He'll miss a few while in NHL camp...and I hope which ever team drafts him will keep him on the roster for the 9 games...

or would the OHL strictly enforce the suspension and only count games when he is reassigned back to junior? It will be interesting to see how that plays out. I think he is getting a raw deal on that.

My understanding is it only counts to games once he's been re-assigned.

@TheWriter I really like your lineup but I would switch Bennett and Dal Colle.

and your reasoning for that? Seems to me you're switching two players from their strong positions.

If Klimchuk is on his game I'd prefer he move up to play with McDavid as the line of Klimchuk (LW) McD (C) Reinhart (RW) was exceptional at the U18... so if they continue to show that kind of chemistry that's a change I'd consider 1st.

Dal Colle and Bennett together seems intriguing. moving Domi down to play on a line with Petan may work...but then again may not.... Although Domi is another player that may not be available come Xmas time.

Why didn't you bring a proper coach with a proper tactic plan? The play seemed very unorganized and chaos-like ... exactly unlike Sweden and Finland. It's clearly not about the individuals talens but the whole team overall combined. Canada clearly had all the talent in the world, who thought didn't seem to play together as the team... almost like Russia.

If you don't understand the game plans and stuff like that, this will happen in Sochi aswell. Mark my words.

Just saw the post, had to reply

Why doesn't Finland and Sweden always bring a proper coach with a proper plan then?

They have had their ass kicked plenty over the years.

You make it sound like those teams always do great, which they do not.

In case you haven't noticed no one wins all the time, you are going to have years where your team fails.

It's quite scary to think the top 3 center's on this team with everyone available would be Mackinnon, Reinhart, and McDavid. What a team that would be to watch on home ice lol.

Nothing can touch 2011, when we barely lost to the Americans in OT. Our center depth that year was: Kadri, Schenn, Cormier, Luke Adam, Henrique

What we missed:
Tavares, Stamkos, Duchene, O'Rielly

2008 - 2010 was a golden age for Canadian forwards. I guess you could add 2011 to that too with Strome, Schiefele, Huberdeau and RNH (though I didnt because while they are all very good, none of them seem to be at that franchise level that Stamkos, Tavares, Duchene, Hall, Seguin are)

2010 is when we lost in OT to the Americans.
2011 Buffalo
2012 Calgary/Edmonton
2013 Ufa, Russia
2014 Malmo, Sweden.

All 1993 born players which made them part of the 2013 Ufa team, not in with what you refer to as the "golden age" 2008-10. I always find it easier to refer to birth year rather than draft year.

Your right about 2010 being the American year.

But by golden age I mean the 2008 - 2010 drafts. 06 - 07, and even to an extent the 05 draft after Crosby were pretty mediocre for Canadian forwards, compared to 2008 - 2011

Well 2006 and 2007 netted a few gems in Towes, Giroux and Coutour...so I'd rate those two years higher than 2011 and 2012 and the four you mentioned of Strome, Schiefele, Huberdeau and RNH. Out of the 4 I'd rate only RNH as a real player. I've never seen the 1993 and 1994 (esp. for forwards) birth years as being our finest...short on elite level skill and lacks overall depth.

any surprises this year? in terms of players you think might make it?

Hard to say.. it depends on who sticks in the NHL and who is playing well in the 1st half of the year leading up to camp. The 5 players who may remain with their NHL clubs are Domi, Lazar, Reinhart (more likely if he goes 1 in the draft) Nurse and Ekblad (same boat as Reinhart)

Tangent...

Why us Dougie Hamilton soooooo good UNTIL he puts on a Hockey Canada jersey?

If you are talking about the 2013 team, I can think of 6-8 other players + the coach I can point the finger at before Dougie Hamilton.

Lots of depth to chose from next year

Duclair - mcdavid - rienhart
Domi - petan - virtanen
Dal colle - horvat - ritchie
Bennet - lazar - baptiste
Perlini - verhaghe- gauthier
Klimchuck-barzal- nastasiuk Dickinson - konecny - chase
Bertuzzi - strome - hosang
Crouse - dauphin - N. Roy
Lemiux - mccan - bleackley
Elie - fabbri - watson
Point - kujiwinski

Ekblad - nurse
Morrisey - bigras
Fleury - morin
Bowey - theodore
Mckeown - pilon
Heatherington - sanhiem
Peters - J. Roy
Subban - martin
Day - chychrun
Spencer - meloche

Fucale, jarry, comrie, martin

I probley missed some names but we should defenitly have a chance at gold if we get key guys like ekblad, nurse, horvat, rienhart, petan, domi etc. All to return and make the right slections both players and coaching staff. Very excited for the tournment!

* also wouldnt mind seeing a couple young guys make the team (barzal, konecny). Defenitly two very talented players and deserve a chance, should be high draft picks next year.

With McDavid on the team, there's absolutely zero chance HC would include 2 more 1997 born players. Hell would have to freeze over in order for that to happen..a tournament on home ice...haven't won in 5 and failed to medal in the past 2. You would have to think that a result anything short of gold on home ice this year and there'll be several people at Hockey Canada whose careers will come to a crashing halt if that scenario unfolds... (maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing)

Who are the NHL players that will be missing from the WJC next year?

In the NHL next year
Mackinnon (of course a certainty)
Drouin (99.99% certainty)
Nurse (highly likely)
Ekblad (likely)
Reinhart (likely)
Domi (50/50)
Lazar (a possibility)
Horvat (likely)

Thank you. Do you happen to know which NHLers from other countries will miss out?

I'll have to do some checking... but

off the top of my head...

Nichushkin (Russia)
Barkov (Finland)

Thank you for your efforts. I can do some of this myself, but I'm not the sharpest tool in the box. Ypu have to be born after 1/1/94 to be eligible, is that correct?

This year's tournament is for players born 1995 or any player who doesn't turn 20 before the tournament starts on Dec. 26th.
