Not my country or my team, but could someone explain to me why Marty St. Louis wasn't the second player chosen for Team Canada behind Crosby?

Beats me. I'm not happy about the St. Louis exclusion at all. Such a slap in the face to such a great Canadian player who has continued to be one of the top talents on the planet into his late 30's. I mean, he just won the freaking Art Ross last year!

Canada does not need Lucic.

I know this may come as a surprise to you but the object isn't exactly to scare the opposition. The object is to have the best hockey players, especially on the big ice. I have a feeling Lucic would look like a big buffoon trying to play his game on the big ice in Russia.

Okay, "scare" was probably a bad choice of words. How about "tough?" Wouldn't you agree that toughness is part of Canadian hockey? I'm not saying to dress a bunch of fourth liners by any means. I just want a bit of nastiness on the roster - someone who'll throw a thunderous hit to spark the team when they need it, or plow through defenders to get to a rebound.

Have you every played hockey on an international size rink? It is not easy to just throw a thunderous hit. You are more likely to take yourself out of the play and cause an odd man rush in the opposite direction than you are to spark the team.

The best teams are all going to be built around speed and skill. We don't need a bunch of grinders or guys just there to be physical. The team is fine as it is.

Lucic would be hard-pressed to make my C team, whether it be on NHL or international ice.

Well, you are probably right... the guy is a Lucic fan, so I didn't want to run him over and be overly harsh, I was having a good day and was being magnanimous.

Babcock just said Subban, Weber, Doughty and Keith were "elite" PP guys and then he said that Pietrangelo was a "good" PP guy. He also kind of shied away from answering if he'd use 4 forwards on the PP or not.

I personally think Pietrangelo is the 2nd best PP guy there after Subban, but it doesn't look like he'll get much of a shot based on those comments.

I think Lucic would be great with Getzlaf and Perry, but I really don't think he should be considered for international hockey. It has nothing to do with the ice size as he's actually a really fast skater at his top speed, but it has to do with how strictly the game is called. You can't really be much of an intimidating force if the refs call everything.

Fair enough. I'd love for Lucic to patrol the left side of the Habs' 1st or 2nd line, but I've never seen him as a candidate for Team Canada. Too many warts in his game, and too inconsistent for my liking. People will inevitably bring up the Brenden Morrow comparisons, and Morrow was great for us in 2010, but then again in addition to being a superb bottom 6 player (on the smaller ice surface) he also brought a very solid defensive game and an ability to kill penalties at the Olympic level, neither of which Lucic really has in his arsenal.

5 points in 3 games on the California trip.

Giroux has been great over the last month. If pretty much any Canadian forward goes down in the next week, Giroux should be able to replace them without losing anything.

I'm sure Pietrangelo will get his shot on the PP unless they are ridiculously successful. Unfortunately, starting off against Norway and Austria may have an inflationary effect which can disguise deficiencies. Goaltending is more worrisome there though.

Giordano IMO......

also I would rethink the goalies......

Price is the starter....

Luongo is terrible right now but some of that is his team.....

Smith has no business there...

radical maybe but I think

Price, MAF and Jones in that order....

Luongo's playing good, actually. So is Lack. I guess you are just scoreboard watching. "Terrible" sounds very ignorant. They both have been giving the Canucks a chance to win throughout this losing streak. It seems like every night the goalie is the Canucks' best player. Guess that happens when your team never scores goals and gives up so many glorious chances.

Giroux should really be there. He's playing better and better as the season goes along while a number of other guys have cooled off.

I agree, a lot of partisan fans are bringing hyperbole into this thread. People seem to not realize that good players are going to be left at home no matter who is chosen. The staff made the best decisions they could with the information they had at hand.

Yeah if Team Canada were being picked today, no doubt St. Louis and Giroux would be there, instead of guys like Duchene or Benn. Duchene has one goal in his last 22 games for crying out loud. Seen him play a couple of times last week and he was invisible on the ice. Not sure about Benn's skating on the big ice. He looked slow on the big ice last year at the World Championships. Duchene has not been performing well this past month. To start the tournament, i think he should have a seat in the Press Box with the Popcorn and enjoy the view from the top instead.

"Благородный" is "noble". Magnanimous means "великодушный" :)

neither word do I hear in everyday conversation... better advice to KevyD would be just to keep it simple and say Вежливый (KevyD, that is pronounced as vezhlivii) and means polite.
