I am a HABS fan and seriously do not understand the love Fucale gets I just do not see him as all that great honestly and IMHO there were better options within the CHL than him Jarry it the biggest honestly.

Well, he certainly seems to be Hockey Canada's guy...and we'll have our answer in about 3 weeks whether or not Hockey Canada suffers from Kevin Lowe disease. Do they actually know a thing or 2 about winning? they think they do... but to be honest, I can't imagine why they would think that. There are a few at Hockey Canada walking around with inflated egos based on what NHL executives have done at the NHL Olympics. Remove them from the equation and Hockey Canada's record becomes quite atrocious over the past 5 years...

my fingers are crossed that whoever the starter is, he can pull a few decent games out of his ass.

Lazar and Reinhart are the only 2 players on last year's team that played well. McDavid gets a pass because he was only 16. Some argue Petan was good last year, but I don't agree with that assessment at all.

Not good "at all"?

Clearly Petan was one of Canada's top players in at least 3 of the games.

Why the hate?

I have to agree and the idea that a given spot on the roster is a good idea is terrible. I recall one Brett Hull going to play for the US because Canada wouldn't guarantee him a spot on the roster so why now is it acceptable. Competition is good and this is not competition.

no doubt. HC will have a lot to answer for if our goaltending falters this year...considering how they have gifted the 2 spots to "their guys" at selection camp for the past 2 tourneys instead of an open competition at selection camp.

Fucale is the biggest weakness on this team for sure. Yes, he can play great under pressure but he can crap the joint out as well (as evidenced by his semi-final loss to Finland last year).

HC needs to be held accountable if we lose again and the goal-tending is subpar. While I like Comrie I'd feel so much more comfortable having Jarry there as well.
What's the deal with bringing three goalies to an event like this -- do you need to sacrifice another roster player to do that?

Opinions on Petan are certainly mixed. His results at last year's tourney were probably mixed as well -- played some good games, had some very big goals, but played average in other games.

This year's his performance at Jets training camp was very good. Most felt that he definitely was good enough to make the Jets out of camp but it was sort of predetermined that like Ehlers he needed to be exceptional or he would be sent back.

Based on stats alone, he seems to have had a bit of a downer year in Portland this year. I think he is playing much better defensively, but his offensive numbers are not as good as last year for sure. Not sure what to expect from him at this tourney; if placed with skilled forwards who can put the puck in the net, he'll be a force. If asked to fill a checking role, he'll do his job very well but it won't be reflected on the score sheet.

no, you can name 3 goaltenders to the roster. 3 goaltenders + 20 skaters.

Hockey Canada simply chooses not to name 3 goaltenders. They have a philosophical dislike of a player sitting in a suit in the pressbox.... and they like shooting themselves in the foot wherever and whenever possible.

whos gonna get the punt now due to Lazar coming back

I think Bob McKenzie's tweet from 4 days ago will still ring true:

Cut 3 from this group:

Dal Colle, Ritchie, Crouse, Gauthier, Paul, Dickinson, Chartier, Point

I'd cut Crouse, Chartier, Ritchie. Ritchie only because he is not disciplined enough and has not played good hockey this season.

I can't believe Dal Colle is even in a 'maybe cut' discussion

Fabbri - McDavid - Lazar
Domi - Reinhart - Duclair
Crouse - Petan - Virtanen
Dal Colle - Paul - Point
Gauthier

That's how I'd have it.

Actually that's a lie, I'd have a Crouse-Lazar-Virtanen line but I'm pretty sure Lazar is destined to be McJesus' winger

I'm hoping to see this lineup:

Fabbri - McDavid - Lazar
Domi - Reinhart - Duclair
Dal Colle - Petan - Virtanen
Crouse - Gauthier - Point
Dickinson

So I'd cut Ritchie, Chartier, and Paul. I could really go either way on Dickinson/Paul/Crouse, but from what I've heard Crouse showed much better at the CIS games last weekend than did the other two, and is also a natural winger. Dickinson is a versatile guy who can slot in at any forward position, play on either of the special teams, or fill in throughout the lineup in case of injury.

Don't know if Lazar really wanted to be loaned, he's already played in the WJC, probably rather be in the NHL.

He's no different then almost every hockey player in the world not already in the NHL.

Character runs deep for this guy, I expect he took it to heart when the sens told him they need him to be a driver on this team for a couple weeks.

Of course he wants to continue to collect 10000 dollar cheques and perhaps another local endorsement deal. Not to mention the best league in the world
