Staal would really be the only guy who needed to go.. and for instance IF we got someone like ROR to go with Stepan, than the Rangers could easily flip Brassard to a team that needs center help for a Dman who can take Staal's spot.. or something like that.. meanwhile you re sign everyone else (minus maybe boyle)

If we trade Brassard we still needs to find a C

If we had something like ROR and Stepan at the top I'm more than fine giving the reigns to JT as the 3rd center. just not with Brassard as the 2 because he's too inconsistent.. Stepan and ROR are about the same points wise, but you're getting 2 60+ point centers are the top with good two way play, kinda like Boston with Bergeron and Krejci.

I've already done cap geek and stayed under it.. especially moving Staal.. and that was with Miller getting Pouilot's spot and someone like Fast on the 4th line with Moore and Dorsett... that's not even counting trading Brassard for whatever D we pair with Klein.

I'm doing something wrong then... that's with a $69M cap? Any way you could post your lineup? Forwards and D...?

I get your point but I just doesn't think it will make that big of a difference to go after a #1 when shipping another one since we won't be able to line up with threathing 1-2-3 punch anyway.

Of course his overall is better but I shouldn't except him much more points than Brassard, he's doing good here maybe too streaky but he has shown up for two playoffs now.

However if we do, ROR should be THE target. No thirty year old seven million dollar dude.

Yeah we wouldn't be strong down the middle 1-4.. but we'd be strong at the top.. Stepan would make the 2nd line immediately better, and we'd have a really good 4th center who could step into the 3c spot if needed in a pinch.

Yeah I'm not really saying its a bad option since the team looks better and would probably been so but I think it's the wrong way to improve this team.

I'm standing still with hand the 3C spot to Miller, while I know it's not ideal but here's here and needs to play.. Explore trades from our d, like Staal or Klein+prospect should get some who is a step above Miller.

I don't think ROR is the be all end all and he's certainly not really a "#1" yet, but we would basically be the Bruins down the middle.. 2 really good guys at the top (bergeon/krejci), and 2 solid guys at the bottom.

I hope we don't make a move for E Kane. I think he'd be poor in the locker room and he more importantly has poor hockey IQ and IMO doesn't improve his teammates. If we trade for a top six forward I'd like to see a quality center come back even if Kane fills the need of a goal scorer who can skate.

I err on the side of caution, but he may surprise with AV. He got Kreider going again, got Pouliot playing consistently, got Brassard going, woke Higgins up, got the best of Hansen, Burrows. Worth a shot. Expect nothing.

The problem with trading for any winger is we just have so many already.. Nash, MSL, Kreider, Zucc, Hagelin, Pouilot if he comes back.. any assets we have to trade is better off upgrading the center position.

it's not that I don't want Miller to be the 3C, it's I'm more worried about Brassard being the 2C if Miller is the 3C I guess.

I wanted ROR, Stepan, Brassard, Moore/Lindberg, with Miller going with Staal for ROR... if Moore has to go, oh well, AV said he wanted to get younger.

Kane is like the one winger I wouldn't hate trading Staal for because he fills a LOT of needs we have. Big, fast, strong, trigger happy, goal scorer, two way player, top line LW. We'd be absolutely loaded on the wings.

I'd still rather trade him for a great center, that is if we're trading him.

I would rather have Lindberg on 4LW to learn from Moore.

Sounds like we'd be icing a very inexperienced 4th line, which would really come back to haunt us.

Kane is a two way player???

What???

Billy why I love you

Well if were going into next season with the same center lineup then the next feasible step to increase offensive production would be to upgrade the wings..

I'd be down as long as it was an immediate upgrade over either pouliot or hagelin, then you could ship out the one he replaces.

Still need the depth, the had solid production from their 3rd line and fourth (just like ours this past year) when they won the cup and even more so today with Soderberg behind them two

He's actually very responsible defensively and gives a lot of hustle.

There's a good reason he gets almost 2 minutes of PK time.

He doesn't make a lot of great decisions shot wise though, and is obviously prone to really dumb passes.

Maybe two way play was an exaggeration. He's for sure not bad defensively though.

I love you more tho

Someone mentioned Kane and I responded with an agreement on that post. Figured I'd run the numbers and see what we run into:

You could keep Staal and release Stralman for this:

Again, does not leave much wiggle room other than 13th F and 7th D... Also leaves Diaz or Allen to play on the second pair..

I don't know if this was discussed, but apparently NYR is using some of the money saved in buying out Richards for Stralman. As per Larry Brooks...

http://savebyrichter.com/rangers-believed-to-have-allotted-4-million-for-stralman/

Yep, this has been discussed in the Stralman thread.. This is about what I feel what he's worth MAX to us.. The question is if we have Girardi locked up for 5 years (NMC), Klein for 4 more years, and if Stralman signs for 4 more years, what the hell do we do with Mcilrath if he ever makes it to the NHL? He's pretty much trade bait right?

Here's a thought...

Does AV see the offensive ability coming back in Staal? If he does then that makes Stralman expendable and mcilrath ripe to take his spot...

They should even save more cap space by slotting Allen up in Staals place after in season evaluation... Then trade staal at the deadline for a forward upgrade.

Just throwing that out there

And yet we'd be wasting the talent of our wingers by surrounding them with one of the weakest center ice cores in the league.

Far better to acquire a center IMO.
