That would be smart for the Yotes, but not so good for us. I'd rather sign him for cheap after they buy him out and keep our limited assets.
If he's bought out, he's a free agent and will likely command more than $2.75M.

I thought he was one of the better players on the ice for the Caps.

That said, I dont think hes great or anything, but beggars cant be choosers at this point when it comes to getting a solid, fiscally responsible center.

Telegraphing passes to AO for a one timer aside, I did not see much from him, especially on the back checking side.

I'm going to assume if he is bought out he probably still garners enough interest to make his contract relatively high.

Maybe, but what then are we giving up to get him? If he's making more than 2.75 mil, we probably can't afford him anyway.

Why would the Rangers have to give anything up? The Coyotes are considering buying him out. Rangers would be saving them money.

I would love Edler for Staal. It was the first trade I proposed when discussion trading Staal.

Edler provides more offense and should be able to fit in better defensively than Staal in AV's system.

Win on both sides. He's smaller than Staal, though.

Can't imagine how effective of a pairing Edler-Stralman could be.

We're taking him for future considerations? I'm sure the league would be okay with that lol. We'd have to give them something. Arizona isn't going to do us any favors just to save a little money. I'm sure there are other teams that would offer something for Ribeiro at half price.

Everyone would hate Ribiero pretty quickly if the Rangers signed him. He's not a very "high effort" player

@DarrenDreger: Kesler's agent, Kurt Overhardt has high praise for Canucks GM Jim Benning. Says Benning worked very hard with the 2 teams given (Chi-Ana).

Gee, don't see NYR on there....

@drosennhl: Chicago re-signs Jeremy Morin to a 2-year contract extension. Could he be trade bait now?

As I am watching the interviews with Gorton and Clarke, they specifically mention Bourque, Kristo, Lindberg, Haggerty and McCarthy on offense, Allen and McIlrath. He mentions they think both Allen and McIlrath may need a little bit more time. It's hard to jump into the NHL at that position.

McCarthy seems like about as long a shot to make it as Zamorsky.

Pretty good, 7th on the team, but he was also getting nearly 50% of his zone starts in the offensive zone.

I don't think it really matters though in this situation, he'd be a good center option, and would probably help the PP.

He's a power play specialist at best, he's bad at even strength and needs heavily sheltered minutes. He would be a bad option for a team looking for a center that could give them regular 5 on 5 minutes.

Ribeiro would be an ideal replacement for Richards, IMO. Probably an upgrade, more likely. He's a wizard on the PP.

Stralman resigned + Staal for Edler would be a huge improvement, I think.

McD-G
Edler-Stralman
Moore-Klein

3 puck movers. 2 guys that can get you 45-50 points.

Allows you to focus less on adding significant offense. Allows you more flexibility to inject more prospects.

Right now the cap for next season will be at $68M and that's causing problems. But wait ! NHL and NHLPA are still talking. Final # to come.

Wow, major development. If true, I expect to see more trades with salary moving tonight and tomorrow. A bunch of teams counting on $70MM.

Told the Coyotes are strongly considering buying out Mike Ribeiro. The veteran forward is under contract through 2016-2017. Not official.

Riberio was awful during the second half of the season. Just awful. Tippett made him a healthy scratch for several important games.

There was some noise about off ice and perhaps personal issues in the local paper. That may be driving this. I never heard anything directly.

For the Coyotes, eating $11MM in salary would be a financial disaster.

Well my one Coyotes fan friend told me that Tippett didn't put him in a position to succeed, and he's usually pretty on point. Was he really awful enough to warrant a demotion?

Garrison traded now.

I'd really inquire about Edler and try to poach him out of there.
