2014 Spengler Cup (Dec. 26-31)

He was really good when he played in jokerit last season, while jokerit were still playing in finnish smliiga. Also had a great game and when ufa played jokerit earlier this khl season.

This game looks like a typical ufa game, quite open ice hockey. Jokerit playing with somewhat mixed lines and having two dmen standins to balance the strain on the players which is good imo. Khl season is pretty hectic.

Were there a lot of changes to the Jokerit team compared to when they still played in SM Liiga? Because Jokerit is playing well IMO and if you look at the standings they're also one of the better KHL teams this season. Makes you wonder how other good teams from Sweden or Switzerland or so would do in the KHL.
 
Oh yes, Jokerit were struggling the whole last season in smliiga and Irving pretty much did everything that was possible... But the roster was completely different ofcourse. Can't even compare this roster to the last season's skill wise.

There are teams that would do just fine in khl, like last season's swedish champ Skelleftea or finnish last seasons champions Kärpät. Funny thing, Ska petersburgh bought skelleftea top players and Jokerit bought several players from Kärpät for this season. Other than that, you would need to up the budget in general for most of the teams quite much if you are aiming for a khl playoff spot.
 
I assume there must have been some good reason why Jokerit didn't pull their goaltender? Was it a goal differential issue, that would have been worse than losing? That didn't make sense but I'm not up on all the rules of the tournament. Odd, on the surface.

They will advance if they win by more than one goal tomorrow and would have needed to win by more than two goals if they got a GA in the last few minutes.
 
While it is nice to see a Croatian entry, i am not sure what the point of this project is. Is it to get better players to take up residence and prop up the national team? It looks like the development of home grown talent is not high on the list but maybe i am missing something.
 
Anyone know if Dekanich is on the tournament roster for Zagreb? Remember him with the Ice Caps

Thanks, now it makes sense. I figured it had to be something like that as I've run into similar situations with my son's minor hockey tournament games. The commentators should have figured it was some scenario like that (even better, they should know the rules cold).

Brown is passable. Good sense of humor. Potvin? Yeah, one of the worst color men in the business which is a shame condidering his on ice ability. Hard to believe how bad he is actually.
 
Omark with injury? Why the hell did Jokerit go in this tournament in first place. It's ****ing joke. Playing with some players that are not even Jokerit players, other team is checking like they are playing for stanley cup.
 
Lombardi dirty POS. Omark better be ok and the refs cant see a ****

Swiss teams only care about Spengler. Jokerit is there on vacation. And these Maurer Hächler helps have been awful.

KHL tries to market their product there but whats the use when the teams cant play 100% as they wanna save energy for the real games.

Didn't look like something serious. Just very painful. Do you have any news in regard to his health?
I hope he can keep playing, he's very entertaining to watch.

And yes, there are players who actually show up to win this tournament. Believe it or not.
 
Omark was on ice after the slash but you never know, hopefully nothing major. Dirty play from Lombardi in a tournament like this.
 
Yeah, looked bad for a second. Luckily Omark seems to be ok. Would have been the worst case scenario if he gets injured. Jokerit playing with a quite random roster now, lokomo line is up tho.

Gotta give credit to Servette too, they are constantly putting pressure on jokerit end with 5 men and high energy physical play.
