Why didn't you bring a proper coach with a proper tactic plan? The play seemed very unorganized and chaos-like ... exactly unlike Sweden and Finland. It's clearly not about the individuals talens but the whole team overall combined. Canada clearly had all the talent in the world, who thought didn't seem to play together as the team... almost like Russia.

If you don't understand the game plans and stuff like that, this will happen in Sochi aswell. Mark my words.

Anyone saying McDavid shouldn't be invited next year.. give your ****ing heads a shake. Unbelievable. The kid is 16 years old, you don't see 16 year olds dominate this tournament. Completely clueless people in this thread.

I bet those people have no idea how much he dominated the u-18' either

I honestly can't see any of them being skipped. It's never happened, to the best of my knowledge, for a skater to be able to return (not injured or NHL) and not be picked. Only happened in net in '01 Finley got skipped after being back-up in 99 and 00. He had noticeably slipped in his play in '00 and still got picked. He was still struggling in '01 and got skipped over.

Of course, the sense of entitlement Hockey Canada encourages and fosters is staggering.
I'd bring back 4 or maybe 5 of the 11 eligible to return...the rest I'd cut loose and go with the players who won gold at the U18 in Sochi in April.

The only fly in the ointment is that of those 4 or 5... both Sam Reinhart and Ekblad will most likely stay in the NHL...although both showed in this tournament that another year in junior would be best for both players.

I am absolutely stunned at the amount of people that are hating on McDavid in this thread. The kid was one of our best players in the pre-tournament and through the first few games before he started to get benched due to disciplinary reasons. He lost his confidence after that, not to mention a lot of ice time. You might also notice that Reinhart and Horvat also seemed ineffective after McDavid was neutered by Sutter. Next year he'll be a year older and more developed, and will be looked at as a first liner despite still only being 17. It'll also be his last chance at this tournament as he'll be in the NHL the following season.

I would not re-invite McDavid.

You realize he's 16 right now right?

How did Crosby do when he was 16?

What merit would make you automatically put his name for next year? I think you're even more laughable; he was forgettable this year, even moreso than other players on this forgettable Canadian team.

"He has potential!", "A generational talent!"

Didn't show any of that; unless he does, why invite him? Waste of a spot.

Potential is useless unless you actually utilize it.

Once again... he's 16. Crosby was a non-factor when he was 16... it's just the way it is. I think you're under estimating the amount of development that happens between the ages of 16-19, it's a massive difference.

Quite honestly I wouldn't be surprised if McDavid was one of the best players on the roster next year.

I don't think McDavid should make it, he was so bad this year. Totally invisible in the 3rd periods when they needed goals

The stupidity on these forums never ceases to amaze me. These can't honestly be legitimate opinions and clearly must be people just trying to get people going.

Anybody that could legitimately criticize a 16 year old player for not dominating an under 20 tournament clearly expected way too much out of this kid. I don't even think that he played that badly, but Sutter saw the writing on the wall for this team and decided that if he was going to go down he would go down with his older players.

He scored a huge goal against the US in a meaningful game even if he was a bit too much in over his head due to his age.

McDavid is going to be fine and will be a huge part of the team next year.

I'm confused, I thought this thread was for Team Canada 2015. There should be a separate thread for all the 2014 business.

That being said, I think Canada should look to bring the players that are performing at a high level at the time of selection, rather than how high they got drafted. I'm hoping Baptiste makes the team

There was, and then they got merged I think.

It's really hard to say though, because the jump from 18-19 may benefit a lot of these guys and make them solid picks for next year. Bigras and Gauthier either weren't given opportunities/failed to make most of the limited ones they got. That said, they could be significantly better next year. To leave 6 or 7 of them off though seems extreme.

Which of these guys would you not want back, considering that MOST players play better in a 2nd tournament by a fair margin (historically). I left off the two mentioned above, as I assumed they were 2 of them. I can't see leaving 4 or 5 of these guys off.

Fucale
Ekblad
Morrissey
Horvat
McDavid
Petan
Reinhart
Lazar
Drouin

probably a tad extreme... but think about... what is our biggest complaint? Teams don't seem to gel quick enough.... well here's a team of 1995 born players won the U18. next year 2015 is for players born in 1995. I think it should be a factor in team selection. Horvat and Petan would be the two I'd be most inclined to cut from next year's team.

The CHL stat sheet shouldn't be the be all and end all in the decision making process...and I'm beginning to think that the CHL is not everything we think it is...And it's high time HC open the door to Canadians who opted to play NCAA.

I didn't actually read thru the thread. BUT if that's true ( if people are disparaging McD ) it's nonsense. Could say smthg similar about Dumba, he was still a top pairing guy and, for all his false, we woulda been worse off without him sans doubt. Think about it? we'da been forced to give minutes to Bigras, move Pelech into the top 4 etc..

As for McDavid? he lost confidence but he never looked outa place , other than that single shift when they tried him at center, and we quickly got scored on.

He made some eye popping plays early on, on a line with Horvat + Reinhart ...Had two assists vs Germany, and really he coulda had about 4 goals in that game.

Comparisons to Sidney at 16 ( who didn't do much in his first WJC ) are not so far fetched IMO. + he was awesome in the U18's as a 15 year old!.

just thinkin of a line with ritchie and virtanen on the wings, would cause some real havoc, make room for a mcdavid or could add a domi or horvat in there, or lazar

2015 team canada

anybody know what the summer schedule for Team Canada will be in preparation for the Xmas tournament? Are we going back to the Lake Placid event? I was reading on a Russian site that Team Russia is planning on training in Canada in August, including playing a series of exhibition games. I haven't heard anything up to this point from Hockey Canada on that little tidbit of info and was just wondering if anybody out there had anything more concrete to offer?

They haven't made any announcement yet...and IIRC after the Lake Placid thing last year they said something to the extent they wouldn't be returning b/c it didn't fit their needs.

Doesn't fit their needs? Which HC talking head said that? Salmond no doubt.

Front runner for coach? Hunter?

Yeah, I think it was him.

I couldn't find the article from last summer...but according to this they're thinking of having a summer tournament in Montreal with Czech and Russia: http://www.torontosun.com/2014/01/01/hockey-canada-looking-into-summer-junior-tournament

a bad decision...but would jive with the article I read on the Russian website about their intentions to train and play x-games in Canada over the summer.

I do like how the article debunks the myth that the U20 tournament is a tournament strictly for 19 year old players...I've been arguing for years that very point...

Not really much of a fan of Bo Horvat. I hope he sticks in Vancouver and plays well so there isn't really an option of him being released for the tourny.
Obviously Drouin will be in Tampa and I see no scenario whereby he gets released. I'd like to see Ho Sang on the roster, but Hockey Canada has a hate on for him, so unlikely.

The fact that Ho-Sang has to miss 15 games to start the year doesn't help his case either. Feel bad for the guy.

Nice lineup Mr. Writer. Wouldn't change a thing.:handclap:

My belief is Comrie will eventually win the start in goal over Fucale:naughty:

He'll miss a few while in NHL camp...and I hope which ever team drafts him will keep him on the roster for the 9 games...

or would the OHL strictly enforce the suspension and only count games when he is reassigned back to junior? It will be interesting to see how that plays out. I think he is getting a raw deal on that.
