Just saw Daniel Winnik is going to UFA, may be a decent replacement if/when Boyle prices himself out. Lead the ducks in PK time LY, good size, not a great FO guy, but could be a nice replacement at a decent price. Just a thought...anyone know anymore about him?

Pretty much my sentiments on the last page. O'Reilly is a good fit, but how far will his production dip away from Mackinnon, Duchene, and Landeskog? He'll cost assets and money, but he's young enough to grow with the team. Off the top of my head, some candidates for "on the cusp and ready to break out" are..

Cody Eakin
Rickard Rakell
Filip Forsberg

Anyone else have any other ideas? Can't think too well right now.

I wonder how much of a solution Forsberg would actually be. It'd be his 3rd team in 2 years.

I mentioned Rakell a few pages back as well - liked what I saw of him in the AHL. I wonder what it would take to get him. Would love to have him, Miller and Lindberg all pushing for spots in the middle.

I know Forsberg is listed as a center, but he's actually a winger. Also I don't think Nashville would let him go. I think Dallas really likes Eakin as well, they just want him as a #3 not a #2.

Dallas won't move Eakin. They need to add more depth forwards, they're extremely thin on depth atm.

Rakell is interesting. Anaheim is loaded with prospects, maybe we could pick him up for Klein or something.

i know this won't happen since it's the islanders, but what if we trade nash to them for the 5th overall if dal colle or fleury is still on the board. the islanders are losing their first rounder next year, and therefore need immediate help so they don't blow it on mcdavid, eichel, hanifin, etc.

this move frees up cap space so we can re-sign all of our guys, most importantly keeping both staal and stralman. it also gives us a younger, cheap player who will be able to contribute either next year or the year after.

none of the FA or trade options entice me very much. i think the rangers need to do something creative and unforeseen.

Islanders probably won't do this, but I would.

Nash is not even close to hold the value of a 5th ov pick, but yeah I'd do it.

Come on lets not be silly now. Scott Gomez got us the guy who is primed to be our next captain, a solid 3rd liner (Chris Higgins) and a solid B-level prospect that could have actually been a bottom pairing defender for us had he gotten a cup of coffee.

Nash would get us a lot in return.

I'm interested to see if a team gives Peter Mueller a tryout this fall. I know he wants to get back into the NHL after being one of the top scorers in the Swiss league. Had a decent showing at the World Championship as well, though not as strong as you'd like to see for a guy who was once very promising.

Size, righty-shot and can play the point on the PP. Plays all 3 forward positions. I'd invite him on a tryout if he doesn't land any other offers.

the point regarding nash for the 5th overall is that the islanders need to be a decent team next year to avoid the embarrassment of trading away a high pick in the hyped 2015 draft in botched vanek trade. i could see snow coveting nash to put next to tavares.

Def not opposed. Always liked him.

How'd his speed look? Last I saw his skating looked a notch below average.

True.

If every NHL GM acted like a certain GM from north of the border.

Why does this front office *****foot around so much?

Is ANYONE going to be re-signed?

sather never signs the RFAs early...to me it would make sense to get kreider, brassard and zuke locked up now so then you know how much cap space you have left. but sather takes the approach that those guys can't go anywhere so why tie up the cap space before you have to...leaves himself more flexibility to make moves over the summer.

signing those 3 should be a no brainer but don't be surprised if they still aren't signed when August rolls around...thats the way sather rolls

Looked good enough to not be a hinderance on a larger ice surface. Certainly no burner, but he gets that extra boost with the puck on his stick.

Hasn't Mueller had like 5 concussions? Happy to invite him for a tryout, but I wouldn't want to rely on him in any meaningful way...

I don't think it was that many, but I certainly wouldn't offer him a deal unless he really stood out in camp. Just might be an interesting option as depth if we need to cut cost. He'd probably play for close to league minimum just to get a shot.

Wouldn't you always wait to sign the RFAs? You do have a sense for their worth and you have leverage. I think you estimate, go after the UFAs because there is competition, then sign the RFAs. Further, you may trade an RFA if the right deal came along. Think I agree with signing them later.

From the trade section of this site - I know nothing about the player..

Winnik probably told them he wants 2.5mil per year like he told the Avs. He'll end up setting for a similar contract ~1.75-2mil I bet.

Yeah everything could happen, I get that and I think he could gain a solid return but more in form of a nice prospect that might be a bit behind on the depth chart in his current club with a decent NHL player. With Nash recent health problems (three concussions in like a year), inabillty to put up points, two medicore playoffs for his standard and a enourmus paycheck I just can't see team giving up a top 5 pick.

And using a trade that lopsided as presedent is pretty silly.
