A very good effort against Canada. This team should beat Germany unless that happens to be the one in five where it doesn't. After that things get a bit sketchy but if the stars align medal is a possibility.

it wasn't bad game, but this team is lacking something.. the spirit just isn't there. highly doubt about medal this time.

Kapanen is a perimeter player looking unfit for NA rinks, Puljujarvi looked good in the third. Rantanen had flashes and Mustonen had a good game, the rest of the team was really quiet.

^ Mustonen was just horrible, 2nd goal was completely his fault and I think he was out thete on every Canada goal.

It's a shame we can't tank for a 1st overall pick. :sarcasm:

In all seriousness, this team can't beat Germany. PP sucks, PK sucks, defense sucks, scoring sucks. I can't understand why the special teams are that bad, have they even practiced those? It seems to me that Jortikka is absolutely clueless behind that bench.

Umm...

Yeah. Can we please get Kivi back?

Some rumours have Kivi heading to Turku next season but even as a TPS fan I'd be happy to see him with the WJC team...there's probably no saving the TPS **** show.

Some random thoughts:
-Kapanen did look miles better
-I'm really liking how Lehkonen is playing, just relentlessly chasing the puck and winning board battles despite not being the biggest guy
-PP has no imagination at all, the main idea is a shot from the blue line or circle, yet there's not often anyone quick enough and/or in position for rebounds
-Rantanen was fairly invisible tonight, disappointing
-Honka is one of the only players who gets the puck to the offensive zone against the tough teams FIN faced, but did also hold on the puck too long at times and loses the puck. His shot needs work. What I do find interesting is his sometimes emerging chippiness, trying to ruffle key players feathers (shoving Eichel, whatever that episode with Domi was). He's easily one of the most high profile players we have, the D is very dependant on him but there's still room for improvement
-I'm going to refrain from commenting Puljujärvi for the most part. No doubt he is one of the most talented players we have, but you also see the mistakes he makes. However, I'm not going to criticize a 16-yo for D lapses or lack of finishing. I hope the talk won't end up being people pointing the finger at him for a lack of finishing. The guy is *16*, different players should be carrying the team
-Lintuniemi has not been particularly good, disappointing considering his draft position

EDIT: I guess one depressing thought I did have is that these players are supposed to represent the new emerging generation of individually-developed, offensive-minded players and here we are again, scoring one goal a game. Maybe next year with one more year of development for many players that will pick up...

The team has very good wingers, but the center and defense just can't compete. There isn't someone who can take the puck and set the pace of the game. Had the team a player like Barkov it could build at least one very solid line that could be a threat on every shift.

Finland hockey fan, you have a great kid in Puljujarvi, Take care of him. He makes things happens everytime he is on the ice.

Weird tournament thus far. Finland has looked good and sometimes even dominant yet have scored only three goals. These players are not this bad at finishing, they just have a mental block now. I am not yet ready to abandon hope.

It's going to feel great to beat Sweden when we've won only 1 game and they've sweeped their group.

Yeah, there is still a small chance, but it requires some kickass finishing. It's like the team is cursed in front of the net.

I just hope that this team can score more than 1 goal against germany :)

I guess it's now husso till the end. Saros wasn't bad, but husso has been more convincing thus far. The PP still looks horrible. It looks like they only want to take bad shots far away from the net. Canadas PP was completely different, they attacked towards the net.

To call Husso "more convincing" after that single good showing vs. USA is bit of an embellishment. It went pretty much as I predicted earlier. Saros was by no means worse than Husso but was dealt the worse matchup out of the two tough opponents and got lit up largely by no fault of his own.

Still, that's about as far as I'm going to go defending him. It was always about very small margins to determine the one on top, and suppose there was no way to completely eliminate random chance from this equation. Be as it may, the net belongs to Husso now.

While it may be true that Saros got dealt the worse hand with the starts, he still had his opportunity to take the job. The team didn't help him in the Slovaks game, but he didn't have his best game either. Husso made some key saves in that US game, and I guess the mental situation is a lot easier for Husso, as Saros had all the pressure on him after that US game.

Anyways goaltending is not the issue in this tournament. It's hard to win games 1-0 :D

Ive just watched a couple of periods vs Canada but as far as that goes Finland looks really good. Not sure how this team managed to lose vs Slovakia. This team is better than last years if it just can start scoring it is a dark horse for the gold.

Scoring, scoring and once again scoring + poor special team play. 5-on-5 play has been pretty solid.

FIN-SWE QF would be pretty sweet ;)

With a little bit moore luck in their scoring chanses this turney so far they might as well could have had 9 points.. I personaly think they was equally good as usa and even canada, they was clearly better then slovakia.. If they win against germany and is able to get their scoring going they will give sweden a verry tough game, And I wouldnt be surprised if they win eighter.

I actually think its possible that all 4 teams in finlands group might go to semi finals, wild toughts maybe....

Everything's possible of course, but it's still hard to see Slovakia beat whoever they end up drawing from the other side.

Fantastic game of hockey, all three Finland games have been very entertaining!

Now beat the Germans so I can cheer for you against the Swedes.

Just roll three lines and use the fourth to give them a breather.

Lehkonen-Hintz-Puljujarvi
Aho-Kalpudas-Rantanen
Vahatalo-Rauhala-Ojamaki

Ikonen-Mustonen-Kapanen - use sparingly

If Kapanen carries himself through this tournament in similar fashion like he did in the previous WJHC, I don't think he'll be thought so highly of considering other national tournaments in the future. Especially when the NT has other options in Armia, Pulkkinen and Puljujärvi to choose from for scoring (in the right wing).
