Darek Laxdal Wants to be on Coaching Staff

Darek Laxdal just announced on an Edmonton radio interview that he wants to be on the coaching staff for Team Canada at next years WJC... do you think he can make it? I think a MC + 2 WHL championships (and 3 appearances) justify him making it onto the staff, but I may be a bit of a homer here.

On the staff or be the head coach?

sorry, I never pay attention to thread titles.

Here's what I think the lineup will look like as we get closer to the draft we will most likely see how will make their NHL team and who wouldn't.

Dal Colle - Petan - Lazar
Domi - Horvat - McDavid
Duclair - Bennett - Ritchie/Fabbri
Klimchuk - McCann - Bleackley
Dickinson/Perlini/Ritchie/Fabbri/Ho-Sang/

Nurse - Morrissey
Morin - Bowey
Heatherington - Subban
Theodore/Sanheim/Bigras/Thrower

Fucale
Comrie
Jarry

The defense looks weak, I tried to put a LH-RH combo but the RH is weak. I hope Ekblad can make this team, it'll make the a big difference.

Not that it matters much, but MacInnis is American (if you're talking about Ryan).

Domi is a long shot based on Memorial cup play

I wouldn't rule Barzal out if he has a strong showing this fall. Very impressed when I watched this kid.

Ya, I have serious questions about both Domi and Horvat. At this point, if they are both back in junior next year, they better be outstanding from the start of the season right up to December camp, otherwise, I'd leave both of those players at home.

How good is the 2015 group compared to your older groups? Better? Worse?

Thanks in advance, guys.

The 1995 birth year for Canada is the best in several years...I would argue even more talented and with overall better depth than the 1985 group. Most will agree it's the best group of players in 5 years at least.

Granted players like Mackinnon, Drouin, Ekblad, Reinhart and Nurse + a few others may not be in MTL/TOR come Christmas time...but there we'll find out just how much depth we have in this age group. None of them, except for Reinhart were at the U18 in Sochi, but we managed to pull out gold there...so I have high expectations that Canada gets back to the gold medal game this time around.

I have to agree with Mr.Writer. It's definitely three times better than the last year's group and it could be - and should be - one of the best teams since 2005, maybe the best. And actually some would even say it's better overall group than the one in 2005, as Mr. Witer said.

Believe me, MrW is - if I can say it that way - very, very careful with optimistic assumptions. So if he has high expectations this year, it means something. :)

While I have confidence in this group of players, a lot more than any group in years, I still have no faith in the scouts or the management team of the junior program...and despite a strong group of players, HC is more than capable of screwing it up. Some of them are as dumb as dirt. in fact, they are dumber.

Outside of McDavid do any of Canada's 97's have a real shot of making the roster?

I would be shocked if they did...I can't even see Barzal having any legit shot...but if we get a more than expected crop of players sticking with their NHL teams...you never know.

Thanks. I was thinking the same as I know the 95's are such a talented group. Just wasn't sure.

This would be my projected lineup. Probably made some big omissions lol.

Probably not. Barzal and Konecny would be the most likely. It's hard to tell at this point b/c you don't know how people will look during the season yet. Jonathan Drouin certainly wasn't expected to make the team the summer before that season.

Shinkaruk and Poirier are too old.

I think Virtanen will make it.

At this point he would be an option at LW if Domi is either A. in Arizona or B. still suffering from entitlement syndrome. As you can probably tell, I'm not too impressed with either of our two "Knights" at the moment.

I still haven't heard anything re: summer camp. any news you are hearing?

Haven't heard anything. I don't think they're doing the Lake Placid thing again...a while ago it sounded like they were trying to get something going with Russia or Czech.

Which makes absolutely zero sense to me, but indicative of the kind of idiocy that overflows at HC. no doubt this is coming from the "genius" that brought us the Ufa lamps.

With it being in Montreal/Toronto this year, I can only imagine what over the top stupidity Salmond will come up with this time.

Well, with the king of cronyism (Nicholson) departed from his throne, I'm hoping the other dumb-dumb bureaucrats further down the HC pyramid scheme will see the writing on the wall and look for greener pastures. Pascall moved on a few days ago and now it's up to Salmond to get the hell out of dodge. I'll give chief scout one more tournament to show his stuff, but if this tournament goes south, with this collection of talent, then he should just look for something else to do that is not related to scouting or hockey.

I don't understand how Horvat can not be on the team? He'll be the one of the older ones, he's a leader and shown in the OHL he is a very good two-way talent that comes up big in big games. He'll be able to shutdown a 17 year old Jack Eichel IMO, Horvat is a strong kid.

Tyler Bertuzzi looks like an interesting choice (good suggestion Brewster) he can be a good energy guy.
