This is the time to trade Dorsett. Good exposure in the playoffs. His contract would be great to have off the books for what he doesn't provide. He was getting paid more than Dom Moore. Get a draft pick for him. I like the idea of Winnik. Makes the rangers a little bigger.

I dont like Dorsett, but the Rangers need to be careful about the 4th line here. It could be really easy to fall into a trap that those guys can easily be replaced. They cant.

Someone suggested Fast could replace Dorsett. In what universe? They a nearly polar opposite players.

What offensive skills? That was three seasons ago and a lot of those goals were fortunate bounces. Seems like it was the perfect storm.

I can remember at least three times towards the end of the season when he was in perfect position to pass to wide open teammates or create an odd man rush and he would just dump the puck or take a long range shot without looking up. No offensive hockey sense at all.

I love his defensive effort and fearlessness, especially in the playoffs, but it would be a mistake to put him on the third line or pay him as much as he might get on the open market. Can't blame him for cashing in on free agency and a good playoff performance.

If you're his agent, that's what you're selling and blame the system, linemates, and other things for lack of production thereafter. Just saying what will be sold. Oh, and was the dump the system? Is that what AV wanted him to do against top lines? Not saying he's a scoring threat. Just making the case he will try to make.

I definitely agree here. I'd want Winnik and Carcillo signed on each side of Dom Moore.

Winnik had a 1.8M cap hit last season, he's 29 years old and put up 30 points. would he really be cheaper than Boyle?

Yes, I saw.
Again, IMO AV would be making a mistake.
He's done a very good job, but I believe some of his decisions were mistakes (Pyatt, etc.).

Boyle at 2.5 on that line, whether it is the 2nd or 3rd whatever line for us, that would work. Big improvement over Poo. BB more conscientious, plays better all around, IMO.

That simple.

No guts, no glory.
If the gm or coach or anyone else is wrong in someone's opinion, you have the right to call them on it, as long as you can say why.

You're right, it's that simple....Because it will NEVER happen.

AV is not going to turn around and do something different because you think it's "that simple".

And Sather is not going to cram Boyle down AV's throat since AV is the first coach he's had in over 20+ years get one of his team's to the finals. Plus, Boyle is not going to take a one year contract when he has a chance to sign a multi-year contract and gain some security.

So, stop with the $2.5 million and get real--try $4 million, maybe Boyle would bite--if your first two assumptions had anything to do with reality.

Bern... do you remember how many times this board *****ed and moaned over and over again about Boyle on the 3rd line?.. Now you're talking about putting him with Zucc and Brassard which will likely be the 2nd line!?

I'd be fine with that, but I'm not sure AV really likes the guy.

I could understand why he doesn't, but I'm not sure thats the case. he fits here very well, and comes through on the 4th line when paired with Moore... Could do a 4th line of:

Carcillo-Moore-Dorsett

Assuming Moore gets $1,500,000 and Carcillo gets $825,000, then adding in Dorsett's $1,600,000.... That is just under $4M for the 4th line. More than reasonable, with plenty of Vet depth. any one of those players can move to the 3rd line if necessary

Dorsett doesn't deserve to be the highest paid 4th liner who is a 20 point scorer on the team. Ship his ass out for a 3/4 pick and sign Winnik.

I don't even think Brian Boyle himself thinks he is a top 6 forward.

and I love Boyle probably as much as anyone on this board. Before it was the cool thing to do.

Wonder if we could entice Carolina to give up Riley Nash. He would be a nice addition to the bottom 6.

I've always liked Boyle as well. Everyone would crap on him cause Torts had overused him, but he's a tremendous 4th line player and PK.

Right, and he wants to be more than a 4th liner which is his perogative, but we've seen that under Torts.. it doesn't really work.

I'd still like to see what Winnik would want. Even if he wanted similar money to Boyle, Boyle is the one who wants more of a 3rd line role. Of course I'd love to keep Boyle. Again trade Dorsett. Re-sign Carcillo. Decide on Winnik or look for a cheaper alternative. Maybe Shawn Thornton. And be done with the 4th line.

On the flip side of that as well, if your offense is better, that means you will most likely have the puck more. Having the puck is the best type of defense.

True.

Look he's not perfect because he isn't 23 or 24 and he isn't a fast skater but....

He's an upgrade over what we have and would improve us up the middle immediately.

His numbers last year were impressive.

71 25 35 60 +9

7 5 5 10 -1 playoffs

16.7 shooting % kreider led our team at 12.5%

He's a 57% face off guy too.

Projected out for 82 games that's 30/40 70 and that would have lead our team.

Zuke had 59 total points. He lead our team.

Stepan 82 17 40 57 +12

Richards 82 20 31 51 -8

Brass. 81 18 27 45 +2

LA exposed us big time. Their centers crapped on our centers. We couldn't match up. We are small and slow and created next to nothing. Stasny makes us better with his playmaking.

He's a very strong possession player and an extremely dangerous playmaker. If you watch him play, you see a guy with a very high hockey iq. He's a strong (not fast) skater and very good at controlling pucks. He would make both kreider and Nash better in that down low cycle that is a hallmark of the av system.

To your point, and it's a good one, he's very effective at possessing the puck and creating chances. He's a horse on the puck and a puck magnet. He's the kind of centerman we don't have now-a guy who can create time and space for his big wingers. Imagine kreider and Nash being set up. Matchup nightmare.

He can shutdown opposing centers. Played that game last season for colo and excelled. He controls the play and that's what we lack. A possession player who can create. Defensively he's rock solid.

He's hit 70 points 3 times in 8 seasons. Over 20 goals in 6 seasons. 50 assists twice.

Go get him slats.
