Here is my guess as to what happens:

Rangers sign:
Penner - 1 year @ 2 million
D. Moore - 3 years @ 1.75 million
Ehrhoff - 5 years @ 5 million
Carter - 2 years @ 950k
Gibbons - 1 year @ 900k

Bargain bin shopping

Let me just state that Sather LOVES players who play well against the Rangers. Ryan Carter. Brian Gibbons. Both have played very well against the Rangers

Ehrhoff is now the premier defenseman on the open market. He'll get more than 5x5 from someone.

I'd be okay with that. Gibbons has a bit of upside. If they whiff on Ehrhoff, I bet they use that money to get a better player than Penner (I'm assuming Fayne if they miss, no boyle please). He really sucked when he landed on the Capitals.. but t would only be a one year deal I suppose.

Every time I hear the name Jamie McBain I always think of that guy on NHL network

If Moore leaves, there are two center spots that need to be filled...

two need to be filled, and there is little, well no, depth. At least last season you had JT as depth. You also had Boyle and Moore who both can play center and wing. Last season' team was loaded with depth. This season's team...we shall see...

If we're making improvements at the forward position then there won't be spots for Miller, Fast, and Lindberg.

3rd and 4th lines.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - ?????? - MSL
Miller/Fast - Brassard - Zuccs
Miller/Fast - Lindberg - Carcillo

That 2nd line center position is needing to be filled.

Works out too. I may have undersold some of the RFAs, but there's ~2mil in cap space still, should be enough. Have Zucc so low because he said he'd take less money for more term.

EDIT: Lol, I think I missed changing Moore, but I don't think he gets much over 1.5m.

Still don't like our center depth. Would be nice to have a better #1 so stepan can drop into #2. Too bad for the limited cap space available.

Agreed, but barring major changes, I think this is the best we can do with the cap situation we have.

You may very well be right, but I just can't see this team inserting 4 rookies into the lineup. I see Miller as almost a lock. The rest, I expect to see some action, but not a full season with the team. Unless they blow everyone away at camp, I think Fast, Lindberg, and Allen are far from certainties.

I think Boyle and Stralman are gone. Pouliot and Moore, however, I think really depends on the market. If both can be had at a reasonable price, I would think it's management's preference to bring them back. Who knows with Sather, though. I just really hope he doesn't throw a blank check at Stastny, or any check at Dan Boyle. If we make it through the day without any major UFA blunders, I'll count us lucky.

I understand the concern with the rookies, but I look at the vets that took a bit of time to "get" the concept that AV was teaching last season and see Miller and Fast specifically having a year under their belt of seeing it, playing it to varying degrees and having a much better grasp of it to start training camp.

No doubt there will be growing pains, but I have said it time and again, I trust the system and I trust the players.

I'm not nervous with Miller at C as long as MSL is on his wing. He's a great mentor and plays well with younger players

If your going with the young guys, then a big splash will be made there whether by trade or signing. Stasny or Spezza will be plopped in there, and theoretically you could land Ehrhoff too on the backend.

Yeah, and he is looking at 10-12 minutes of 5 on 5 time guaranteed depending a bit on who we ice as a 4th lineer.

Miller is a good player.

Hopefully we can keep Diaz too. But I have a bad feeling Slats will focus on others, I don't like that. Reminds me a bit of how we screwed around with Zucc.

Diaz has more "potential" than many imagine...

Also, everyone seems sold on JT Miller as a second line center this year?

I wouldn't say that. A lot of people are slotting him as the 3rd line center because we have a lack of cap space and a lack of assets to trade for a center. The only reason you see Miller on the 2nd line in some lineups is because it's assumed that Brassard will stay with Zucc on the 3rd line, but as far as actual ice time, Miller won't get 2nd line minutes. The Brassard/Zucc line will be our 2nd line in reality.

I don't think so. Not many teams have the cap space and he is 31, soon to be 32 (in July).

Florida and the Islanders have to get to cap floor. Obviously Sabres cut him loose.. he had his best productive season with AV, and I do believe a reunion is possible, but who knows.

I believe there are rumors Florida made an offer to Dave Bolland ( 5 million plus I believe) so if he accepts some of their space is gone.

Ottawa is allegedly shopping Wiercioch, big D-man (not that I care about that) with offensive ability. Drives play.

I'd trade John Moore for him.

Probably going to get pretty wild at noon today being teams have been given a chance to talk to the free agents for a week.

Ehrhoff COULD get big money

I think he takes a modest contract in 4-4.5 range to play for a contender.

32 with 22 million in the last three seasons allows him to focus more on location than aav

Vrbata could be a nice Pouliot replacement. He's hitting UFA at Noon.
