Saw Jortikka's interview on Urheiluruutu just moments ago, pretty much implied that the players mental state wasn't right for the game. Said "if they can't fix that, it'll be a pretty short tournament".

Really dont like that Jortikka is singeling him out of this "mental" problem. He is also a part of it. (But who am i to know whats happening in the locker room)

Good that the coaching staff is trying new things out. It seems like the size issue in the first line has not been adressed although I know that we are a smaller team so it's not possible for it to be perfect.

Still, as it now stands the first line is

Lehkonen(181 cm)-Mustonen(175 cm)-Ikonen (175 cm)

perhaps they could also try

Lehkonen-Mustonen-Rantanen (193 cm)
Kapanen-Hintz(187 cm)-Ikonen
Aho-Kalapudas-Puljujärvi (190 cm)
Vähätalo-Rauhala-Ojamäki

So all lines have some size to go against the Canadians. And yes, I realize it's not just a numbers game. (Heights from eliteprospects profiles)

This would mean that lefties (Rantanen & Lehkonen) and righties (Kapanen & Ikonen) would play in separate lines, so it's not that simple, although looks pretty good on paper. In fact I predicted that Kapanen and Ikonen will swap because it was the simplest move to do without blowing the second line entirely. We just have to hope that Kapanen doesn't hurt Hintz's and Rantanen's game.

Rantanen deserves power play time, so it's great to hear that he took over Kapanen in the first PP-unit. However, Rantanen's handedness is left and Kapanen is righty, so it changes the PP pretty much. I believe that Honka comes to the left side in the blue line with his right-handed shot, and Rantanen plays on the right side. Rantanen is capable of playing many different roles in the PP-unit, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he goes in front of the net and Lehkonen's spot changes to more puck-possessive role next to Honka. I'm okay with both, so it's interesting to see are they going to improve (has to).

Top line's weight Lehkonen (74kg) - Mustonen (75kg) - Ikonen (80 kg)

Canadas Top line Domi 178/88 - Reinhart 184/84 - Duclair 180/85

They're not even that much taller, but the weight difference is significant. Well lets just hope that our guys show some character and the Finnish SISU steps up. :) Hopefully the Kärpät trio gets more ice time

So it's pretty clear now that Jortikka really doesn't want to break the Kärppä-line.

I like the switch by Jortikka to try Ikonen in first line, but like it was already said, the size issue. I also like the decision to give Kapanen one more chance since it's not the game of death. If he keeps sucking 3rd time in a row just drop him out of the line-up for the Germany game.

Keeping Hintz and Rantanen together is a good decision although I believe Rantanen and also Puljujärvi would probably be effective in any lines.

You can clearly see in the PP the effect of the smaller rink, our guys is used to just carrying the puck in the offensive zone, it doesn't work very well in NA size rink, they need to just dump it in, and battle it back. And get ride of the 4 forwards on the PP, at least for the Canada game.

That link would indicate that it would be Rantanen who takes Kapanen's spot, not Ikonen. If so I think this solution would be a lot better, because Rantanen can definitely bring some important elements to the first line.
If you read more carefully, you'll notice that the reporter indicates both Ikonen and Rantanen in different paragraphs. One or the other statement is in error, but the question is which one.

Oh yes. Thats true, I must've read past that. Yeah so it will most likely be Ikonen on the first line :( .

Well the second line looks solid, hopefully Kapanen can get his game going.

I don't have a problem with Lehkonen-Mustonen-Ikonen line. Sure they are small but none of those guys is a liability defensively. That line worked well in U18's two years ago.

Kapanen at LW is interesting. Hopefully he can get some more shots on net from that side.

That midget 1st line is just asking trouble and suicidical against Canada. Jortikka is really a one funny relic and out to lunch there in Canada. LOL

They're responsible on defense, but it's the offense I'm worried about. The whole team has struggled with zone entries on the smaller ice a bit, and having such a small line really hurts their ability to dump and chase and thus further limits their options in that respect. They're pretty smart and quick players though, so maybe they can beat the bigger defenders in footraces and make some quick plays. At least I hope so.

Russia - Sweden > Russia
USA - Slovakia > Draw
Finland - Canada > Finland

I just had to put 10 Euro on that bet cuz it was 3700 times the money.. alltough I know it probably never ever will succseed, I just had to! Cuz its WJC and every think can ******* happend..

What can you do at this point? I'm not even confident that this team can beat Germany... Such an utter and complete failure in every possible respect. All they can do is stickhandle, and looks like it's all they want to do.

Can we have Kivi back next year please?

Ilvonen is so bad. How come Niku doesn't play instead?

And jesus, learn to shoot on goal guys.

They should improve:
-scoring
-pp
-pk
-defence
-defend yourself from roughing

Goaltending is adequate.

Him? He was talking about the whole team.

Predictable result against Canada. This team simply doesn't have the depth and quality at centre and defense as last year's team.

It's a shame we can't tank for a 1st overall pick. :sarcasm:

In all seriousness, this team can't beat Germany. PP sucks, PK sucks, defense sucks, scoring sucks. I can't understand why the special teams are that bad, have they even practiced those? It seems to me that Jortikka is absolutely clueless behind that bench.
