2014-2015 Manchester Monarchs - 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

Forget NHLer, Jordan Weal might become a reliable top-six player for our club. Doesn't belong in the AHL.

Wow!! A little bit of what I just said!! Forbort gets play going the other way, taps it to Weal, we watch his magic, and Mersch goes to his office, and yes, he has hands!!!!!!!

Jeebus, Kent Huskins still plays hockey? Seems like he's been around forever.

If Weal doesn't get a good look with the Kings next year, I will be mighty disappointed.

Mighty Mersch, the crease crashing beast. What a playoff warrior, and that line was creating chances shift after shift. That game was sheet dominance from the baby Kings.

weal was instrumental in every goal. didnt get an assist on one of them but he did the work on the boards first and then shore assisted i think. and mersch was great too, being always at the ready. o'brien had lots of good chances, and o'neill. shore with some shots too. we are good to go! 1 up...

Weal belongs on the Kings! And, he should play Center. It's just that simple!!! I know I see Lewis postings, but...

It's like this:

Kopitar
Carter
Shore and Weal
Dowd

If you need to move someone back to wing, it might be Carter! And, nothing to do with his C play, it's just he can do it and it might work out better for the team.

The boys have some chemistry going, for sure.

Utica goalie is super-good, though. Saved Utica's bacon again & again.

Weal's rush was awesome, as was Forbort's breakout-pass.
Mersch was right where a power-forward is supposed to be.

O'Neill had a standout game too. Miller had some nifty moments as well.
Most guys seemed to be playing well overall.

In the Kings Org, the scouts have done their jobs (drafted good talent), and the AHL coaching staff
has been excellent as teachers/developers of young players. Stothers looks like a real find, and seems at this point to be
as good a coaching talent as our best playing prospects.
If Stothers keeps this up, he'll be The Kings successor to Sutter.

JMHO, but ...
NOW, it's time for the NHL coaching staff to do their jobs and look at some of these guys next season in order to enhance the club, and give 'em a shot, fer chrissakes!
I don't have to name a couple of the key players I'm talking about. You know which guys I mean.

Right now, I'm feeling a lot of man-love for The Kings Scouting Staff.

Now, about that online feed quality:

I felt like I was watching a VHS tape of the game on an HD TV

Sutter has to give Weal a fair shot after all this. It would be bad for the organization if the kids' hard work did not pay dividends.

The question for me is....do they give Mersch a shot? The Kings need someone who'll park his butt in front of the goalie like Mersch does. And he's burying all his chances. Could he actually take Jordan Nolan's job? I'd love to see Weal and Mersch together in LA.

Agree on Weal. I feel he will either be with the Kings or they'd better get an outstanding return for him in a trade. I'd prefer he's in LA.
Mersch is gonna take another year. Love his tools and that he plays in the dirty area, but I don't see him up with the Kings next year unless we have some significant injuries.

Yes!! You are watching exactly what is on the scoreboard, with the radio broadcast feed. Wait until Miller scores off the face off on the power play, but all you've seen for a minute or so is the kiss cam, and then on to the proclamation that it's the Terminix Power Play!!!

Now that some of you are first timers in seeing Manchester play, I'm going to throw it back out there. Weal is an restricted free agent, and even though he's never played an NHL game, it wouldn't behoove me to see another NHL team give him an offer sheet!! Some have claimed that's preposterous!!! Ha! Thoughts?

Giving an offer sheet is somewhat like forcing a trade. People tend to act like we can trade free agents, restricted or otherwise!! It's more like an agent agrees to the trade because the new contract with the new team has agreed to terms. We have to trade him prior to July 1, and then, the new team just gets a restricted free agent who they can negotiate with until July 1, at which point they now have a restricted free agent. Make sense? Both trades and RFA involve compensation going the other way!!

Offer sheets being completed are rare as it is, and that's with proven NHL players. While not exactly a preposterous idea, it's unlikely.

Is that the official AHL feed, or was it just the Manchester feed I watched? I swear you could get better quality pointing a laptop cam at the ice and using Google hangout to broadcast.

And another game tomorrow, oof.

That's the way they've been streaming AHL games for years unfortunately. Pretty basic setup but I guess they want to keep it cheap.

Ordinarily, I just like to watch the game without being bothered trying to coach the players (goes for baseball as well) but I could not help but notice that Utica is very vulnerable to even the slightest bit of forechecking. I picked it up during warmups, when they were doing their 3-on-2's and their D had lots of trouble with the puck. During the game the Monarchs forced a few turnovers with minimal forechecking, so I'm surprised Stothers didn't jump on it.
If they can pressure Utica early and force some turnovers and actually capitalize on them, this will be a very short series.

BTW, I was 275' from the GWG, what were they reviewing? The net?

Yeah, they were checking to see if the net came off the moorings before the puck went in.
