Are you also fine with John Moore, top 4 defender? Or is that supposed to work itself out?

I am all for trading Staal in a package for a center. I'd prefer that center isn't as overpaid as ROR.

What available center won't be overpaid? Spezza, Thornton, Stastny, and O'Reilly either are, or will be, making between $6-7M.

We don't have to worry about spezza anymore.. he said he's either going to St.Louis or Anaheim and didn't have us on a list of teams he'd wave his no trade for.

Yeah thank god we have glen Sather. Glenny has finished in the top 4 of the East ONCE since leaving Edmonton. Let's keep doing what we've been doing. Typical. Keep drinking the kool aid

Sather has his faults but there is no way that he would trade Kreider barring massive overpayment. Trading Kreider when he is just scratching the surface of his incredible potential would be asinine.

The list is for teams he WOULDNT go to. We weren't on there. He has no control over the remaining 19 teams. We can still get him.

Kreider + Skjei for Spezza + Pageau + 2015 2nd

Why do people want Thornton? Trading assets for a 34-year-old Cupless center who talks **** on the Rangers? Sounds like a perfect fit.

Him not having a cup has nothing to do with him.

Do you think any team in the league wouldn't want Hank given the opportunity?

This is a guy that is 34, yes, but he goes against top lines and dominates. Here, since Kreider-Stepan-Nash is so good at driving play, he would play on the second line and face lesser competition and thrive.

Players like Joe don't just fall off the face of the earth...I imagine when Hank is on the decline and our window is closing/closed, Joe will still be playing very good hockey wherever he is.

The problem is what it would take to get him, and the fact that we don't have any goalscorers to play with him, since Kreider and Nash are too good with Stepan.

You realize that the two trades you just proposed would exactly constitute continuing to "do what we've been doing," right?

One likely overpays - both in terms of traded assets and cap hit - for a good but not great player and kills the team's depth.

The other throws away a very valuable and skilled young player for good aging vet who looks to be on his way down and is only signed for next season. A season that if his play does fall off some for, would stick us with another player pretty significantly underperforming his contract.

Sather, is that you?

Yeah, I mean how often do you get a chance to acquire a player like Jason Spezza?

Spezza is different than the others...

Think I'd lose now in order to ensure the future. If need be, shed a guy like MSL at the deadline if if it's not looking too good; if he's playing well, he could return something as a rental. They had the bite at the apple. They did very well and it's hard complaining much about the end result. The organization really isn't in a position to mortgage much of the future due to the cap situation, and the fact that they really do not know enough about what type of NHLers they have in the system (meaning youth to replace any youthful assets currently playing if they decide to trade). Well, we don't know at least; perhaps they believe they do.

Why would you lose now when the Rangers are the 2nd best team in the EC and just made the SCF?

My only question regarding this post, when the future is here our current goaltender will be on his way out. Then we may have the right team but not a good enough goaltender. What do we do then?

I could have sworn the same exact thing was said of Brad Richards.

He "expects" to be traded to one of those teams. Stars are an outside option, too.

He only submitted a list of teams he wouldn't go to, I believe. Everyone else seems like fair game, which would suck if we gave assets for him. I wish we were on his no trade list, lol.

If we buy out Richards we can re-sign Stralman. Let Boyle walk because some team will give him stupid money that the Rangers can't justify. Re-sign Dom Moore. Unless he takes similar money to stay, let Captain Taco go to the highest bidder. Put Nash on the line with Brass and Zucc. He's a bigger body who can cycle like Taco did and has more finishing skill.

Explore bringing Gaborik in? We may have the money but not sure we could put him on a line that allows him the same chances that Kopitar gives him. I would like to see what he could do in AV's system though. He scored 40 twice in Torts'.

Kreider-Stepan-MSL
Nash-Brassard-Zuccarello
Hagelin-Lindberg(?)-Fast(?)/Gaborik?
Miller-Moore-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Stall-Stralman
Moore-Klein

See if McIlrath, Allen or someone comes into camp and wins a job.
The 3rd line scares me because it's young, but teams that win the Cup seem to have young guys play major roles. Why not us? If they can't keep up, find a cheap veteran that can. Derek Roy?

Kreider wasn't traded when he was a prospect that was being eaten alive by Tortorella. What makes people think that its even a possibility now that he had a calder-like rookie campaign?
