I feel like Staal/Brassard for ROR+ is something that could happen. Depends on what the Rangers really think of Miller, but the idea behind that is that moving Brassard with Staal is a cap saver in the now and in the future.

I think that's big overpayment and the Avs have no need for a center... Why couldn't we move Brassard to another team in that situation for maybe a PPQB?

In what world would the Avs give up ROR for one year of Staal and a dime a dozen third liner, much less add to it? I would love ROR here but good luck giving that proposal to Avs fans.

If the Avs re-sign Stastny they won't need a center like Brassard. I'm just spitballing here.

I agree that perhaps Brassard could be used as a chip to acquire and offensive D, though.

So you take Thornton and his horrible playoff resume but don't want Kesler? What?

Yes, I thought my prior posts would have made that fact clear.

I mean it's a good fit. He can't get over the hump and we haven't been able to in the last 20 years. If Sather trades for him I will be very unhappy. Would be worse than the Nash trade. Haven't liked that one since day one.

Guys the Avs don't need a center. Staal for ROR makes sense for both teams.

Why would the Avs take one year of Staal before he inevitably goes to Carolina? The Avs have something nice going and aren't going to give it up because we simply want it.

I want no part of Thornton at all. I don't know why. I just don't.

I don't want another 34 year old player. Huge, Huge upgrade, but bleh. Especially not for Staal/Miller. I'd rather just keep Staal and run with Miller as the 3C. ROR on the other hand..

If we can't ugprade at center (at a price I'm willing to do), then we might as well just keep most of the same team and let them grow together.

I think Staal has close value for ROR, don't think we need to include Miller. I think Staal is probably more highly rated by NHL executives than he is on HF.

edit: I realize you didn't suggest including Miller, but it's been thrown around in the thread.

Literally this. ROR is a beast and he's young as ****. I'll take the 23-year-old over the 34-year-old.

O'Reilly/Stepan would be such a sick 1-2-punch. Two righty's who play great defense? Drool.

O'Reilly/Stepan/Brass/Moore is crazy good center depth, with 2 high end 2 way talents, and Brass is probably one of the better 3Cs in the league in that scenario.

Our RWs are stacked, and Hags/Kreider on the LW is nice. You can slot Miller in with Brass and Zucc or re-sign Pouliot and shop Miller for a LD.

I don't see Staal leaving the NHL's premier up-and-coming team just to go dick around with his brothers in Carolina. The Avs will be looking to move O'Reilly, it's not just some pipedream we came up with. The Avs would simply [most-likely] want some conditional trade asset, the condition being whether or not Staal re-signs. It's not complicated.

Plus, O'Reilly is up for a contract right now, not in a year.

Were in a lot if trouble if we can't re up Staal or if we move him. Girardi looked like Bickel this postseason and I'm not comfortable with Klein or anyone else really as a #3. McDonagh could probably win the Norris if the league didn't have it's biases against us but even he can't do it all. Any good Defensemen available in FA? Wonder if we try to poach Fayne from NJ. He's a decent player and it would be a typical Sather sloppy seconds move. Wouldn't mind Dan Boyle either short term.

It would be. What's the deal with Duncan Siemens? Are Avs fans still high on him? What's the deal with his development? Could he come back if the Rangers are adding to Staal?

No I get that ROR is available, I just don't see Staal getting it done. ROR is due for a contract now but his rights are good for two years IIRC

Ugh that would be amazing. Please make this happen Sather.

Very rough, but something that's plausible?

That defense is TRASH, but the top-9 is great. Can replace Fast on the fourth-line with any rookie we have, or another cheap vet. Also doesn't account for an extra forward or D. Matt Greene gets a paycut from what he currently earns. I think all other contracts are somewhat accurate.

EDIT - Forgot to swap G's and McD's sides. Deal with it :p:
