Story on Thornton is that he doesn't elevate his game in the playoffs. The guy is a consistent point producer, and is usually a lock for generating 70 plus GF for the team (mostly in assists), but in recent years he's become a go-to defensive guy in addition to his offense.

He has some pretty impressive nerd stats. Good player, and one that shouldn't be thought of as a savior, but if he comes cheap, I'd pull the trigger on it. Big playmaking center that can create room and buy time and space is a rare rare commodity in the NHL.

He isn't the fastest skater however, and he isn't going to score a lot of goals, but this guy wins a lot of board battles and generates offense from it. Will probably want to be a Ranger too since it sounds like SJ wants a changing of the guards and he can play with his buddy Nash and not be a savior at this stage in his career.

How do you not rasie your game in the playoffs putting up 100 points in 132 games? How does he get that reputation?

I'd take Thornton in a second depending on price. He and Stepan would be a sick 1-2.

It is a shame he re-signed with SJ, because if he was a UFA, he would be a great fit for our win now team. Unfortunately, I can't see the price to trade for him being palatable, especially with us lacking a 1st rounder for the next two years.

What does San Jose need?... obviously its not forwards... I think they also just like Colorado need Defense, especially with losing Boyle.

Kesler wants no part of AV and I want no part of Joe (Tee Time) Thornton. You think Nash blows on the big stage? Then take a look at Thornton in the playoffs and the Olympics. ROR or Stastny, I'm cool with either. Even with what a trade for ROR would take; I think he is a premium talent

His PPG in the regular season is a lot closer to 1... its more that he's had very few deep runs in the playoffs. For example, I think he's been in the conference finals just once.

For comparison's sake, Thornton's been in the league 15 years, and an elite player for 13-14 of those seasons.

In 15 years he's had a total of 132 career playoff games.

Derek Stepan has been in the league 4 years, and played a total of 61 playoff games.

So there is a little something to that reputation.

I do like the idea of JT Miller/D.Moore takes the third center spot with Brassard taking the second. Need to find another 4th liner but not Thornton. Definitely buy out Richards and move on.

Probably start with Staal. Big price but a deal I would do. Don't think it's Staal + Miller unless something else is coming back this way. Staal would be a real asset to Colorado.

I feel like Staal/Brassard for ROR+ is something that could happen. Depends on what the Rangers really think of Miller, but the idea behind that is that moving Brassard with Staal is a cap saver in the now and in the future.
