Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

Maybe there was some malcontent, maybe Miller has helped. Others have touched on those.

Overall, the remaining group has been a lot more mature and shown a lot more fight than we previously thought.

Zibanejad in particular seems really engaged. You know, if they just got to the point where they were f***in tired of it all, I couldn't blame them. We certainly were. The recent moves seem to have injected some hope.
Just having a couple of guys in for Kreider and Smith has made a big difference . A little tenacity goes a long way . If they had a guy to spot Laf for a couple of games it might help as well . He needs coaching help in a major way . They better soon have somebody working with him in practices.....he seems lost out there in his own little mind . It has to be a confidence thing ? Geesh....he was a top pick . It gets frustrating watching him .

It's hard to picture value for a trade like that because like, they just shouldn't trade McLeod, but you have to account for Buffalo being dumb because they're usually dumb.

I feel like the closer to the deadline it gets with Smith the better, with the next couple of days being the sweet spot.

Since hes being held out we know theres likely several teams involved.

Drury just needs to pull the trigger when he feels he's topped out on the return value. Probably holding out for a second +. Maybe hes waiting for things to get going so it kicks a few teams in the pants. Just don't want to get to a point where everyone starts making moves and he thins the market for Smith himself.

I'm linking the patience though.

It has to be hard to go out there for your shift with 8 minutes left in the 2nd period after just watching multiple shifts of other lines where basically every player just floats around.

Miller, Borgen, and the Wolfpack guys all play with tenacity each shift.

Buffalo is probably asking for Schneider for McLeod

Guy like Kreider won’t get it done

They arent getting Schneider for a pending RFA. Kreider fits what they need perfectly in terms of a playoff tested veteran with term. Problem is that Kreider wont go there in all likelihood.

The original trade memo mentioned Trouba and Kreider by name, and only one of them is still here. Kreider was healthy scratched for a game as well. that doesnt signal to me that they are thrilled with his play, regardless of injury. And even with his back, and this apparently new phantom injury, everything about his season has been handled in an odd way.

He'll probably make it through the deadline and return at some point in place of Othmann, but imo, he is being held out not because he's def being moved but as a precaution if he is.
I told myself I wasn’t going to interject myself into the ‘run Kreider out of town’ threads, but the “phantom” injury occurred during the 3rd period of the Buffalo game when Samuelson barreled into him per Sam Rosen. Thank you. We will now return to our previously recorded programming.

Oh well in that case lets get him back into the lineup! The back injury didnt stop him so why should this one?

What, and lose that 8 minutes of invaluable tenacity from those juggernauts from Hartford? (I’m actually glad they’re up to see what they can do).

Oilers way overpaid for Frédéric who probably won't even play until playoffs.....if he plays.

That trade is terrible and probably only gets beat out by Jeannot going for a whole draft class recently.

Oilers are desperate to make a run which bodes well for Mcd to test FA.
