Forward and goalie depth is a problem in the organization right now at the professional level. Amadio (other than Prohorkin who is another story), looks like the only forward prospect who is ready for the AHL. With the Bartosak situation up in the air, the goalie prospects are virtually nill.

Who will the Kings sign from Juniors to help the Reign offense next year? Mistele? Watson? Marchment?

Amadio is a sure signing I believe.

I would not at all be surprised if the Kings take a shot at either a European or NCAA pro ready goalie once their seasons end. They have pretty much zero goaltending depth and there are generally a lot of free agent NCAA goalies to pick from that will do the job well and aid the system. Alec Dillon is years away still.

Erik Ersberg come on down!

Totally agree though. And have to imagine they have sights set on some NCAA free agents

Amadio, Mistele, Watson are having good OHL seasons and are 95/96
not sure how capable Jake Marchment is ?
Austin Wagner is doing well for Regina pats in WHL at around 33 points in 37 games but born June 97 so maybe another year in WHL - 6.2 and 180 so a big boy - maybe a 3rd/4th liner in the future ?

Power play 0 for 30 last 7 games every player gets to move up the line up except for certain players, maybe try some different players out their, players that are under an NHL contract not given any opportunity they just rot on the bottom lines.maybe throw em a bone every now and then.just a thought.....

You forgot about this guy: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=231966

Kid's KHL deal expires at the end of this season and would be a prime player to come in and snatch one of the C jobs. Kid is a LOAD.

What about one of the CHl guys from rookie camp? I remember people being impressed with one of them (Flinn?) and they ended up hanging around camp for a bit.

As far as NCAA guys go, maybe one of Jake Hildebrand, Michael Garteig, or Charlie Lindgren maybe? Those three jump out to me right away but not sure of others.

The Reign plays Charlotte again today. Game is at 3 p.m.

Last night's game coverage:

The team was missing Mersch, Kempe, Newbury and JST. ECHL call-up Derek Army acquitted himself well in the rush call-up.

Nice to meet you. Now get out on the ice. Game's starting.

I was really hoping Prokhorkin would have came over this year and impressed enough to snatch the 3rd line center job.

We could certainly use some offensive depth in the system right now at the AHL level. A whole puck of grinders and fighters this year does not make a repeat likely, even though they got off to a great start.

Charlotte now has a 10-game points streak and eight wins to show for it; Ontario has dropped five of seven and slipped from the top of the Western Conference. They haven't scored more than two goals in eight straight; they've scored just 12 goals in this stretch:

Reign Recap #28: Ontario Has No Finish

Mersch and Kempe is a big part of the Reign's offense gone. Hard to replace that.

How has Zykov looked so far this season? Points aren't really there yet, but do you see him progressing well?

Small sample size (two games), but he didn't really draw my eye in a positive OR a negative way in the games down here in San Diego so far.

Justin Auger had 3 points last night, and he has significantly more production than either Zykov or Brodzynski.

This kid has come such a long way over the last two years. In particular his skating has improved. He also really knows how to go to the net, which generates chances. He doesn't project farther than a 4th liner, but could he challenge Jordan Nolan? Maybe next fall?

He still has a long way to go.

Looking at the production alone is deceiving.

I like Auger, and have been impressed with him, but he still has a long way to go. Most of the goals he scores, probably four or five on the year, are trash goals. He gets in the right spots which is excellent, but as far as asserting himself, CREATING the goal, and pressing the middle like a power forward, he can hang on the perimeter too much. Last night he was pressing the middle, stepping into higher scoring areas, and firing it. I think everyone, including Stots, has mentioned they want to see him continue to do that. Game to game it can be spotty.

Zyks is a little different. He is very hit or miss, but when he is hit he is an absolute machine. He can stick handle in a phone both, beat defenders one on one, possess the hell out of the puck, and cycle very well. Problem is he often tries too hard which can lead to some mistakes in the O-zone and on the transition. His production is disappointing, but you have to remember that the Reign are a very thin offensive group. Zykov is usually playing wing with Crescenzi at C and Jordan Samuels-Thomas on the other side. It is not a firepower driven team outside of Dowd/Brodzy/Kempe. Zykov does a lot of work for that line, and they are usually good when he is good. However, his relentless puck hounding rarely gets rewarded with production.

Finally, Brodzinski. The more and more I watch the more I like his game. He too can be a bit too perimeter, like Auger, but man does this guy have a rifle of a shot. Such a veiled release on the wrister that when he starts firing more regularly he WILL beat goalies. I think he models his game too much on a power forward's game right now though (Has even described himself as one). He opts to drive the net rather than find seams in the slot or out high. He can beat goalies from out high but gets caught in the mindset of grinding it out. He is also really really good on the transition. Probably the best winger on the team in transitioning out of the zone. That may have a lot to do with Dowd being such a good C though. Guy is always available to his wings. I think once Brodzy starts firing more he is going to be solid goal scorer. Has to find that area in the ice though on a nightly basis where he can grip it and rip it.

Anyways, those are my three "Reports" on those guys as I see it.

Maybe of some interest to some of you, wrote a report on the offensive struggles of the Reign about a week ago.

Good post Jason. Auger is my whipping boy at many a game. He is so inconsistent, it's maddening. Whether his game will ever transition to the NHL is a big question mark. I just don't think he is quick enough overall. His straight ahead skating has improved a lot, but I think he would be out of his league in the NHL. We will see. I'm sure a lot of people are in love with his size, but he doesn't use it effectively and he is not a physical player.

Zykov, another Russian that HF Boards get hyped up about, only to be disappointed. Great skater, pretty good player, but until he learns he can't do it all by himself, he will not be a good pro. Still like his potential, he is learning. Still needs this season and probably next in the AHL to see if he is the real deal or not.

Brodzinski has grown on me by leaps and bounds. I think he has an NHL release, and he is solid in his offensive game. Last night he and Dowd made a mistake on coverage after Dowd wiped out momentarily, leading to the game tying goal. I'm pretty high on Brods.

What would a Kings-Stars playoff series look like? Ontario and Texas gave us a preview last night:

Reign Recap #29: Ontario Over Slump?

And to add to Jason's excellent scouting reports, both Brodzinski and Zykov are rookies, whereas Auger is a second-year.

Why is Sabourin not given a chance? Rookie year 12 goals 14 assists 26 points played on all 4 lines and excelled, since Stothers took over no ice for you,as in the soup nazi on Seinfeld.I don't get it no pp no pk not even a bone.....I think and hope he's given a chance.:)

I'm gonna agree with Strothers on this one. Sabourin is a career 3rd and 4th line AHL'er. I don't see any other likely outcome for him.

That's ok, Sabourin has been told by everyone that he'll never make it in minor hockey AAA,Tier 2 Jr.A OHL.AHL? I guess he'll just have to prove himself again.Too bad Stothers never gave Sabby a chance buried him last season after 7 games and 5 points playing with Dowd and Vander Guilick, then healthy scratch the whole playoffs.not a game, I though Stothers would at least give him a chance? Stothers was himself a proud AHL goon and obviously thinks the same thing about Sabby, how else can you explain his non playing time under Stothers? We know he can play, why else would LA sign him to a 3 year entry level contract? But I guess the LA organization gives away ELC to anyone right?
