i'm pretty sure Sather offered him SIX year and SIX MILLION dollars...

so yes, it does

Yeah, I'm sure he was just playing Sather so he could take less money and fewer years in Tampa friggin' Bay. All it shows is that he tried to cash in on his importance to the Rangers and it didn't work. Now he realizes what the market is for him and he's looking for a new deal.

This "Oh he was just a mercenary and never cared" crap is just that. Crap.

Can't tell if serious.......

Yeah, Del Zotto- Girardi was a nightmare pairing, I'm glad it's something I will never have to witness again.

Girardi excels when he is paired with a superior defender such as McDonagh or Staal. He played some of the worst hockey of his career when paired with Redden and Del Zotto.

I don't think we need a guy to make Nash go. He goes by himself. He's a consistent 30 goal threat. Giving him better linemates might add another 4 or 5 goals and 15 assists, but he's never needed a top-echelon center to generate offense. In fact, I think a center who needs to see less of the puck would be optimal for him.

Also, putting our top prospect in a 4th line role seeing 10 minutes a night isn't exactly ideal.

Nash needs a guy who can maintain possession and cycle. Staz does that very well. Nash needs to be more involved and dominate down low with his size and reach. Keeping pucks in zone and having chances in close comes from a centerman who can own the walls and mid ice in the ozone. Stasny does that pretty darn well. Nash needs pucks on his stick in settled situations and after ozone draws. Staz does that too. Possession game works both ways. Create chances and keeps pucks away from opposing centerman.

Miller on 4th line isn't terrible right now. Av trusts his 4th line and plays them a lot. He will get a regular shift and will develop his defensive game along the wall. His future may well be a 2/3 c but for now let him have boyles minutes.

well if we're going to lure Diaz in, then what the **** is stopping us from this?

McD-G
Staal-Diaz
Moore-Klein

Hell, that works well cap wise too!

I don't know the advanced stats on Diaz, but he's solid on the power play, and works on this system

Still have a very little but of wiggle room on the cap with a 13th forward and a 7th D

You could even dump Diaz and Staal, then bring up Allen and resign Stralman for those two open spots. Worst case, they get the 3rd pair minutes for the first few months of the season.

Honestly, the D isn't going to turn into a piece of **** because we lose one defenseman... if losing that defenseman brings us a killer centerman, we win either way

The D would be seriously hobbled with Diaz on the second pair and that little cap room to maneuver if/when he shows that he's not capable of it.

Wow, Callahan supposedly resigning in TB. 5.5 million longer than 5 years

What a shame. I think everyone here would have loved that deal, too. He deserved it.

Can't believe he was asking 6.85 for 8... I'm convinced his agent ****ed him big time.

But, I guess 5.5 in TB is more than 6 in NY. No tax in Fla.

I don't even want him for 5.5

I'll take ST Louis at least for the next 2 years over him anyday.

You're asking a 30 year old NHLer to change his game. Good luck with that. Nash has always been a fancy player in a power-forward's body. He's never going to be a dominant board player who is hell below the circles because he's so big. He has reach. He has quickness. Those are his strengths. I just don't think adding a $7M Stastny is going to somehow cause him to re-imagine himself and suddenly realize his full potential.

AV trusts his 4th line because he has a 4th line he can trust. A defensively irresponsible JT Miller isn't going to generate a lot of faith in that line.

How low has Yakupov's value gone? I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him if his value was reasonable - i.e a 2nd and a B-level prospect.

Well if Diaz doesn't cut it then what about tom gilbert?

30 point defenseman that just came off a Buyout followed by a minimum contract of $900,000.... Surely that's better than Diaz for the same price of <$1.5M?

http://m.hkref.com/m?p=XXplayersXXdXXdiazra01.html&t=0

Don't know much about him. I don't think giving a top 4 role to a lower name like Diaz or a Gilbert will be on the table for Sather.

Then again, I'm advocating for Allen to take Staal's spot... we should get a better understanding of what will happen in the coming days.

If Callahan re-signs, I'd be inquiring with Yzerman to see if he wanted his 2nd rounder back in a deal around Brett Connolly. I think he's ready to make the jump and be a solid goal scoring winger.

Nash disappears in the playoffs for a reason. He's soft and his compete level is lacking. He looks like he's trying but he sacrifices scoring and becomes a glorified grinder. His so called quickness isn't evident most nights.

His most effective game is downlow and in front. He should dominate in the ozone. I submit that playing with stepan has effectively neutered his scoring because stepan cannot possess the puck and create due to his sloth like skating and general lack of strength. He and Nash together do not work. At all.

Jt miller needs to learn how to play a 2way responsible game if he's to have an nhl career. He's not purely offensive enough to cherry pick and be a sniper. He will need to learn how to play in all zones.

Av would agree with that take I'm sure.

I think when the Rangers made the trade for Klein (who is locked up for 4 more years at 2.9) they did it because they saw Stralman's (or Girardi's if they couldn't sign him) replacement. Klein is a very good D and played top 4 in Nashville.

wouldn't mind Connolly, but man we have a **** ton of wingers right now.

I didn't see that. I thought he was solid and in his role, he was pretty damn good.

But slot him up more? I think a lot more pressure would go on Staal to play better.

So much for Moore's improvement too, you can throw that out of the window. Klein's stay at home ability allowed Moore to roam more freely and play with more confidence.

Here was the last offer from the Rangers to Callahan.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger

End of the day, Rangers stood firm at $6 mil x 6 yrs. Callahan dropped to $6.25, but, NYR essentially ended negotiations on Tues.

Rangerboy had a post this morning that the no state tax would be about a 400 grand savings. If he is getting somewhere around 5.5 he basically took what the Rangers last offer was.

Although cost of living will be cheaper in Florida as well.
