I was at Sunday's game in Ontario.
For what it's worth, a few thoughts/observations.

--Seldom do you see a team take so many penalties and still win the game.
--The 1st interval in the game where the Reign didn't get a penalty for at least 5 or 6 minutes (3rd period), the team got a nice offensive flow going and scored their 1st goal.
--Gravel went down hard with about 3 1/2 minutes left in the 2nd, and didn't return until the 3rd. For much of the last period, he seemed to see limited icetime, but seemed on an even keel by the last 1/2 of the 3rd period.
--Dowd is high-energy, all-effort, is right on the play down the middle, and made some nice defensive and PK plays, but was mostly unable to break out much offensively, at least this game. I still like the thought of him on the Kings' 4th line next season, though, as may possibly happen.
--Zykov made a nice turnaround (offense-to-defense) play on a rush when the puck suddenly turned over to the other team on an intercepted pass---He just turned his body around, and keeping his forward motion, met the other team's sudden rush with his body effectively blocking the oncoming play, and helping separate the opposing players from the puck on a potentially dangerous counterattack.
--Team is well-coached, on D and breakouts, especially.
--Auger seemed to be working hard to make up for the loss of presence around the net with the absence of Kempe/Mersch. Looked good at times.
--This team sure could use Jordan Weal.
--We arrived too late to get our oven-mitts (about 5 minutes B4 game--How cheap is 'dat?:shakehead),
but I'll take the win over a mitt any time.:handclap:

--Nearby Luxe Buffet Restaurant
made a great after-dinner celebration spot.
I highly recommend this place if you go to an early game (3 PM).
The video below is accurate, I assure you, except it leaves out stuff like the Dim Sum area,
the variety of soups, salad bar sections with lots of fruit, a whole row of Chinese Classic dishes, including seafood,
plus a chocolate fountain for dipping stuff like strawberries (or cookies:D) into.

We figured it was good luck for the Reign if you go to Luxe afterwards (we"ve never been before a game).
I know that sounds backwards, but both times we went to Luxe after the games, the Reign got points or won.
The 1 time we didn't go to Luxe, the team lost.
There's your evidence.:sarcasm:

And for the sake of completeness, here are weekend postgame quotes not found elsewhere. Here, Bissonnette talks Teddy Bear Toss, Dowd teaches Brodzinski, and Stothers doesn't want to talk San Diego. Plus, a Teddy Bear Toss GIF!

Reign Weekend Postgame Quotes: Bissonnette, Dowd

MacDermid, on whether or not Bogdan Yakimov "sold" being boarded:

He looked like he was shot. That was the one penalty I had serious issue with. The others, well, we deserved most of them.

Auger with a goal that Khudobin wants back, to tie it up after Kerdiles knocked in a rebound on the PP for the initial Gulls lead. Gulls PP was pretty amazing, the one time it's been out so far.

MacDermid delivers a headshot to Bailey, who leaves the ice woozy with blood pouring from his mouth. Match penalty, and a deserved suspension certainly coming.

Not the best camera angle there, but where was the puck in relation to the Gulls player?

Was it an elbow, shoulder? Looked nasty for sure, but couldn't tell if the primary contact that hurt the Gulls player or his head smacking the ice that did the damage.

Looked like all shoulder to me, I think the puck was just inside the blueline which could easily be a cold shoulder/interference situation. Dirty hit by modern standards from what I see.

Matt Mistele and Mike Amadio look to be having good OHL seasons. Are they both AHL available for the Reign next year ?

Mistele seems to have taken to being put on a better team and seems to be one of the main men there - 13 points in 8 games and 7 goals amongst them
29 points in 27 Games overall

Matt Mistele Sarnia Sting (total)
27 15 14 29
Oshawa Generals 19 8 8 16 16
Sarnia Sting 8 7 6 13 9

Amadio seems to be good on the PK and is a captain
8th overall in points in the league with 47 points in 32 games
20 goals scored so near the top there also
what impresses me is that he is standing out in his team stat wise - nobody close points wise - some of the other top 10's play for teams where a few players have high points totals
32 20 27 47

Easily an Interference call as Bailey had chipped the puck into the zone and watching a few times it isn't anywhere near the two players involved. (you can see an Ontario player turn to go for the puck in the corner just before the hit.) Also looks like there is a pretty clear follow through with the elbow but hard to tell if it was the elbow or shoulder that hit Bailey's head.

Where do you see elbow on the follow thru? His elbow was completely down.

I got a good frame freeze at the moment of impact. He didn't hit his head at all (right in the chest) but with severe whiplash to the head. No elbow either. Still, that is probably big time interference.

The more I look at it, Bailey must have touched the puck right as he was getting clobbered. That changes everything, I think its a clean hit. Maybe charging if they want to nail him with something.

Dreger says the AHL has Suspended Kurtis MacDermid for 12 games(!).
It's terrible how severe the injury to Bailey is, but I have hard time even seeing where the head contact came from. Possibly from contact with the ice?

It looks like he catches him on the shoulder, but I suppose it's not out of the question to think a guy the size of MacDermid caught his head too.

Hope Bailey heals up well.

I think it had to be the ice, nonetheless, the leagues now base their punishment on the extent of the injury or how it looks at first glance.
