Nice to see Lazar back, he should be the motor of the team for this tourney. He never cheats and keeps the pistons pumping at all times!

Id imagine he would be a great pick for Captain as he appears to be someone others would respect and emulate on and off the ice.

Fabbri can play both wings

Good to hear.

If they play Lazar on the right side I think the top 9 looks like this:

Fabbri - McDavid - Lazar
Domi - Reinhart - Duclair
Dal Colle - Petan - Virtanen

If Lazar plays center it looks like this:

Petan - McDavid - Fabbri
Domi - Reinhart - Duclair
Dal Colle - Lazar - Virtanen

Great news! Slap a C on that man! I'd play him at centre personally and use him to matchup against the opposition's top lines and top PK duty. Lazar, McDavid, Reinhart, Petan is great centre depth and finally aren't wasting a spot on a one-dimensional specialist.

I would have preferred Horvat, but Lazar is still a huge add to this Canadian team.

Thing is Horvat himself said a couple of weeks ago in an interview, that he wants to stay with the Canucks, and already competed at the WJHC. He did not sound exactly thrilled to play at the WJHC. If that is the case, i prefer a guy like Lazar who is more excited to play in this tournament.

I'm just glad this likely bumps Gauthier out of the lineup.

That third line looks wicked. Crazy depth!

Dal Colle Petan Virtanen is exactly the third line this team has been missing the past few years. Scoring depth is so important in this tournament. Let alone those top 2 lines wowza.

The fan in me wants to see him with mcdavid 5 on 5.

The strategist in me says that center depth with lazar means every line can get on top of any top line from any team in the tourney.

I don't see why we need to bring up Horvat's name at all. He's not a part of Team Canada and that's that.

Now I might be in the minority when I say this, but I'd like to see Lazar in the 3C position. To me, that's our biggest weakness. I'm not too worried about our offensive capabilities, and any line that Lazar is playing on is going to be offensive anyways. If the plan is to match fire for fire, then I'm fine with Lazar on McDavid's wing, matching up against the Eichel's of the world. If that's not the case, I'd rather deploy Lazar as a defensive juggernaut who plays in all special teams situations.

Either way, this is a tremendous boost to an already talented Canada roster. I haven't been this excited for our Junior team in years.

Seriously? Petan was a first line centre for much of the tournament last year and now he's a third. This team has serious depth there.

I feel like Lazar is going to play the wing.

The locks so far on this team to me are:
Connor McDavid- F
Sam Reinhart- F
Anthony Duclair- F
Curtis Lazar- F
Nicolas Petan- F
Jake Virtanen- F
Robby Fabbri- F
Josh Morrissey- D
Madison Bowey- D
Shea Theodore- D
Darnell Nurse- D

Brayden Point is really close to a lock for me, it's just a matter of how you want to role the lines. If they play Lazar at RW then he could get bumped to the 13th forward spot, or 4th line where he wouldn't be effective. If Lazar plays center then he stays in the top 9.

i doubt it. they'll probably have lazar play on mcdavids or reinharts wing

Which, in turn, bumps Petan down to the third line. Gauthier will probably still be on the fourth line, but who knows. They seem to like the Point-Paul combo, so the third member of that line is down to Gauthier, Dickinson, Crouse, and Ritchie.

As far as the loan itself goes, it's always great to get a player like this back.

But the big thing with lazar is he's undoubtedly an offensive player at the junior level. But he's already a very mature defensive player at the NHL level. Very rare for a junior prospect.

His versatility allows for a several different options that can give the team a real boost.

I think he means that Gauthier is unnecessary with a key PKer in Lazar coming into the lineup, not that he's going to play center and force Gauthier off the team.

Gauthier wins draws, kills penalties, plays the body. I know he's not exciting as some of the other guys but HC will take a few tenacious checkers like Gauthier.

We're definitely stacked at centre, but there's some redundancy with the kind of centres that we do have. Lazar is bigger than Petan, and has been playing in a defensive role against NHL'ers all year.

I just thing back to the role of Toews at the last Olympics and see Lazar playing in a similar role.

Like I said, you're probably right. But, the Bigras cut proves that Canada is willing to cut returning players, so it's not set in stone if they prefer another player's skillset.

The thing that should be pointed out is that in loan situations there is undoubtedly some behind closed doors conversations between gm and HC.

If so, you may see lazar in a more offensive minded role.

I have no opinion on right or wrong, just confident these talks go on in a scratch my back sense.

If defense was all that mattered, lazar would still be in the NHL.

That's an angle that I never really considered... But I think you're probably on the money.
