I'm more interested in the expansion draft talk than rule changes right now. Everyone keeps saying the NHL doesn't want a bad expansion team(s) and good players will likely have to be made available. That worries me.

Friedman said they're considering making players with a NMC ineligible, which means teams with a few of those will potentially lose better players because of it. He also said teams want to know the criteria now so they can plan for it. One GM told him there could be some interesting contracts handed out this summer just to satisfy that expansion draft criteria. Basically, they'd sign guys to multi-year deals to make them available for the draft the following summer.

we have bad depth so it's unlikely to hurt the avs as much as some others

but that might change in a year or two.

Concerning the long change. For it to happen every period would mean one of two things for it to work. Either teams change benches, or teams defend the same end of the ice the whole game.

Teams cannot change benches, as most arenas have separate hallways to each locker room. To have them walk out through one bench, skate onto the ice, then set up on the other bench would be awkward. Plus, they would not have access to their own stuff mid-period...no skate fixes, no trainers room, etc.

Good luck convincing season ticket holders that chose their seats for attack twice end to be quiet about having the team all of a sudden never attack that end.

Originally, the end change was to even out the advantages of environment (sun, wind, etc.). As the game moved inside, it remained due to convention, and some rinks being odd...bouncier boards at one end, Zam doors, etc. And that it partly evened up the experience for spectators...both ends got to see the home team score up close for at least part of the game. That last reason is the only one that should remian...but it is a biggie. If I dropped $13k each for tickets on the glass to watch Varly up close two periods a game, and the NHL decided to switch that to him being at the far end the whole game, I would sue for a refund if need be.

Heck, there is even a pricing difference for rows 2-7 for attack twice end compared to attack once. An extra $1k per season. But not for any other ranges of seat. Glass seats are the same all the way around, and past row 7, it is just based on section.

It sounds like we will hear some of the details on all of that tomorrow.

I'm guessing we see something based a max number of F, D, and G and a max cap hit on those players. Something like ~8F, ~4D, and 1 or 2G (with a trade off being less forwards and defensemen able to be protected) with a max cap hit of $55-60m (probably lower than higher)... only 1st and 2nd year NHL contracts ineligible.

A team like the Hawks would maybe only be able to protect Towes, Kane, Seabrook, Keith, Crawford, Anisimov/Panarin, and Hammer with an extra or two. Meaning players like Shaw, TT, and Panarin/Anisimov could be available.

My toughts on rules:
1) Don't care much about PP rule changes, 5vs5 goals are usually more exciting.
2) Love the trapezoid, would make it even smaller. I'm not watching hockey to see goalies handle the puck and clear the zone, let the attacking team get to it and create offence. Plan B (if you want to get rid of the trapezoid) let it be open season on the goalies, you get out of the blue you get smacked like anyone else.
3) Hirsh is right on goalie equipment, this stuff needs to be implemented.

Need the Sens to win for a couple of different reasons tonight. Canes and Habs winning wouldn't be bad either.

First priority is making the playoffs but gotta keep an eye on the other side of things as well.

Yep. Nothing wrong with eastern conference teams picking up points.

I don't like the complete the entire PP rule or no icing because then it becomes even more in the ref's hands to control the game by calling/not calling penalties. My peeve is offsides, so many great chances are killed by it. I'm not saying eliminate the rule entirely but make the change so that guys coming into the zone on a scoring chance don't get stopped as much as they do.

I'm not too worried about expansion, they won't make a team lose their young talent. Guys like Beauch and soda would be at risk, not guys like Bigras and Rantanen.

Couple of idiotic plays by Hoffman on that PP. Has the puck with time and space at the point, so he for some reason charges down toward the defenseman by the circle and tries to take a shot, which obviously gets deflected and sent out of the zone. Then on the next rush he makes a ******** dump in to nobody with none of the Sens anticipating it. The Wild get to the puck first with plenty of time, hit the man coming out of the penalty box, and the Wild go up 2-1. :shakehead

Would of been nice if Ottawa had something to play for like fighting for a playoff spot but they are just stuck in no tank no playoff territory just basically nothing to play for
