The fact of the matter is that most if not all teams are flawed. There are areas that might seem obvious place to look to improve on this Rangers team but the fact remains that if our PP were better, it would have made up for other deficiencies and we likely win the Cup...or if we got even 2 or 3 more goals in general we would have either extended the series or won it. So although I would like a #1 center, a winger who could score more than Nash or MSL or Hags, etc...in the finals or an offensive Dman who can improve the PP would likely be just as valuable.

The Rangers need more right handed shots. LA has Carter, Toffolli, Brown, Williams, Stoll and Lewis. The Rangers have two. Stepan and Dorsett.

The feeling seems to be that the CDN bottomed out in the first quarter and is normalizing, probably to about 93 or 94 cents to the dollar. In late June last year, it was around 95 cents. Right now it's 92 cents. This turned out to be a smaller issue than originally thought a few months back when people were talking about a 0.70 CDN.

I have seen projections of the dollar below 90 cents by the end of this calendar year and lower than that by the end of 2015.

Anaheim could get Kesler. I know we looked at him as a potential target at the deadline.

Just wondering if Dan Boyle is a potential one year stop gap as a third pair D who can help out on the PP, especially if we lose Stralman?
I did not see the Sharks very much this year. I have no idea if he is done or still a useful player?

He is out of San Jose. He has the St Louis connection from his Lightning days. I am sure he wants to play for a team that has a chance to win.

This would obviously be a "Win Now" move but we are obviously a win now team. Hank's age, the St Louis trade, and this run we just had probably have Sather looking at the next year or two more than ever.

1) I'm not sure he's not going to get multi-year deals

2) His production has streakily declined in recent seasons.

I'd be surprised if Dan Boyle didn't get the Sergei Gonchar treatment at around the same age. 2-3 years, $5-6m. Not interested. I'm not sure I'd be interested if he was cheaper.

I am seeing the Thornton rumors as well.

1. Dunno what the Rangers would give up. Assume SJ wants futures, which the Rangers don't really have.
2. Getting another player who, just or not, has the playoff choker tag? Can't see that going well.
3. If it can get Nash going though that is tempting. Big if. Not worth the risk in my book though.

Seems like something the Rangers would consider though.

What do you guys think about the rumors of Thornton maybe being dealt? Idk what we'd give up, but there's speculation that he may waive his NMC to come play with Nash

I think it would be a pretty bad move.

Gorton was part of the brain trust that determined that Boston would never win a championship with him at the helm. Can't imagine that has changed. He's being paid as a go-to player. He'll be over 40 by the time his contract is up.

Terrible move, IMO, especially when there are much younger players to be had... players 15 years younger who could become a part of our long-term core rather than incoming AARP card recipients.

Not that I want him on this team, but McKenzie reporting that Winnipeg not far from listening in on offers for anyone on their team, including Kane.

obviously depends on the price, but there are several guys on the jets i'd be interested in

I really hate almost all of the proposed rumors and speculation thus far. I could stomach something around Staal/RoR if they ink Stralman.

Thornton? Boyle? Spezza?

Yukk!

Right now the only trade chip the Rangers have is Staal. Little to no picks and handful of prospects they would ship off for the right player. The options are limited. The Rangers would have trouble acquiring a kid like Scheifele because Winnipeg is going to want young NHL players, prospects or picks. They have none of the first or last to offer that would be enough, or they were willing to part with.

They just lost in the Finals, they are going to keep as much as this roster as they can and look to add missing pieces, so trading guys like Hagelin and Zucc are not likely or advantageous unless they bring back a game breaker. I think they make a move for a center or some form of PP QB, and then try to fill the rest from within.

If Staal is the only roster player they have to move to upgrade, that's probably a good move, and only because either he or Stralman are the odd man out, and Staal can be traded. He will get more money than Stralman as well. They could try to keep both and fill the C gap from within but they have a better chance of replacing Staal's minutes (effectively enough) than they do hoping Miller or Lindberg earn a C position and are good enough to give them a better shot at the 'Cup than with Richards.

Also, I'm not sure what it takes but getting big Buff in NY would add a PP QB, top4 D man and a guy who knows what it takes to win a 'Cup. That's a good move. Guy can skate and hit too. All around he would make this team instantly better.

I'd love to center a trade around Staal and ROR, and resign Stralman.

I think Skjei will warrant top 4 minutes within 2 years, hopefully sooner rather than later, which adds to Staal being somewhat expendable.

Adds a 2c down the middle.

Thornton centering Nash could be very successful and could be the chemistry needed to create the dominant 1st line we sorely lacked.

Finding replacements on defense won't be easy

Lundqvist is beginning a 7 year extension this coming season. He has more than next season and another year left. He better have more than two years left or the Rangers are screwed. The Rangers need to continue building the team. LA added Toffolli and Pearson to their team. They won the Cup in 12 and lost to the Hawks in 5 in the WCF last season. Too many fans are afraid to give young players a chance because the Rangers are now team.

I have zero interest in the Rangers making any trades with San Jose.

Say what you want about their on-ice results, but Doug Wilson is great at getting good value from trades.

totally agree, for those who are bashing thornton, look up the guy's numbers, guy is arguably the most consistent ''star'' in the nhl, guy never has a bad season, also hes arguably the best passer in the game, for gods sake jonathan cheechoo scored 56 goals with this guy, if he could do it, nash could score 70 haha
