The off-season is now a success, IMO. I do not have to witness either Mike Ribiero or Derek Roy in a Ranger uniform next season. Life is good.

True. Brouwer plays substantial minutes on both the PP and PK for Washington, while Hagelin isn't really a good PP option.

He's also bigger and has a perpetually high shooting percentage.

But I think there's something to be said for continuity in a lineup, and Brouwer is a UFA in two seasons. All things considered it isn't a "Hell no" type deal for me, but with the way Hagelin played for us in the postseason I'm much more comfortable with bringing him back.

I guess my thought was Hagelin was going to be paid at the end of next season and the Rangers seem to have a few of those 5'11-6' good 2-way players coming who may be able to fill in that role. It has been harder for them to find a good top-9/6 power forward who can deliver some hits and disturb the opposition.

If we are going to trade Hagelin he should go in a package for a Center.

Not willing to trade Hagelin until the bolded is a little more certain.

Not too bummed we didn't add Roy or Ribs. The latter wouldn't have been a good fit and Roy has definitely fallen off, IMO. He's also another undersized forward for a top-9 that already has two 5'9" or less forwards on it.

I'd be interested to see if the Preds might be putting Wilson on the market. He'd be a good add. Big body who can skate and score that definitely needs a change of scenery. Solid replacement for Pouliot, or could fill in at center if Miller isn't ready.

Like the thinking on adding Wilson. Would also love to explore Berglund, too.

My only issue is they're both lefties when this team desperately needs a solid right-handed shot in the top-9.

I still want the team to look at a guy like Jordan Schroeder. Small, but he shoots right and can play center. Loktionov as well, but he's another lefty.

I think Schroeder signed with Minny already. I do like Loktionov, but he refuses to play wing and he's not particularly effective on face-offs or in his own zone. That really limits his effectiveness at center. He's also another smaller guy.

Wilson isn't a righty, obviously, but he does fit well in front of the net on the 2nd PP unit. The $2M cap hit might be a little bit of an obstacle though.

Damn, you're right. I missed that just like I missed the Miele signing, another dude I was pumping up to bring in.

*sigh*

Agree on everything about Loktionov. If nothing else? Just another body to push Miller. We need the competition.

I'd love to buy low on Wilson.

Berglund just got extended and is a poor skater anyway. Don't think he'd fit well here.

Schroeder got extended too. Would've given him a chance.

Would anyone do a trade like:

Troy Brouwer (Caps hold onto $500k) for Carl Hagelin?

Add's size and some experience.

No way.

Brouwer is a joke at even strength and has a very inconsistent motor.

He's also exclusively a RW.

that is tempting.

would love to add him to the left side, but that's not happening.

Maybe Staal to the Caps for Brouwer and Vrana?

Absolutely not.

1. Staal in the division? God no. He also makes the Caps good, while not addressing real needs for this team. We don't need that.

2. That package isn't enough for Staal. Most WSH fans would trade Brouwer for a 4th round pick.

3. Also not high on Vrana really.

Is it really that confusing?

They're cheap, okay, but if they don't add anything to the team it's a waste of a roster spot. I wouldn't want either of them for 0 million.

Adding additional scoring is something.

between them the last 2 seasons they have averaged 80.5 points per season.

84 last year and 77 in 48 games the year before.

We are looking for cheap depth that can provide offence.

Not sure about you, but even if we 35 points from each player at a million dollars per that is HUGE.

Neither are long term answers, but we can't afford long term answers as we cannot fit them financially and do not have the attets capable of acquiring them.

Additionally both would lend more of a hand in getting back to the finals than the kids we are going to be playing and should something change in that regards, off to the AHL they go with 100k remaining on our cap..

And I personally believe that Ribs more than controls himself in a winning environment.

I think adding any center capable of playing in the NHL at this point adds something to the team

I have to think they will find someone to center MSL's line. I'm all for leaving spots open for kids, but realistically the spot open is the second line center spot, with a veteran goal scoring winger, on a team with playoff expectations and aspirations. I haven't seen much of Miller, well, mostly because he wasn't up here much and I didn't watch any AHL games, but from all reports, and judging by numbers, he's not ready for 15 minutes of NHL ice time with 40-50 point expectations, and it's not fair to put him in that place, and with MSL in the lineup, it would be a waste to not take advantage of a guy who just seems to pump out 60 points every season. So it seems as though something would likely be done. It may be something crazy, but it may be something.

The Marc Staal trade proposals really need to stop. The hate on here is unreal. He is gona be crucial for us next year.

I really dont know what is going to happen with the center position. I know many think Miller isnt ready for 15-20 min a night but I'm sure many didnt expect MSL to do so well with guys like Palat, Johnson, etc and no stamkos.

It would not surprise me of the hope is that MSL could bring Miller/Lindberg along in much the same way that Dubi rode shotgun with Jagr his rookie year. That year (07-08) was Dubi's 4th year post draft and his first NHL season. This will be Miller's 4th year post draft as well.

Dubi stepped in an potted 40 points that year. By comparison, the prior year in the AHL Dubi put up 43 in 71 (.61 PPG) compared to Miller's 43 in 41 (1.05 PPG).

Barring something ridiculous (Thornton or ROR forcing a trade here) I would assume they are banking on a repeat. Miller fairly catches some flack for not producing enough to date...but he is a very good prospect. In some ways the expectations have gotten ahead of where they really should be. If he had spent the full last two years in the AHL as a 19/20 year old vs being forced up I guarentee people would be over the moon on slotting him into the lineup.

Rangers had the chance to have a good 3rd line. But then Ribeiro made less than Tanner Glass and we still didn't sign him. Unbelievable.

They still have the chance to have 2/3rds of a good third line if they sign Stempniak or Penner.

They already have 2/3 of a good third line.

Where?

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Brass-MSL
?-?-MZA

Unless you have Brass on the 3rd, in which case it makes just as much sense to sign Ribs. Bad move.

One of Miller or Lindberg will be ready. And quite frankly, I'd rather have one of them in the lineup than one year it mercenary work from Ribeiro or Roy at any cost.

The kids are going to have to play eventually so we may as well embrace it. JT has looked good when he played center when Brassard was hurt.
