Crazy trade idea, slow morning, bouncing ideas around in my head...

to CAR
Marc Staal LHD
Derek Dorsett RW
Danny Kristo RW/Jesper Fast RW

to NYR
2014 1st rd. pick (#7)
Riley Nash C

(honestly not because of his brothers, but because they could use a defenseman like Staal to go with their young guys like Faulk and Murphy. We could use a young forward who is a natural center that has versatility, on a cheap contract. And a good draft pick).

UFA: Mikhail Grabovski C (3yrs/13.5m, 4.5m AVV) thinking about puck possession and speed.

Kreider - Stepan - Rick Nash
Hagelin - Grabovski - St. Louis
Pouliot - Brassard - Zuccarello
Miller - D.Moore - Riley Nash
Carcillo

McDonagh - Girardi
x - Stralman
J.Moore - Klein
x

Lundqvist
Talbot

Sign Brady Skjei to an ELC

Brady Skjei and Anthony Duclair to AHL Hartford Wolfpack

I'm thinking the corsi and possession folk would like it.

Only question is who wins that spot on defense.

I am open to the idea of trading Staal. But its quite clear the Rangers are in win now mode.

How does trading Staal + another roster player for Riley Nash and a draft pick help that cause?

I could get behind trading Staal under (2) circumstances:

1) Stralman has to be re-signed
2) There is a high quality 22-24 year old forward or offensive d-man coming back + other pieces.

Kadri + Gardiner for example (not saying I want this, just an example)

Thats a tall order.

I dont know who is going to trade a high end forward and a defensive replacement for 1 year of Staal.

I didn't mean they both had to be involved, one or the other. I would hope they could get Staal an extension with said team upping his value. I would think he would like to play for the Leafs.

If youre trading Staal for a defensive replacement, it seems like just a salary dump.

I cant see the Rangers doing that considering they just came off a final appearance and have some key players aging.

They've had no problem taking a pending contract decision into the season. Not saying its the right way, but its been the Ranger way.

An offensive defenseman would work out pretty well though. Younger player + other assets. Maybe they could grab a higher end C prospect close to the NHL.

I would prefer a Center. ROR makes a lot of sense for the way this team is built.

How Sather hasn't re-signed ANYONE is beyond me. Dominic Moore should be a simple negotiation. Give him a couple of years, 1.5-1.8 million. Get it done. Time to start nailing down spots. The guy was a big reason for the success of this team. His speed and tenacity on the forecheck fit this team to a 'T' and he is very good on faceoffs and on the PK. AV loves him. What is taking so long?

While I too would like to see some of the dominoes start to fall, I'm not sure you can put it all on Slats. It takes two to tango. I'm sure all of these guys have their agents whispering in their ears saying "you just went to the finals - that adds 20% to your value on the open market..."

Maybe D. Moore wants to check out his market value around the league.

That'd be the prudent thing to do as a player.

Maybe he's focusing on the draft first? Trades?

Is it really Sather's MO to re-sign players so early? Not really.

We all know he's fishing on his yacht somewhere off La Quinta, so let's not pretend like he's hard at work ;)

Many moving parts and perhaps his priority isn't Moore, it's more on guys who can go in the first couple days of free agency. Also, perhaps some guys are saying they want to see what the market brings and use the leverage. Have to believe something is being done.

Moore came out and stated they have not seen an offer from the Rangers as of yet.

And that may be the case for some of these players, but all? They have said they are interested in re-signing the following:

Brassard
MZA
J Moore
Kreider

Stralman
Moore
Boyle
Pouliot

None of these guys have finalized a deal? Seems odd, no?

I know you guys. I know you have been around a while. Why do you believe this is what is occurring? How many times have we seen Sather try to push players for the last nickel? That's his MO.

I'm not just saying he has to do something to do something. The problem I am seeing is no results currently.

Btw.. Paul Stastny's agent is now doing backflips instead of cart wheels. Callahan signs for almost 6M per u can EASILY say based on that Stastny is getting 7M+ easily

so callahan resigning in tampa gets us their 2015 2nd rounder. trade was callahan and 2014 first, 2015 first, and 2015 7th for MSL and 2015 2nd.

I don't know the answer, but how many UFAs around the league have finalized deals to stay with their current teams compared to those who haven't? You make the push as a team, but I'm not sure why any player wouldn't at least listen to what the market has to say. Sure, that doesn't mean the Rangers can't make an offer, and who knows what's really being done there, but I didn't expect much to be finalized at this point.

It's a dance. A business dance. It's funny that Sather does nickel and dime guys, since he also gives out full contracts to others; it's that his opinions are different than ours. He did try extending at least Stralman during the season. But again, I can't say for sure he's just sitting around without making an offer, and I'd expect his offer to take into consideration some sort of hometown discount, especially when someone says they really want to stay here, and as a player you wait until other offers come in. Again, I didn't expect a lot of pending UFAs to sign prior to free agency, although we would all like that to be the case.

Bored at work. This just fits. Why sign Gionta when Bourque is close to ready? Same size. Gibbons is another intriguing smaller player who plays with a lot of speed.

What about the RFA's? I understand the premise of UFA's wanting to wait. I do. But why has nothing been finalized with anyone?

I guess my major gripe is that in everything he does, he seems very slow.
