I'd put ROR between Kreider and Nash myself. That line performed quite well against top lines with Stepan as the center, and ROR is ever better defensively than Stepan is, and also nastier. Could slide Stepan with Hagelin and MSL and create a very dangerous second line that gets easier matchups.

Kreider - ROR - Nash
Hagelin - Stepan - MSL
Fast/Poo - Brassard - Zucc
Boyle - Moore - Dorsett
Carcillo

McD - Girardi
Nikitin - Stralman
Moore - Klein

Lundqvist
Talbot.

Trade Staal + for ROR +.
Sign Nikitin.
Bring back Poo, Boyle, Stralman, D. Moore, Carcillo.
Resign Zucc, Brassard, J. Moore.
Bring in a cheap 7th D.

Comes to about $72 million. Would work w room to spare for mid season call ups/trade deadline if the players/league vote to add new TV contract revenue.

We need to bring back Pouliot. He seriously cut down on the stupid penalties. He won't even come close to the amount of PIM he gets next year compared to this year. He battles his ass off, and has grit and an insane amount of skill when given the chance to use it. He can play both 5 on 5 and the PP (even though I'm a big advocate of taking him off the PP for Nash). We should be looking to ADD players like Pouliot, not let them walk for nothing

I think Pouliot will be back. He's bounced around a lot, and noted that. I think he takes a slight hometown discount.

very interesting tidbit...curious why no one else has mentioned it.

i don't see why either side would be against it. a higher cap is obviously good for the players. and from the nhl side it gets a bunch of teams out of cap trouble plus the owners are guaranteed 50% so if the estimate is wrong it just means players lose more in escrow so really no risk to the owners

that said i would think a decision on this would need to be made immediately...not really fair to have teams going into the buyout period thinking the cap is set and then change it.

ROR is 2 years older? Not that big of a difference. I'd try and keep both or not do the trade if it included Staal.

Can you guarantee Miller takes a massive jump close to what ROR is this season? Because unless you can do that, there's no way to it's worth it to hold him out of the deal. Miller has shown nothing at the NHL level short of the briefest of flashes. ROR right now in exchange for a Staal + Miller package would be an insane boost to our depth down the middle. We'd suddenly matchup well with just about anyone.

The thing about ROR as a potential trade target - why would the Avs want ANY center? Stepan, Brass OR Miller? They had O'Reilly playing wing due to how loaded they are at the pivot. Don't they really need defensemen more than anything?

Furthermore, if he's a contract problem waiting to happen, isn't that worse than Staal's situation? Hell, for all we know, Staal is signable in Colorado given how good the Avs, and how bad the Hurricanes, have each looked recently.

Lastly, don't forget how the premium traditionally placed 1st pairing defensemen - especially those with SCF experience.

All of this has me asking: do you really have to add to Staal in order to get ROR? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I wouldn't (I would), but I'm wondering if this isn't a situation where one for one might be possible. And even if it isn't, I don't know that any of the names I've seen bandied about are the ones that would go along with Marc...

Good point and that is wat glen has done is keep prospects but trade players he isn't going to just throw stuff out and try to get him this second he's goin to be smart about it

Even if we were to trade Staal for ROR straight up, how are we fitting everyone under the cap?

Assuming:

Kreider - ROR - Nash
Hags - Step - MSL
Pouliot - Brass - Zuccs
Boyle - Moore - Dorsett

McD - Girardi
Nikitin/UFA - Stralman
Moore - Klein

Hank
Talbot

We're look at a $70.9 mil. The cap won't be that high. If we assume we need $1 mil to operate during the season, that means guys are either taking reduced rates or we're moving people.

Moving Pouliot and Dorset for Fast and Miller would give us $400,000 in cap space if we're looking at a 69.5 cap. If ROR is getting $6.5, we'd be in for a tight fit.

Farm replacements include

Miller - C/W
Lindberg C/LW
Fast - W

I haven't seen any of Miller, Lindberg, or Fast play the left, but from what I read, they're capable.

It was going to be a tight fit anyway. And that's why we can't resign both boyle and Moore... I hate to say it but we need to choose one or trade brassard and replace him with miller... If we add brassard to the ROR deal or another draft day deal that opens up about $2 million with miller takin his place

ok, i need help here. especially since i dont watch the WC all tha tmuch.

what is so great about ROR? from the few times ive seen him play, i havent seen anything special, and he skates like CRAP from what i remember. his points are good, but hes on an offensive juggernaut. Stastny, Duchene, Landeskog, and MacKinnon as weapons in front of him. He's not even remotely looked at as the top offensive weapon there.

I just...dont see whats so great about him. Duchene seems like a guy that would fit what we need a lot more. we are a team built on speed, why are we getting slower guys?

Because even with fast teams u need people to go to the net especially in the playoffs. And ROR is a great defensive center with grit and he's only 23 and he likes going to the next something none of our centers do often enough..

he's a 50-60 point player...whose gonna make 6+ mil a year.

how is that something that makes any kind of sense?

I wanna throw some numbers out at you, and you tell me what your thoughts are on both players.

Player 1.

294 GP 197 Points, +59 1.02 hits per game

Player 2

345 GP 191 points, -8 .52 hits per game.
