Very productive talks today between SCG and @TBLightning regarding pending UFA Ryan Callahan. Finding common ground toward new deal

2nd round pick in 2015 coming? come on Tampa!

Then we just need McDavid or Eichel to slip 50 spots or so.

Moore, who will turn 34 in early August and who worked on a one-year contract worth $1 million last season, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. With fourth-line winger (and second-best faceoff man) Brian Boyle likely to flee next week, it is imperative the Blueshirts pony up in order to retain Moore, probably for no less than $1.7 million to $2 million per on a two-year deal.

“I’ve told them that I want to stay and I want to keep it simple,” Moore said. “My agent [Larry Kelly] has been in touch with them, but as of now there hasn’t been any negotiating.

“This is where I want to be, but if nothing is done by next week, I have to do the right thing and see what else might be there.”

There just isn't room to add Stastny without taking a step back somewhere else. He's a good player, but unless we let Stralman and Pouliot walk while adding some very cheap filler, it's going to be a very tough squeeze.

The real problem is the Rangers aren't looking for a #3C. They're looking for a guy to center MSL or Nash, depending on who the coach wants Stepan to play with. That's really difficult to do on the cheap. Grabovksi isn't a cheap option either.

We also need another right-handed shot up front.

Definitely think Moore has to be re-signed. Huge character guy is a good role model for the younger guys coming up in the organization.

The 29-year-old was eligible to pursue unrestricted free agency on July 1, but a source indicated that a new deal with the Lightning is “imminent.” While the precise terms of the extension weren’t immediately available, it is believed to be in excess of five years and worth as much as $5.5-million per season.

Yes ladies and gentleman, that's less than what we offered him to continue to be the captain of the Rangers for 6 more years where his heart supposedly lied...
Good luck in Tampa (if true), but this proves that he had no intention of ever signing with the Rangers, and Sather did a hell of a job turning him into Martin St Louis

Say Dorsett is traded for cap relief, who are other options to plug in on the 4th line right wing that are UFAs?

I dont think we should trade Dorsett.. Rangers should have more than enough cap to do whatever they want to do this season, and Dorsett will be gone next year.

Well, I guess it depends on the return..

Trade staal for a kid and a first. Can't afford him. Let Boyle walk. Offer poo 2/2. Give stralman 5/5. Let miller play. Diaz gone. Car bomb gone.

Use Richards money for Stasny.

Staz is a 1c on this team. He's an upgrade and a gamer. Hed be the best most complete center on our roster by a lot.

The numbers will be close but can work.

That doesn't really prove that at all actually.

Why are we paying a #4 defenseman (lets face it, that's what he is here, Girardi right or wrong will still be the top RHD), 5M?

Ryan Carter or Stephen Gionta are both UFA 4th line players. Not sure if the Devils are bringing them back, but both could step in here. Gionta made 562,000 last year, Carter made 775 grand last year. Both played pk last year, Gionta more than Carter.

Like I said, that forces us to take a step back elsewhere. Namely on defense given that we'd be icing half of a second pairing. Also, Miller has nowhere to play with Stastny, Stepan and Brassard down the middle. So unless he's sitting on the 4th line or playing the wing, that doesn't help.

Stastny is a good player, but he'd also be another left-handed, pass-first player. We already have a number of those and they can't all play on the same half-wall on the PP. Some consideration has to be given to where these pieces are going to fit on the PP which was a major weakness for us once again.

Paired with Mcd they would be a tough matchup for any line and would form a very good 1st pair.

Girardi will play with Conor Allen on 2d.

Moore Klein 3d.

Like it or not, stralman is our 2nd best damn after staal is traded.

He's a complete player and when you factor in puck on stick, he's dramatically better than both staal and girardi. Girardi handles pucks like live grenades. He's offensively inept.

1. Why are we paying Stralman 5 million?

2. The continued assertion that Stastny is a #1C while Stepan isn't and never will be is just hilariously wrong.

3. We CAN afford Staal, it's a matter of how much money can we really tie up in an offensively inept defense?

The Rangers have a couple of players who could step into a 4th line role as well. Lindberg, Fast, Bourque.

If the Rangers plan on re-signing Staal and Stralman, move Klein. Save on cap there. If the options are keep Pouliot or get another top-6 center, that's a no brainer.

Moore needs to be brought back.

That's pretty funny that Girardi is offensively inept while he had 11 more points than Stralman.

I'm not saying Girardi is good offensively (he isn't) or that Stralman is bad offensively. But for all the pimping he gets he did have 13 points. That's unacceptable if he expects to make 5 million.

I'm okay with that, as long as Staal returns a top-9 big bodied young forward. ROR. Kane. That type of player.

good point, and Girardi never misses a game, and plays 20+ minutes every night against the other teams top players.. Let me see Stralman do that, consistently for years first before I pay him 5M on this team.

Cally doing one more deed for the Rangers.

REAL good news for that lad who switched teams, thought he was going to be forced to do it again. Probably too soon to change his name again too.
