey IQ than ones that have the physical tools. What would you rather have, a team full of Kreiders' with physical tools or a team full of Zuccarellos' who can actually make plays?

And seriously is there a more overrated family of players than the Staals? I know Marc had a lot to deal with concerning his eye, but his eye doesn't make you skate like a brick in a tar brick. Then he lacks the hockey intelligence to stand in front of the net and reflexes to clear the puck away. Then you have Eric who looks like he has just given up on life and hockey. You have Jared who sucks, only decent player is Jordan who forced his way out to have a bigger role. A bigger role where he has been quite average in. Just a very overrated family who gets so much recognition and I have no idea why...

Big difference though. That Penguins team has arguably been stagnant for 7 years now. I wouldn't move a big star but I think it will happen if they miss.

those guys are the smallest reason they have been stagnant.

outside of fleury from 10-12.

they might trade one star and they still have the same issues. well they fixed one of the biggest issues already that hurt them this season. firing mike johnston.

The team has been built so poorly since their last cup win with little-to-no attention being paid to the backend and the evolving nature of defensemen needing to be more mobile and puck-savvy. But if they miss the playoffs, that's the last thing they'll look towards if you ask me. I think a big player is on the way out should they miss.

Mmm i wouldnt necessarily agree with that. They did try. They drafted Maata, Pouliot and Despres with what few 1st round picks they did have since they won and drafted Harrington in the 2nd, traded for Dumolin in the Staal package.
I see what your saying i mean they probably should have used the money they paid for Phil to keep Niskanen on board and not traded Despres. And even if they did those two things they still needed another big cog to replace Orpik.

Then they went and traded Despres and Harrington, didn't handle Pouliot particularly well and saw Maatta suffer an incredibly unfortunate amount of injuries. They just haven't seemed to place a very high emphasis on defensemen who are mobile and can move the puck, and instead have seemed to like the big, sluggish defensemen who would fit in the 90's but look awful today. At least until a few months ago.

Well, the Pens didn't exactly draft all that well in recent years and made some major stumbles personnel-wise, so I can kinda see why they decided to boot Shero and Bylsma. A fresh start and new direction was definitely needed. Opting for a burned-out Jim Rutherford was where they went completely wrong.

If Mario played the same amount of games as Gretzky, would he have been 1st all-time in points even over Wayne? I think it would be close, but I'm thinking yes he would.

Lemeiux's PPG average is lower. It was higher after his initial retirement, though.

if mario had played same amount of games, aging/fatigue would've caught up with him sooner or later. even if he had been able to stay healthy. he had higher ppg after intial retirement than the great one but he wasn't going to maintain that as those were his prime years or close to his prime years. great one had better ppg at similar age.

plus the great one had even bigger edge in era when he played, higher scoring.

Also talk about removing ability of PK to ice the puck during power plays.

and this is...

Tim Murray says there was talk about limiting time defensemen can spend in trapezoid to limit delays while teams change lines.

something you'd expect from NHL..
