Brooksie playing the role of party pooper:

Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie
Pouliot, Stralman, BBoyle appear gone, Dom Moore may be going, DBoyle, Fayne, Carter, maybe Heatley on NYR radar nyp.st/1r8IGb8

12:30 PM - "Breaking News: NYR sign Paul Stastny to 7 year term"

My only expectation for today.

That and Dan Boyle signing w/ the Lightning.

Could be worse.

Could be announcing the resignings of Pouliot for 3 per for three years and Brian Boyle for 3 years at 3.5 per.

At least with Stastny, we improve our offence.

I want Erhoff and Perreault and to either trade Staal for a forward or pair Erhoff with Staal because Stralman walked.

Well, what I really want is to trade Girardi, put Erhoff with McD and keep Staal and Stralman together but that's a dream that will never come true :\

All these players hitting UFA are going to rue the fact that they didn't escalate the cap to $71 million.

They're the ones that voted in favor of escalating to $71 M. They got outvoted by the guys with contracts (who don't want higher escrow) and the guys becoming UFA's next offseason (who want a piece of the new Canadian TV money).

I hope not. I hope they realize that Ehrhoff is a MUCH better overall defenseman and provides very similar offense. He is worth the investment at this point. Boyle is not.

Depends on term...may not want to still be paying $5MM in 3-4 years, if that's what it takes to bring him in. Tough pickings out there.

Would rather keep the depth at a reasonable price than reach for Stastny, who has the next NYR center disappointment written all over him.

My thoughts for today;

Staal (+) for ROR
Sign Ehrhoff to replace Staal
Sign Penner to replace Pouliot
Manage to re-sign Strålman (PLEASE!)
Moore re-signs

Lindberg will surprise alot of people next season.

You forgot one:

NHL punishes Rangers for going over the cap

Heatley cheap as Pouliot's replacement on the third line as depth. Go the LA route and sign 'washed-up' size and skill that could maybe score goals when not under the burden of a heavy contract that's not up to date with current qualities.

Doesn't work. You have no spares. Teams don't go into the season with only 20 players. They just don't. 21 at a minimum, but more likely 22 or 23.

Heatley for cheap would be a good gamble to take, especially with power play time.

Kontiola is an interesting one, he's unproven in the league but I've always heard his name mentioned among the top KHL players.

That makes all of the RFA's take less than what I think they are going to get though. All of them are under by at least 200k a piece.

Depends on term...may not want to still be paying $5MM in 3-4 years, if that's what it takes to bring him in. Tough pickings out there.

At 32, I'd rather give him a 5 year deal, until he is 37, than give 37 year old Boyle a 2 year deal until he is 39.

Oh man that latter half sounds amazing

Vrbata could be a nice Pouliot replacement. He's hitting UFA at Noon.

Vrbata is way better then Pouliot. That line would be nearly a first line if they got him. He is one of the most underrated players in the league.

Well my official prediction had Stastny and Fayne, so deal with my fantasy contractual agreements. :)

It'll happen dammit, b/c I say it'll happen!

I agree.

Ew. This team is based on speed. Brassard and MZA would be in the other end waiting 5 minutes for Heatley to catch up.

Kontiola is interesting for sure. And he has played internationally for Finland so he is good defensively as well.

penner is a perfect replacement for pouliot plus he brings a bit more to the leadership table imo good idea :handclap:

He just makes too much sense.
