Both Gaborik and Nash IMO would function best as complementary scorers then as the main guys--like Gaborik is doing playing on Kopitar's wing in LA right now. When Gaborik's your biggest threat you're pretty much heading for the 2nd round and then out. The Rangers have got to where they are with Nash somehow or other because they were able to mitigate his lack of goals by balanced scoring over 4 lines and their dependency on a very good defense and an elite goalie.

Nash and Gaborik are not elite players in my terms. They don't rank with the top 15-20 forwards in the league. They need more help to do what they do best than those that are truly elite. They are a rung below but in the right circumstances like Gaborik is in now--they can be a real force. Which is to say that if Gaborik were here and Nash was in LA it wouldn't surprise me at all if Nash had 13 goals playing with Kopitar and Gaborik had 3 like Nash has so far. If the Rangers had a legit 1st line center Nash would IMO be much more of a factor.

Another reason why it makes sense to improve on center depth than it does to try and ship Nash out while his value is in the toilet.

What has become the consensus on Zuccarello's next contract? He's been dynamite and it going to be the next jersey to get added to the collection

We are all speculating anywhere from 3.2M to 4M... He is arbitration eligible, so Slats probably cannot afford to lowball him. He was point leader of the team this year.

I'd assume he gets anywhere from 3 to 5 years... Hopefully the longer the contract, the smaller the caphit

I think 3.075 to 3.4 gets Zucc done. Even if they go to arbitration, Slats will say Stepan produced at a higher rate than Zucc in 12-13 and signed for 3.075, playing a higher priced position. For Zucc, I think 3.4 for a longer term is ideal. He's made hockey peanuts so far, I think he likes the organization and will take the guaranteed $$ to play in a system that works for him. For the Rangers, you might overpay by a bit comparison to Stepan's bridge deal, but in 2 years when Zucc is a 70 point player, he's a steal. 3.4 x 4.

I think he's more in the market of 4.25-4.4 for 5 years............ 3.4 would nearly impossible, I think.

I think zuke is looking for years not dollars..

I think he'll sign a 3 year deal worth 10 mill early in the summer...

He'll get like 5 years and north of 4 per average?? He just posted up 60 points for us in the regular season.

I don't think it's going to be a problem to get Zuccarello signed up to a fair contract, as a RFA, although he will be a UFA in a year if he refuse to sign a multi year contract, however he can't chase every dollar yet but it would be a very stupid from him to do so. He's a unique player that won't fit in everywhere and many won't even consider him due to his limited size no matter how skilled, gritty hardworker he is, he knows that, he has experience that with Torts. Now he got a coach who loves him and trust him to 100% in every situation he's also a very humble guy that already have accomplished so much more in his career than he ever have dreamed of, he enjoys being à Ranger and is proud about it.

those reasons alone will make him take a pay cut to what he could (emphasize could) make elsewhere... there's no guarantee he'd play well out in the west which typically has bigger players on their teams.

He fits here, and he likes it here, and I think he's a player that thrives on the media. He won't get that anywhere else but NY.

No reason why he wont take $3.5M over 4-6 years

I think your value for Zucc is over priced, he has had one great year.
I think he gets 5yrs./14M
2.8M Cap Hit
2014-3.2M
2015-3.5M
2016-3.0M
2017-2.5M
2018-1.8M

2.8 is cheap IMO espacially over 5 years from a player that has been the teams most consistent/productive forward over the season and showing improvement every week.

or then you sign him for 1 year 2.8M up from 1.15M in 2013,
and see how good he does.
I LOVE ZUCC but this is a business and to lock him up for 4-6 Yrs.
it will be around 3M, I believe less. we take a risk in the years.

Look at his character, do you think he will take any steps backwards from here? I don't, I have been following him for a long time now and like I just said he is just getting better.

I think it's a bigger risk to sign him for one year deal for him to prove this season wasn't a fluke, if he just keep this production, next contract will be expensive as him being a UFA and that's a big risk. Four something is very fair for both sides.

I'm telling you guys, it was pretty much decided in March. 4x4 for Zucc... maybe more $ at thiss point.

My guess is 4 years, 3,75M per.

Cap going up, Richards getting bought out. Plenty of space to give Zucc his deserved pay day.

I was told by someone who knows that it'll be 4... and when you think about, five gets risky, he'll command more by then (at this rate), he'd never take 3--only 2 are UFA years... unless Mr. Bean us his agent... 2 years--1 UFA, no way, unless it's like 7M in year 2... 1 is almost feasible to control the cap, but as the Swede poster mentioned, that might be a huge risk because, by all indications, he's a burgeoning star... this may have been his first stellar year, but his first two stints weren't bad by any means... fact is, he'd get 5.5-6ishM x 5-6 years on the open market if we were to fast forward to next July right now

I'd give Zucc 4 years at $3.7. Fair deal and term for both the team and player.

Also I'd seriously look into trading JMoore for Colin Wilson... or a Colin Greening. RH Shooting centers that can also play the wing, bring some size and girth into the line up in the 3rd line role.

61-21-26
20-16-36
62-28-12
10-22-Wilson

I think you buyout Richards.

I think you bring back that Brassard line. I think you bring back Boyle & Moore too. I love Stralman, but I think you let him walk and use that money and the money from the Richards buyout to get a C.
