What's impressive is that almost all of us were disappointed when Mark Morris left because he did so well with Toffoli and Pearson and Vey. For Stothers to take over and propel the Monarchs to Calder Cup champions with a lesser talented team is more than what we could've asked for.

Stothers may be The Kings most talented employee in Ontario, even more than the players.

Any updates on Kempes play?

Most talk is that everyone loves his potential. NHL level skating already. Pretty good offensive skillset. He isn't overly physical but there is some chippiness-swagger to his game. Can be a bit careless with the puck at times. Not like, poor decisions and reads per se, just...maybe lackadaisical or over-confident on plays. Trying too difficult of passes or 1v1 moves. These are correctable things.

Altogether very impressive skill set. I'd still say we are a year and a half out, maybe two (If they really want to incubate him a lot), from seeing him jump in the NHL.

Excellent assessment Jason. I agree, and wouldn't be surprised if he gets a peak next season depending on how the roster shakes out. 1 1/2 years from now is his more likely ETA when he may make the roster, when he is 21. Consistent effort (being a pro) comes to mind.

I'm not in Ontario tonight - are those first-period SOG for real? 15-4? Wow - and Kempe with the PP goal...

Reign win it 1-0 over San Jose! Mersch with the lone goal. Budaj with his 3rd straight shutout. (8th of the season).

Incredible year for Budaj! It's crazy to think that Budaj wouldn't have gotten in half the games if Bartosak hadn't slept through don't beat your girlfriend 101 during training camp.

You got feel for Michael Houser though. He's played 1 game this year. I don't think he even has a relielf appearance.

Real glad for Budaj, but that Bartosak incident is still a kick to the teeth to me. That guy had absolutely fantastic potential till he screwed up his career. Really sucks. Unfortunately Budaj's season means little to nothing for the Kings longterm like a season like this from Bartosak would have meant.

Yea bit of a strange game tonight.

Reign dominated for two periods in the possession part of it. San Jose could barely get up the ice. Couldn't connect on outlets. Quite a bit of special teams also. Reign offense really wasn't as threatening as shots would indicate. Most from low-scoring areas. Had traffic in front but Dell was super solid for the Barracuda.

Third the script flipped. They were getting beasted in shots like, 24-5 or some garbage...didn't muster a single even strength shot in the second. Put up 12 in the third. Reign sat back a little bit and San Jose started consistently throwing four men into the attack with no response from Reign. Budes came up with a couple of dandy saves to keep it 1-0. Goaltending battle straight up, fun watch though if not a bit sloggish in the 2nd.

From a pure human standpoint, this has been huge for Budaj after the year he had last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a sniff at a tandem start job somewhere next year because of how well he has played this year. Reign MVP.

I agree. I would like to see him domanite and put up big numbers like Toffoli and Mersch. If he can do that then I definetly think he's ready. Fans should keep in mind he's only 19. So two years in Ontario is nothing to be worried about. I feel confident he'll be an NHL player and a good one. As I've said before, he reminds me bit of Jeff Carter.

Yeah Kempe is SUPER young. The raw skills are incredible though. If the guy gets man-strength in that frame he could be Landeskog.
