2014-2015 Manchester Monarchs - 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

Yes!! You are watching exactly what is on the scoreboard, with the radio broadcast feed. Wait until Miller scores off the face off on the power play, but all you've seen for a minute or so is the kiss cam, and then on to the proclamation that it's the Terminix Power Play!!!

This! The struggle is real!

Assuming Schultz is out tommorow, which I would guess is pretty likely. It'll be interesting to see who Stothers goes with. At first I thought Ebert. But Ebert hasn't even been in warm ups in the playoffs. While Kevin Raine has. I wanna say he even got into a game in the first round. But I could be wrong. Both are right handed shots. Raine will give the Monarchs more defensive reliability. But Ebert of course brings the offense. Which could be a big thing verse Markstrom. Ultimately, I'll think it'll be Raine.

Now, about that online feed quality:

I felt like I was watching a VHS tape of the game on an HD TV

The feed gave it a nice Vintage feel and ambience.
Kinda' like 1979.

I didn't catch it during the game. But apperantely Sven Baretuchi left the game with an injury for the Comets. That would be a big loss from them. He's one of their top players.

What a great crowd tonight. Hope its the same way for game 2

It's conceivable it will be the last AHL game played by the Monarchs in Manchester. I wish it was a 2-2-1-1-1 format, because it would be pretty epic if they could win the Calder Cup in Game 5 in front of their fans…

Gotta get there first, but I think the Monarchs are a better team and should dispose of Utica unless Markstrom steals the series...

Markstrom is definitely capable of stealing some games. Hell he almost did tonight. With help from Berube.
I was so into the game I really didn't notice Schultz leaving in the 1st period. I would bet on Raine going in as well. He hasn't played since the Portland series tho I don't think.

Ordinarily, I just like to watch the game without being bothered trying to coach the players (goes for baseball as well) but I could not help but notice that Utica is very vulnerable to even the slightest bit of forechecking. I picked it up during warmups, when they were doing their 3-on-2's and their D had lots of trouble with the puck. During the game the Monarchs forced a few turnovers with minimal forechecking, so I'm surprised Stothers didn't jump on it.
If they can pressure Utica early and force some turnovers and actually capitalize on them, this will be a very short series.

BTW, I was 275' from the GWG, what were they reviewing? The net?

Utica goalie kicked net off moorings at least 5 times last night, maybe today the refs will do their job and call delay of game penalties.

Has it been brought up yet that the 2015 AHL Western Conference champions will be in the Eastern Conference in 2016 and the 2015 AHL Eastern Conference champions will be in the Western Conference in 2016?

Maybe Ebert is hurt a bit? Raine played wing almost all year. He did play D though in the last game he was in. So, it'll be interesting to see who replaces Schultz.

My thoughts from someone that watches almost every game!

1. You haven't seen Miller! Schultz leaving early has him a little confused with the musical chairs partners.
2.Forbort, his usual solid self. Steady. Skates well. Play moves the other way.
3. Weal and Oneill will figure out this goalie, it's a long series. I guarantee it.
4. Mersch likes the front of the net, and he has hands to be there. He's a load!!
5.bods has played well, Loverde average.
6. Gravel playing very well. Only D that plays the off side. If Schultz can't play next game, look for Ebert to be paired with Forbort(Ebert right handed), Gravel moves to left side along Miller.
6. Auger!!! I've posted before Rick Nash! Very young! Tough! And, although not tonight yet, wait til you see him undress someone with his reach!! Maybe in OT?
8. Berube needs a professional eye exam, with special contacts for sports. The number of long shots that have sailed in on him this year have more to do with him not picking up the puck too well!
12. Back to game!

I liked this post. I appreciate fan analysis during and after the game. (Missed not seeing CNS analysis, though.) You mentioned that Kevin Gravel was playing very well. Well, he had 4 shots yesterday. Bodnarchuck played 35 minutes and had 5 shots, as did Michael Mersch. Paul Bissonnette had 3 shots. In fact, 15 Monarchs players had shots, 6 of which had 3 or more. Utica had 10 players who had shots. Cory Conacher had 3 of those shots and no other player had more than 2 shots.

Yet, even though the Monarchs had 20 more shots and dominated in periods 2 and 3, they were lucky to get the overtime win. Does that make anyone else nervous?

So you're telling me they STILL won't see each other during the regular season?

I hope Jeff Schultz and Sven Baertschi will bounce back quickly from their injuries. Schultz for our sake and Baertschi, well, you hate to beat a team (if that's what happens) because one of their best players is out to injury.

Not anymore than before. Winning a championship isn't supposed to be easy, so anyone who wasn't nervous before had unrealistic expectations.

Markstrom was unreal yesterday and used some veteran savvy to dislodge the net multiple times to bail him out. Even if he was able to maintain that level of play, Berube had a bad game, and even an average performance would have been a regulation win.

Because of the one bad goal? Or did you feel it was sub-par overall? I thought he made some nice saves. (Sudden flashback to Portland series.)

A Kings-related team is faster than any other team they've seen this year. Let's savor that for a moment.

I'm not feeling too nervous. As I said in earlier. The game remind me a lot of game 1 verse the Pens. I think we'll see a similar series. Markstrom was great, no doubt. But he did have a little lady luck on his side. There was a sure goal by Nick Shore that was prevented when Markstrom kicked the net of it's moorings. (I don't think it was intentional) He was also beat cleanly twice on wristers, but the Monarchs just ringed it off the posts. As I've said, the Monarchs just gotta keep doing what they did in game 1, and they'll win the series.

As for Berube... He's frustrating. Because despite that goal. He played a really good game. Even made a couple huge saves. It just seems like every other game he lets in that bad one. The good news is, in all the previous rounds, he's gotta better as the series went along. His infamous bad goals usually happen early in the series, and at home. It's really a bizarre thing. Maybe it's the lighting in the arena. :dunno:

Maybe bad was too much; sub-par is a better description. The Monarchs played a very strong game and limited his workload. That goal was just terrible.

It's encouraging to see the baby Monarchs light up top prospect goaltenders all the way home, that's for sure.
