Kitsyn is leading his team in goals and +/- .............

AIUI, Kubilik's season has ended with him leading the Czech lead in goals and points. Bring him to Ontario!!!

Would love that, couldn't hurt...but I seem to recall reading from someone that the org has no plans to keep him around? Will try to dig it up

LoVerde is 26 years old, under 6'0'', and not particularly gifted offensively. He is a steady guy at AHL level but not particularly good at anything. He does not have any NHL future in front of him.

I dunno, I like the Bodnarchuk comparison. I could see someone giving him a cup of coffee like Bods to see if he can be Mike Weaver or something but certainly agree that most organizations will look at all the details you listed and deem him a tweener. I guess I'm saying "I agree" he's low-potential but I think he'll get a shot. Every time I watch him he just looks so...dialed in and focused, like bored with the AHL, heh. Mostly just so solid but unspectacular.

Probably one of the most visibly in shape players as well. You can tell the guy takes his fitness seriously

I see that Yann Sauve is playing for Manchester. 2nd round pick in 2008. Do you think he'd be an option in Ontario if injuries persist? Haven't seen him play for years, still young(esh) 26 next month.

He is actually property of the Portland Pirates of the AHL and on loan with Manchester. If he is called up to the AHL it would have to be with them.

Not related but still interesting to the loan-loanee scenario, Derek Army is signed with the Wheeling Nailers, but has had loan stints with both Portland and Ontario this year in the AHL. In that instance, since he is contracted to Wheeling, he can go where he pleases. Sauve is on loan to Manchester, presumably because it is close to Portland, but can only play in the AHL for Portland (Unless traded for).

Dowd wins it, 28 seconds into OT.

The thought of Dowd centering the Kings' 4th line next season
makes me smile.

Maybe the Kings should bring up Dowd for a spell and send down Shore to re-boot for a month or so?

Nice comeback win by the Reign.

Dowd got away with one before he got the GWG. Was backchecking a potential 2 on 1 and looked like he nicked the face/face shield Young. The puck gets away from Young, LoVerde steps in, takes the puck the other away, gives it to Dowd, who buries it high-glove.

For those that have the AHL Live package, take a listen to the Barracuda (the away team) call of the GWG. Talk about a meltdown.

Edit: the AHL only seems to archive the home radio call (not seeing an option to switch radio broadcast during the archived version like during the live version) so it doesn't look like you can listen to it from the AHL site.

I saw it live, Young was irate for 2 minutes after Dowd scored and all the players were leaving the ice. It was right in front of the ref on the rush, was really surprised that the ref did not blow it down.
Reign played well, nice to see them come back from being down the whole game.

Same, don't necessarily blame him for being upset, but yeah, what a meltdown. Play on, you know?

Fun game to be at.

Good god, Kempe is something else. Stothers apparently had some words about him and I can't say I disagree--you see these flashes of this unstoppable, Kopitar-like talent, and then he just kinda...disappears for stretches. Not bad, just not special. Well, coach said it better than me, from reign insider:

"Stothers, on Kempe needing to step up his game:

I want him to be a little bit more of a presence. I didn’t have issues with his penalty at all. I had other issues with his game tonight. I want this guy to be the dominant player that he can be. That dominant player that I see every day in practice. I want to see that in a game. World Junior hangover’s over as far as I’m concerned. It’s now time to start proving that you’re a legitimate NHL prospect and be the best player on the ice, which he’s quite capable of being. And, you saw that play he made to Backs, he shouldn’t be waiting until the final minutes of the third period to see that out of him. [Reporter: He said it would take about 4-5 games to knock some of the bad habits from the World Juniors out, do you think he’s gotten that out of his game?] We’ll see tomorrow because I still think there’s a lot more. So, he’s going to figure it out or he’s going to have a black cloud following him around every day and I’m the black cloud. [Reporter: Would you care to discuss what issues you have with his game?] I want him to be the dominant player that he needs to be. Clearly his skill set is off the charts. And when you watch him every day you see what he can do and then it doesn’t always appear during the games or it doesn’t appear consistently. That’s what’s going to prevent him from being in the NHL. You’ve got to do it every game. Anybody can do it in practice. There was a couple practices I even looked pretty good. It’s the games. Bring it to the games. Be a difference maker. Be a guy that everybody’s talking about when they leave the building. "

No idea what they were so mad about. Seemed fairly clear that the Barracuda player lost control entering the blue line, started to lose his balance and dove to try and poke check the puck deep into the zone so it wouldn't turn around on a counter.

