What about the RFA's? I understand the premise of UFA's wanting to wait. I do. But why has nothing been finalized with anyone?

I guess my major gripe is that in everything he does, he seems very slow.

To be fair, he's on the same pace he usually is. The season just lasted longer than usual!

How Sather hasn't re-signed ANYONE is beyond me. Dominic Moore should be a simple negotiation. Give him a couple of years, 1.5-1.8 million. Get it done. Time to start nailing down spots. The guy was a big reason for the success of this team. His speed and tenacity on the forecheck fit this team to a 'T' and he is very good on faceoffs and on the PK. AV loves him. What is taking so long?

He hasn't returned from his fishing trip with Brian Burke yet:sarcasm:

Nikitin signed w/ Edmonton 2 yrs. 4.5 per.

Kind of establishes a market for Stralman now. Conversely, it'll probably make Staal more valuable with such a shortage of good defensemen available this year.

As Singn' says, this is the normal pace...I think the focus is on UFAs and draft first, RFAs and trades second. You lose the UFAs quicker than the others.

I know you guys. I know you have been around a while. Why do you believe this is what is occurring? How many times have we seen Sather try to push players for the last nickel? That's his MO.

I'm not just saying he has to do something to do something. The problem I am seeing is no results currently.

Sather is going to put the squeeze in the RFA's. I dont expect those deals to get done any time soon.

As for the UFA's, I know this is tough to believe, but none of them are married to the Ranger sweater. Perhaps Sather hasn't proposed an offer yet. Whatever. The important part is why the heck would any one of them accept an offer without seeing what they're worth to the rest of the league?

The RFAs haven't even been qualified yet, but they will be. They aren't going anywhere.

It's not like Sather magically knows what the plan is on day 1 after the season ends. The entire management team has to discuss all their options and formulate a plan. That takes time. They have to talk to their pro scouts about free agent and trade possibilities. They have to talk to their amateur scouts about the upcoming draft and players they may want to target. This isn't stuff that is all going to get decided in a single afternoon.

I understand the frustration with Sather dragging things out, but the season just ended 12 days ago and the draft is the most immediate concern.

And you'd expect him to use whatever leverage he has, but then he spends whatever he may save on an RFA to overpay elsewhere. Interesting character.

How many UFAs don't get overpaid? Look around the league. Every GM does it. They have to, because there is so much competition for those players.

Sather isn't a bad GM because he squeezes his RFAs (though he's bad for other reasons). Other GMs are bad because they DON'T squeeze their RFAs.

Preach! I, for one, love the way Sather handles our RFA's

An interesting study would be to see what team around the league gets the most bang for the buck in terms of $$/point from their players. If I didn't have this stupid job, that would be a fun project.

Damn you, adult life!

Nikitin got 4.5 per/ 2 yrs

see ya Anton ...........he gets that and more yrs easy now

Nikitin has a much bigger body than Stralman. He's a little bit more physical.

Some times "Oooooo" players get paid more because of the hype.

Likelihood that he'll get something similar on the open market is high, though. Hopefully, much of this team would like to stay together and not break the bank for it, too.

Never stated he was a bad GM - not the thread for that. I agreed that he needs to use his leverage when he can. The second part was just an off-hand comment that really goes back to many years ago, but it didn't imply that UFAs are paid less than others. That's well-understood and I agree with that notion.

Hank took less to stay here. McD took less to stay here. G took less to stay here. MSL forced his way here and will likely take less to extend in a year. Zucc has been taking less this entire time and likely will take a very team friendly contract this offseason.

The core of our group is doing us solids. They're taking "fair" contracts. They're taking less than being overpaid, which is actually becoming incredibly helpful. If guys like Stralman, Moore, Boyle, and Brassard all follow suit by taking team friendly "fair" contracts rather than trying to squeeze every penny out of the Rangers... I think not only can we see the most important guys return... but we can see improvements, too.

Why not make the RFA an offer before they can test the market and leave it up to them to decide whether or not to test their value? We'd always have the option to match or better the other offer, but how does making an offer RFA hurt us?

On top of that, we're championship caliber too... even more justfication for those fair contracts that those players took...

These guys understand how important it is for a TEAM. we don't have selfish players on this team, that's imperatively evident.

I'm hoping the trend a) continues and b) isn't disrupted if we acquired a somewhat selfish guy... such as ROR.
