Bordy's career might be in jeopardy with this season too. I think he's one of, if not the best 4th line enforcers in the league, both in his fighting ability, and playing ability for an enforcer, but the reality is they're always fighting to stay in the NHL. That's why McLeod's been one of the best in his roles, because he's stuck while most everyone else like him has struggled.

If Bordy doesn't have a good season (by his standards) next year, it could be tough for him on the UFA market.

Maybe by then they'll be ready to bring up someone else who can play that role and hopefully contribute a little hockey too.

Hopefully by then they'll realize they don't need someone to play that role and they'll have good hockey players in the lineup instead.

Roy likes his big boys but if he gets enough real talent in those big kids then yeah maybe there's no need for an enforcer. But I don't think the physical presence is going to go away, he wants more. For example Geertsen can fight like a heavy weight so if he can do that at the NHL level and actually play defense then that's a double bonus.

He's never come right out and said it, but I'm constantly getting the feeling based on little comments from him, that Roy would be happy to see fighting completely go away in the NHL. Not sure I understand why he feels that way either.

Even as recently as the Landy-Ladd fight. He was heaping praise on him, while at the same time making sure to tell everyone they're not necessarily for fighting.

Avs will set records in man-games lost for marginal players and have the perfect excuse for why they aren't doing well.

McGinn, Bordeleau, Winchester and Wilson will have at least 250 missed games this season.

Sucks for Bordy, will probably not help him as a player, and he really wasn't good to start with. Luck for him that he has got that extra year left at 1M.

In some ways I believe him but in other ways I think he's being PC. I think he liked the Landy fight and was giving it a PC slant but when he says fighting is declining and will eventually go away I believe that's his true opinion there. But there is a big difference between fighting and having a physical presence, which I do think he's very much for. I believe he will make the team more physical as the years go by. I don't think fighting will go away in this era at least so he's going to need some guys around that can handle business when they need to but I can believe he doesn't really want his team to start it.

Have to agree, He'll be lucky to make the team next year or factor into games without a few injuries happening first, simply put a goon can't miss a year of hockey and expect his spot on an NHL team.

Yea I'm not sure he really wants them overly physical either. They could be a lot more, but he obviously doesn't tell them to go out and hit, because they constantly pass up massive hits in order to try to steal the puck and then try to block the pass.

I think they'd be much better served finishing more checks, because they aren't all that successful blocking outlet passes, or clogging up the neutral zone with back pressure this year either.

I probably should look this up before saying this but aren't they at least top 10 in hits or around that? They hit more than some other teams do. I recall in that second game this year against Minnesota they slowed them down by hitting on their breakout. I agree they could do it more.

How can you tell? That particular statistic is very, very subjective. Hence (IMO), moderately useless.

I do believe the Avs are a fairly polite hockey team, all things considered. I'd like to see them be more physical.

Well statistically, but yeah I understand it's up to how each arena scores them. I do think the Avs hit a fair amount but I agree they play a very clean game, and pretty much too clean. Which is why it's hilarious when fans of certain other teams get on their high horse about the Avs being dirty.

Broken leg what the hell? I didn't see it either. Must have just been a fluke play.

Poor guy just started to make it in the league and was so happy the other day.

It was just a weird collision against the boards in the first period. I saw him limp off the ice but the announcers didn't even notice it. Can't believe its a broken leg
