Raymond would be nice but i still feel like we're missing a true #1C there.

Also, why are we paying erhoff almost 5 mill instead of stralman?

because Erhoff is better, and a bigger need. PMD

Stralman.
106 games (playoffs included)
18 points.

Erhoff..
79 games.
33 points

We have enough "defensive" Dmen who are inept offensively (Girardi, Staal, Klein), we need someone from the blue line that can help Mcdonagh with points.. If it's the same or around the same amount of $, I take Erhoff.

He doesn't have any years left on his contract since it was bought out.

Erhoff with what he's made already on his current contract plus what he will get overall from the buyout, he'll get $36 of the $40 million. Not bad.

And why are we paying him 750k more then what his current contract is?

because other teams will probably offer more?.. so you have to at least be in the vicinity if you want someone to take less to play for you.

Why should his current contract determine his future contract given changing cap constraints and player ability?

Because he is not better then he was 3 years ago when he signed the contract and more then likely will regress instead of improve? Teams also have less to spend due to the cap not going up as much as planned.

Unless all he cares about is money and can go get paid top dollar by another cellar dweller.

If there is one player I want who is a UFA, it's Ehrhoff. Too many positives. I hope the Rangers management understands the type of impact he could have. He is the right age, plays a good overall game, knows the system and can play either side.

I thought he still under contract, Didn't realize he was a UFA. Wouldn't he command more on the open market than 4mill?

Yeah, but because of the points, I'd argue that him at 5M is more of a value than Stralman at 4.5M simply because he doesn't provide enough points.

Erhoff hasn't had less than 30 points (which for us would be a TON!), in the last 3 years playing on a horrible buffalo team. and as mentioned played really well for the Nucks under AV.. imagine him with Mcdonagh, Stepan, Kreider, MSL on the PP

I definitely think Kreider is low, but I'm basing it off the reports that he might not even get 2M..

I personally think Erhoff and Raymond would both fit this system really well, and give us some insurance is Staal and/or Hagelin price themselves out next year, while also helping this year. I fully expect Erhoff to get more, but I was thinking maybe since he's played with AV before and we just made the SCF, he might be interested in taking a little bit less..

Erhoff just got bought out of a $4M per salary. I don't think he's getting the same money unless the competition is really high. Even if there is demand, he underplayed his previous contract so I may be wrong, but I have doubts about your salary assessment for him. He had ok points, but he did not play very well (no one did) in Buffalo. All the Sabre fans were saying he was one of their worse signings. I believe someone even went so far as to compare his contract to Jeff Finger (ouch) but that was probably more the exception than the rule.

edit: well this explains why he was bought out. That's one crazy recapture penalty for him. Super front loaded contract.

The Rangers have been missing one of those for almost 20 years. Thats something I can live with.

The Rangers trying to force the issue? Thats whats hurt the team more than helped them.

Rangers should try to trade Staal and sign both Stralman and Erhoff.

Look to deal Staal to a team that doesn't need to send salary back in the deal. Look for a cost controlled C or LW.

Give 3-4 years to both. Stralman at 4.5 and Erhoff at 4.75-5 is better than Staal at 6 million.

Trading Staal for a young LW that could either play with Zucc/Brassard or Miller/MSL frees up another $2 million bcuz you don't have to resign Pouloit.

I could definitely see him getting $4M+ yearly. He just became the best defenseman on the market.

I like Erhoff because he would fit the system well if how we play... He would be a viable replacement on the 2nd pair for Stralman (for those who dont like Klein).. He will help the PP from the point and even 5 on 5, and on top of that, he's also insurance if we can't or don't want to re sign Staal.

One thing I hope Sather/Gorton/AV are keeping in mind about D Moore is the fact that he was our best face off guy.. and the 2nd best face off guy we had?.. yeah.. he's leaving too.. and we already couldn't win many.. freaking sign Moore..

Is it possible that the Rangers feel Lindbergh is ready to take the 4th line center duties and that's why they aren't supposedly willing to pay to keep Moore?. I've heard his strengths are exactly what Moore's were.. great on face offs, and on the PK..

I think both Ehrhoff and Stralman get more than 4 years pretty easily.

I'd give them 5, maybe Stralman, I give 6.
