It looks like Canada is going to have a scary team. If they don't win with it, they won't win ever. Will be interesting to compare top NHLers vs top KHLers on Russian NT.

And I think it's hard to believe they will find a place for McJesus. He's maybe the next all time best, but right now he isn't better than all those guys.

Terry Jones - Art Ross Trophy winner (Benn), likely Calder winner (Ekblad), likely Norris winner (Doughty) may all play for Canada at World Championships.

DOUGHTY might play.

Holy crap this team is going to be loaded like crazy especially if they get one or all of Carter, Mackinnon, Benn to commit.

***UPDATE***

Benn said in a post-game interview tonight that he'd accept if he got invited.

Hall - Giroux - Seguin
RNH - Duchene - Eberle
Spezza - Benn

Locked. And Loaded. Wonder if Bergeron or Marchand have been issued an invite.

If benn goes him and seguin would play together for sure. Could be a stars line, Oilers line and long-shot avs line(don't think mackinnon goes because of injury)

Benn-Spezza-Seguin
O'Reilly-Duchene-Giroux
Hall-RNH-Eberle

This year's World's counts for 2018 Olympic seedings. Great timing!

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that it is the 2nd to last WHC before Olympics that was the seeding qualifier, making next year (2016 Moscow) the tournament whereby Olympic seeding will be determined.

Encouraged to hear a few of these names as being likely. That's great and all, but names alone don't win tournaments. If Hockey Canada gives it the same halfass preparation approach as they did last year, the result will ultimately be the same. I hope the team assembles in Toronto and holds a mini (4-5 day camp).

Still appears to be a gaping hole in net. Other than Bernier considering it, has there been any other word of invites to goalies?

Nothing new really, but Drew Doughty was interviewed by the Finnish media: http://www.mtv.fi/sport/jaakiekko/n...ekstia-mm-kisoista-aion-ottaa-vapaata/4988434

- It's individualized when each has to return to the gym. I will take time off and vacation: have fun and wind down.

- I think we're all going to do so. I won't even think about hockey until I return to Los Angeles, which would be someday in September.

In other words, Doughty, perhaps the best defenseman in the NHL will not be seen representing his native Canada in the World Championship tournament starting on May Day.

When asked about the possibility of being called up for the tournament, Doughty seemed like he couldn't believe his ears.

- I'm not sure... no one has contacted me yet, he said, clearly uneasy.

- The decision has to be made at some point. If I'll be asked, I don't really know. We'll see.

You could sense of the Canadian's body language that the thought of WHC hockey hasn't even crossed his mind.

Mister Doughty, how much do you respect the World Championship as a tournament?

- I wouldn't say that it's even nearly as prestigious as Stanley Cup or the Olympics. That's for sure, said the two-time Stanley Cup and Olympic champion without doubting for a moment.

- Of course, it's an honor to represent your country and perhaps win the world championship but it's not even comparable to the Stanley Cup or the Olympics.

That's hilarious. Most Canadians feel the same. The only thing I'm worried about Doughty is, if he maintains this same off-season approach to training, we could very well see a precipitous decline in his level of play as he approaches his late 20s.

Sounds like Jamie Benn is out for World Championships. Tyler Ennis is in.
Cody Eakin also going to play for Team Canada.

It looks like Ryan Johansen and Logan Couture said NO to WC
that's interesting if true, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Bergeron/Carter/Marchand/Toffoli said yes, so what the hell.

I mean, if it's true and we get players like Spezza, Giroux, Seguin, Duchene, Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins...then add someone like O'Reilly, Toffoli, maybe Monahan, and Eakin and Marchand for the checking-line minutes, maybe Bergeron, and we are all good and set.

Why is Benn out if he said in a post-game interview last night that he'd accept if he was invited? Was he not invited (I highly doubt that)?

This is why this tournament is worthless. Doughty not going, Benn probably not going and it goes on and on. Canadian players don't give a rats ass about this thing. Team looks a lot better though from previous years. Who's going to be in net? Bernier I doubt goes. I hope we can win this thing then we'll hold every title.

-Olympic Champs
-World Cup champs
-WJHC champs
-*World Champs* (Redundant)

I really hope Benn, Couture, and Johansen get the same amount of grief as the Oil kids got for not going...

But something tells me they won't.

Also..I get that Nill is running the team but there are a lot of Dallas Stars on this team so far.

No tournament is "worth" anything. They're all for fun and to win or lose really means nothing at all. If you want to watch some fun hockey then watch it, if not don't come in and constantly complain about the "worth" or "validity" of men chasing a chunk of rubber around some ice.

Pretty good chance Oreilly and Barrie get the invite as well I'd say, wouldn't be surprised if Mackinnon didn't though, considering how stacked the Top 6 already is. ROR would be great on the 3rd line LW spot with Spezza.

Hall - Giroux - Seguin
RNH - Duchene - Eberle
ROR - Spezza - Benn?

Players confirmed for Team Canada at WC so far...Hall, Eberle, RNH, Seguin, Spezza, Ekblad, Mike Smith, Giroux, Duchene @Sportsnet

Ridiculous Forward group. Defense is still skeptical though. Ekblad, probably Barrie but after that it gets a lot tougher to figure out.

Rielly deserves to go

maybe he hasn't made his decision yet. some other players have been invited likely but maybe haven't said yes or no yet.

I understand Benn not going, but Johansen too. Really?

We need quality defensemen back there. Without puck-moving defensemen, the forwards can only do so much.

I don't get the Benn thing. If he said he would go if asked, it's quite nonsense to think that he was asked but said no. I think he's going to go.

Gotta wonder if Hamilton will go..

We are seeing a ton of forwards accept but we only have Ekblad on D so far.

Canada's D and goaltending will be suspect unless we get some bigger names.

You know they will be waiting on the Pens Rangers series, like others the expectation of the Rangers winning that series frees up a certain player who I am sure they want to ask.

So they obviously will not commit to a full roster right now.

If Benn says no, so be it,Sid might still come along knowing he won't have many opportunities like this to play at the worlds.

I bought tickets for Canada-Latvia (opening game) and Canada-Sweden. Canadian squad looks very promising so far, I am very excited to see all these players live. :handclap::handclap:
