Duchene is the kind of guy that would charter his own plane just to come the World's.
I think so too.

The only star player (well, besides Thornton, Marleau, E.Staal, and Spezza :naughty:) who I am not sure about, is Giroux. But I don't know why Couture or Johansen wouldn't go if healthy. I don't know about Nugent-Hopkis, so I didn't include him in this imo possible roster of forwards:

Benn - Giroux - Seguin
Hall - Johansen - Eberle
Couture - Duchene - Stone
O'Reilly - Turris - Toffoli
J.Staal/Eakin

could possibly make the team: Skinner, Jenner, Couturier

Benn-Giroux-Seguin
Duchene-O'Reilly-Johansen
Hall-Couture-Eberle
Toffoli-Couturier-Turris
Skinner(Mcdavid if eliminated)

Burns-Doughty
Murray-Barrie
Rielly-Ekblad

Mason
Bernier

not sure what other d might go. maybe phaneuf, ceci

I hope that Nill can bring Seguin and Benn along. I wouldn't be surprised to see him bring along a few marginal players from Dallas (Daley and Eakin possibly) but that's fine provided he brings Dallas' stars. George McPhee is an assistant, but there isn't anybody tremendously interesting who would be available for Canada if Washington is eliminated early. Pat Verbeek is involved too, which surprises me since he is an assistant general manager with Tampa Bay and their season is still going strong.

Mason said he won't go cause he needs to rehab his knee. i also don't think Bernier will go .

Well look who came back off the IR yesterday... our injury prone D-man Murray. Did he survive the entire game without incurring another injury or tweaking an already existing ailment? 2 games remaining for CBJ, does he make it the end of the season unscathed? Not that it matters, he's played too few games this year to be in consideration for the WHC anyway imo. but you never know what Hockey Canada is thinking. I checked out his game log on TSN. I just had to shake my head at how injury prone this guy is.

Nill had an interview with the Edmonton Sun and it sounds like he believes that all three of the Oilers forwards are good to go. He said that he spoke with McDavid's agent about him participating if Erie is eliminated. Overall he sounds optimistic, mainly because Prague is such a nice destination and the (atrocious) World Cup is relatively close.

Things are shaping up for Canada to have a really good roster this year. I hope we can avoid having to bring marginal players like they've had to in the past. Last year's roster was awful, but it was an Olympic year so I suppose that's expected.

True hopefully this year better players accept and the fact nill said they want to have mostly players 26 and under there should be tons of skilled players.

Has it been confirmed that Seguin is going? I think he'd probably take some time off, as his knee isn't back at 100% yet.

Benn's probably a lock, though, he's still furious about missing the playoffs and probably wants to win something.

Reading between the lines of what Nill said on the radio I think both will be going.

no one has been confirmed to be going yet.

and meanwhile getting back on topic and much more important for the real fans, with L.A. out, a J. Benn J. Carter T. Sequin line could be enticing. Although I think all L.A. players are more inclined to take the full summer off after the 3 year run. They have logged a lot of mileage in those 3 years.

I agree that Carter and Doughty are very likely to take a pass, particularly after some long playoff runs. I wouldn't be surprised to see a player like Muzzin accept an invite as he is still young and has no experience with Canada.

If Boston misses the playoffs I hope that Marchand is invited. Loads of people dislike him, but he's a very good player year after year and his on ice play is pretty well suited to international hockey. It also doesn't hurt that he's scaled back his antics.

I'd be on board with Marchand, it would be nice seeing a player play with a little jam for the first time in 5 years and pissing off a few of the opposition players. He played a great WJC in 08. Maybe he'll convince Bergeron to play. but unlikely.

I agree, and really Canada has had a lot of success with taking a player who can agitate the opposition. The important thing is knowing when not to go over the line, and Marchand can handle that.

Assuming we use Today's standings

LW C RW
Benn Seguin Duchane
Hall Giroux Tiffoli
RNH Bergeron Eberle
Marchand Couture O`Rilley

D D
Burns Doughty
Rilley Ekblad
Vlasic Barrie

G
Luongo
Jones
Reimer

Its possible this team could potentially Medal, for the love of God Doughty please play its only 2 weeks.

Please let this happen!

Even guys like Lucic, Hamilton, Smith are players who can find spots on the team. Lucic might be a little too slow for the big ice though.

I think that team would win a gold. look at the third line (Bergeron, Eberle) or the fourth one (Couture, Marchand), and Luongo in net. I would be as sure as I was before the World Juniors this year.

Nill said that they got pretty good responses from the players so far. He also says that in defence, he's looking for puck-movers, mobile defensemen who can skate.

They had better not play Eberle on the 3rd line again. The guy is built for the open ice.

Give him a center like Giroux or Seguin and they would dominate the opposition.

I do wonder if Carter and Doughty care about the IIHF's Triple Gold Club? They need the World Gold to get in.

I have heard rumours that Kings management is discouraging players from playing in this tournament. But with the limited work he saw all season, I think Martin Jones will be a shoo-in to both be invited and go. It will be really strange if Scrivens, Bernier and Jones are Canada's goalies considering they are all products of the Kings' system.

Should be a good tournament with a powerhouse team like LA in the mix for rosters.

Hamilton has been hurt for a while now. Broken ribs.

I've never heard of a Canadian player going because they were motivated by the IIHF's shameless/idiotic "triple gold club" but who knows. If Carter or Doughty was motivated by that it would be a positive.
