I agree. I think the team is going to be significantly worse.

Excluding Stralman it's all bottom 6 guys. These are guys we can replace via FA or from the system. Additionally the number of 11 contracts is not really fair as obviously all the RFA's will be back, just at an unknown price (if we want them back that is).

That's what we said about the 11-12 team in the offseason.

spots like these is exactly what defines a GM. This might be the biggest obstacle Slats faces from now until his retirement so hopefully he will be smart about the UFA he retains and the ones he signs. I'm not so sure we'll be significantly worse though.

Ehrhoff would also give us a PP quarterback. AV will have a huge say if we make a push for him. He'd be such an immense help and immediate improvement to our defensive core.

We have 6 player signed who played in the NHL last year at F. Two of those players will be rookies.

We have 4 defensemen signed.

We have no 4th line. Our RFAs apparently want to get paid a lot of $, despite our cap situation.

All of our UFAs want to get paid.

This is our team.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Fast-Miller-MSL
X-X-X
X-X-X

McD-G
Staal-Klein
X-X

Lundqvist
Talbot

And there are NO whispers about any of our RFAs signing, around the league RFAs are getting locked up, Schenn, Berglund, etc.

I am sick to my stomach because I just don't know what's going to happen. If we lose all of our UFAs, we're not going to find adequate replacements. It's going to be a disaster. If that happens, and our RFAs get their "expected" contracts, we're going to be significantly worse barring some unexpected surprises like Lindberg/Fast/Miller stepping up and contributing.

Excluding Brassard, Zucc, and Kreider is wrong they are obviously going to get signed. Additionally I am not sure why you want whispers about our RFA's signing? I would prefer that there are no leaks and then it is just announced when it is done. Why should the negotiations be public knowledge?

Yet the only bottom 6 guy we lost between 11-12 and 12-13 was Ruslan Fedotenko and John Mitchell (who many disliked)

And Prust. And Anisimov/Dubinsky for Nash, who were both part of the bottom-6 at times.

We're not going to replacing Boyle/Pouliot/Moore easily from within the system. Hopefully if they do lose these players, they find adequate fill ins quickly like last time.

Because people are impatient.

We have five forwards signed and UFA frenzy is in two days. And we were in the Final this year.

Scary stuff.

For all we know the team could already have multiple cheap replacements lined up.

While guys like Pouliot are trying to cash in on a deep playoff run with the Rangers, there are plenty of other bargain-priced FA's who could be had. The priority is to keep as much of this team together as possible without forcing themselves into a bad spot financially. If BP wants more money than we can afford, it's the scouting staff's job to find a player, or combination of players, that can replace him. Is that Pancakes Penner? Nik Kulemin? Peter Mueller? Ryan Malone on a league-minimum deal? Can Steve Bernier be a replacement on the 4th line? How about Jack Skille? Can they pry Clifford out of LA?

Point being, a lot can happen in a couple of days, and a lot could have already happened and we just don't know it.

Are you saying the bigger problem from 2011-2012 was the loss of 4th liners as opposed Gaborik going from a 41-36-77 player to a 9-10-19 (in 35) and Richards going from a 25-41-66 to a 11-23-34 (where he had 16 of those points in April many in that one fluky week that included that 8-4 game vs buffalo where he had the strangest hat trick ever).

I would like to keep Moore. Even 2-3 years at 1.6-1.7 I think would be fine. As someone else mentioned that's always a tradeable contract plus in the absolute worst case it could be bought out (non-compliance) or sent to the minors to clear around half of it. I think I'd let Pouliot go because paying him 3M for 3 years is not going to be good for our cap situation. I'd definitely let Boyle go because he's almost assured to get a ridiculous contract as a UFA.

Because Bryan Boyle is almost certainly gone, he's the first UFA I'd like to say "Thank You" to for his time and success here.

Hopefully he goes to the Western Conference. Tough PKer to go up against.

A big reason why those players struggled was the increased workload and expectations to perform given the lack of depth. That team started performing much better once Brassard was added and we had somewhat of a three line team.

Whispers whatever, I didn't mean it like I want it to be public knowledge. I mean it like I'd like to have at least one guy ****ing signed by now.

I excluded Zucc Kreider and Brassard because you don't know whats going to happen. Until they're signed, anything can happen. Look at O'Reilly with Colorado. I don't think anything is obvious.

Like it or not, what I posted is the extent of players under contract who played an NHL game before. And that is frightening.

Because people are impatient.

Eh, it's not that I'm impatient. I've been pretty patient. We're rapidly approaching July 1st and we literally have 6 forwards and 4 D who have played in the NHL under contract. Maybe a couple others who had a cup of coffee from Hartford. We have several key RFAs and UFAs. I would feel much better if say, John and Dom Moore were signed, for example. Okay, we'd know their contracts, give us a better idea of who else we need to sign and where they slot financially. Something. As a fan, we know nothing, and the closer we get to July 1, the closer we get to losing our depth. If we lose all of our depth, we don't make the Finals again. We don't have the high end talent like Chicago or Pittsburgh to go deep in the playoffs, barring some miraculous seasons from certain players who shall remain unnamed.

In a post full of garbage.. that is the most off base... 2 million bucks for fayne?? try double that.. he is at worst a 2nd pair dman...

Also Staal for ROR Even worse.. Lay off the pipe buddy

Does people think ROR for Staal is bad value? I sure don't.

I'm happy as long as Slats ink a real heavyweight. I'm tired of those pitiful slapfests every time they try to defend a teammate, getting their butts spanked in every game.

But I guess that's too much to ask around here, you know...toffnuss stinks.

Staal is an upcoming UFA coming off a serious eye injury and concussion in back to back seasons. Whether its realistic or not 2 of his brothers are in Carolina there is always the possibility he follows suit. Even if he doesn't go to Carolina and he is shipped out, his perceived value here is just wrong..... Vatanen & etem??? ROR??? If those are the expectations you guys are in for a serious shock. Think late first & mid level prospect

2/3 seasons.

I'd take a flier on Gagner at a reduced cost. RH PP option and another center.

He literally just got traded to Tampa lol.
Yes but the facts that they (1) are currently over the cap and (2) tweeted out that they are buying him out (and later deleted it) leads me to believe they might consider moving him.

So Fayne is a comparable player to Ehrhoff and Stralman?

Who's got the pipe?

Some people really have no idea what they're watching.

Fayne is borderline top-4 at best and his "offense" leaves a lot to be desired.

Will he likely get offers for more than 2mil?

Sure, but not all players take the highest offer regardless of anything else.

If Fayne wants to sign here, it will be for around 2-2.5mil per season.

Sather will almost certainly make an offer to him. If he wants 4 mil, he can enjoy playing on the Island or Edmonton. No contender will pay a third-pairing D 4 million dollars a year. Get real.