Dowd had one hand on his stick and his stick gets Young in the visor (Dowd is about at the dot outside the offensive zone when this happens). The puck had already started to get away from Young at that point but it was a pretty clear penalty and the Monarchs score right after that.

I was listening to the Reign radio guy, and he doesn't bother to mention the missed high stick so I switched to the Barracuda audio and he was just tearing into the officials for 2 minutes.

I do remember an emphatic "BRUTAL!" and "Embarrassing!," that a barracuda was giving it to the official, that the officials were trying to hide, and that the league office should look into it (don't remember the exact words used but that was the general gist of it).

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but why do California teams have lesser games played than non Cali teams? Texas Stars have played 45 games with Stockton Heat having only played 35. Heck, the Reign only played 37.

Travel. The Pacific teams are actually playing less games as a whole than the rest of the league.

The California teams will only play 68 games during the regular season. The rest of the league will play 76. That's why when you go AHL standings this year they are sorted by points percentage, not points. That's what will decide playoff seeds.

Thanks fellas. I wonder when NHL will adopt this ruling...:sarcasm:

Just wanted to say a belated welcome back to CNS, who contributed a report on last weekend's games in San Jose. I always enjoy his work.

AHL: Reign Drop Barracuda 2-1 In MacDermid’s Return

“He is what he is. He is going to be a marked man with that suspension. That’s going to hang over his head, probably forever. So, he can’t be reckless, but, he still has to be a presence, and that’s a fine line. It was a fine line even before he got suspended,†said coach Mike Stothers on MacDermid. “It’s going to take some time. I think, with him, he’s kind of anxious to get back in the lineup and get playing again. He wants to make his presence felt.

Though playing limited minutes, Joel Lowry also found a way to make an impact on the game...

Not that Im making excuses for guys who get suspended or making them victims or anything, but when you don't mean to hurt someone, it DOES have to get in your head...reminds me of when Brown hurt his friend Pominville a bit. Tough if your whole game is built on playing hard line that too. MacDermid is hard nosed.

I am going to go in the opposite direction of the Mayor write up here.

Having watched MacDermid (And really having little expectation for him coming into this year to be quite honest), I think it is somewhat admirable that he plays the game the way he does without routinely crossing it. He is very physical, intimidating, in your face, and he does toe a line...but as far as going OVER the line...the Bailey hit is really the only thing he has done this year that has crossed the line. Granted, it was an exceptionally nasty hit. There is also the Domi hit from last year, but again we are taking two incidents in about 225 some odd games of note (4 seasons).

Mind you, at least in regards to the Domi hit, MacDermid is 6'5" so he is really going to have a battle with his own body in keeping elbows tucked in and what not when he does hit people. Especially smaller players.

I'm not excusing him for some of the plays he makes or penalties he takes, but I feel like that article kind of paints a primarily negative picture. He isn't that bad defensively, he's huge, and he has a sort of heavy hitting almost Scott Stevens/Chris Pronger throwback style of play. Heck, I don't think he was on too many people's radars this season and he has managed to come in and win a regular starting job over guys like Ebert, Leslie, and Lintuniemi to start the year, in his rookie season no less.

There is something to him here. He is probably going to have a few more hits where people raise eyebrows at it and wonder if there was a dirty intent or something, but I'm pretty sure he just plays a really aggressive on the edge style game that the Kings don't want him to pull too far away from to be honest.

Haven't seen Kris Newberry's name on a boxscore in a while.

He must be re-injured, right?

I musta' missed the report.

Anybody know?

Injured. mid-body injury, considered week to week. Happened...oh I don't know maybe three weeks ago? A month?
