Speculation: 2014 Offseason - Roster Building / Trade Speculation Thread

Spezza concerns me.

Reason being is that the Rangers are a fast etam that wants to get faster. Stepan is slow, Brassard is not much faster. Spezza skates almost as badly as Richards does now. As the years progress he's going to get worse.

I would move Staal and Hagelin for RO'R and Siemens and keep Ryan planted firmly on the LW

Re-sign Pouliot

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Pouliot - Brassard - Zuccs
O'Reilly - Miller - St. Louis
Fast - Lindberg - Dorsett

That would mean letting Moore and Boyle walk.

I'd also let Stralman walk as well.

McD - Girardi
Staal - Allen
Moore - Klein

Brassard is a "dime a dozen" 3rd liner? Thats ridiculous.

I think it can be argued he is not much of a downgrade to ROR on a 1 to 1 basis. And you guys want to throw in Staal. What a disaster.

45 points in today's NHL equates to a 2nd line player.

I wouldn't do that deal either.

I think he's a huge downgrade from RO'R.

I think Ryan is a better scorer while being an underrated passer, but defensively Brassard cannot come close to Ryan. The difference is oceans
 
Brian Campbell wants out of florida any chance we go for him? I kno he's great on the pp point..
We trade staal to col for ROR
Trade for Campbell and have florida keep some of his cap

I think its just another case of grass is greener....and I like Ryan O'Reilly.

Why the Rangers need to trade their 2nd best center and 3rd best defenseman to get him is beyond me. Would be such a **** move.

How did you trade Staal and still have him n the lineup?
 
Doesn't matter, can't swap a Center for ROR; the whole point of acquiring him would be to replace Richards. Using Brassard as the conditional asset would be massive overpayment IMO.
 
Guys were in win now mode. Kreider has 40 career points. He's a stud I know but Spezza is an upgrade RIGHT NOW. He really help our PP too.

I sacrifice the future of Kreider for the elite game of Spezza.

Spezza is on the downside. He'd be a Brad Richards replacement in every sense of the word, and thats not a good thing.

dude has a 7m contract... I hope to never see him in a rangers jersey. He is on the wrong side of 30. Slow. His shot isnt as accurate as it once was. He has one of the highest cap hits of all defenders not named Weber.

If they will take a 3rd round pick and retain half his cap thats a different story. Or maybe if they want to trade him for Aaron Ashums rights.

I'd rather have Thornton. I guess it depends on the window you're looking at. I think JT's 3 years at under 7mil is good considering where the rest of the team is right now. Now, I'm not trading Kreider or Stepan for him (or almost any deal, which makes me smh at posts that want to deal either of the two), but I would definitely like to hear what the Sharks want.
 
Why do people want Thornton? Trading assets for a 34-year-old Cupless center who talks **** on the Rangers? Sounds like a perfect fit.

Are you also fine with John Moore, top 4 defender? Or is that supposed to work itself out?

I am all for trading Staal in a package for a center. I'd prefer that center isn't as overpaid as ROR.

Twice. If you are going to make those arguments I suggest at least getting your facts right.

*Edit: Techincally, we have finished in the top 4 multiple times if you are strictly counting the east as we have made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs more than once or twice.

If you are talking about ECF's, we have been to 2 of those. If you are talking about the standings, who gives a ****?

I dont. I think Thornton and Nash's career accomplishments are pretty pathetic when compared to their talent levels.

Thats why Im scared this has Sather move written all over it.
