Maybe Yzerman and St Louis have talked :yo:

In all seriousness though, I agree with this. It will be a literally hour-before decision on Stamkos. St Louis has to be the replacement IMO, but wouldn't be upset if Neal or Giroux were the replacement. Anything other than and I'll be pissed

If Couture were healthy by then, he'd be a solid replacement too. That said, not sure if he'll be back. He's been shooting in practice, and apparently his shot looks like it did before, but he's not taking any chances.

If Stamkos plays an NHL game and then the three round robin games in Sochi, i'd bet a stallion player like him will get his game on. If he does'nt go i bet you'll get minted my avatar. All things considered, hopefully you'll get it anyway.

No way...might as well take Stamkos...i dont want anyone who is not 100%

Stamkos might be 100% in 3 weeks (by the end of the tournament) ...MIGHT or MIGHT not it is not a chance i want to take

Neal or Giroux should go..probably Neal because of Crosby...

Many players come back from an injury and play out of their mind - and I mean that in a good way. Canada will not need him for the first 4 games. If he is back, at his best, for the Semi's, I will be happy.

Yeah, my avatar tells you I'm biased, but if Stamkos can't go, I'd take Lucic. I don't see anyone on the roster who physically would SCARE the opposition, by which I mean cough up the puck when they see him bearing down on them, or think twice about hitting our stars too hard.

Not on the big ice, my friend.

Yeah, that's the standard argument. But I've watched him a lot, and while I wouldn't say he's fleet of foot, I wouldn't call him slow, either. He keeps up with Krejci, for example. And again, I want to see someone who plays with an edge. It's part of Canadian hockey, I think, and is missing from the current roster.

All that said, I hope Stamkos will be there. Heard him interviewed today, and he sounded positive.

The big ice proved to be Thornton's demise.

Not a chance!~ I'd take Mackinnon to play on big ice before I'd take Lucic. speed scares defenders more on big ice more than slow footed bruisers.

Not my country or my team, but could someone explain to me why Marty St. Louis wasn't the second player chosen for Team Canada behind Crosby?

MSL is always getting dissed... some of the dinosaurs at Hockey Canada have their prototypical forwards and 5'8 doesn't quite fit their mold unfortunately.

wth are you talking about? :)

He's mocking Team Canada for leaving the NHL's top two scorers this decade off the team because they're not big and tall enough.

Also, Giroux just had a great game against the big and skilled Sharks.

I guess I'm just partial to a more well-rounded team. I think there's plenty of speed on the roster already. Again, while Lucic is not fast, I don't think he's particularly slow, either. He's a bruiser, yes, but he also has no problem putting the puck in the net. He was huge for the Bruins in last years playoffs.

On another note, I'm wondering if anyone else shudders at the thought of Subban on this team. While I don't question his offensive ability, I can easily imagine him taking a bone-headed penalty at a crucial moment in a game. That scares the heck out of me.

World Cup in NA? for sure! Lucic is my 3rd line Left winger! but in Europe on a team that already includes Getzlaf (average NHL skater) Perry (poor skater) Tavares (average skater) Benn (a little better than average skater) you're just compounding the problem by adding players where skating is a huge question mark.

That's my take on it. If I had my way, Perry wouldn't have made the team.

My best guess at this point is that Stamkos will be in Sochi, even with only 1 pre-Olympic game under his belt with TB. He'll likely start off as the 13th forward / PP specialist, but (hopefully) gradually get more ice time and work his way up the lineup. I have reservations though about whether he'll have the physical fitness level, speed, and timing necessary to play up to everyone's expectations (including slotting in next to Crosby on the first line).

I'm glad that I don't need to make the call on whether to leave him home in favour of Giroux / St Louis, as I can't imagine that being an easy decision to make. I really hope Stamkos, the TB organization, and Hockey Canada know what they're doing though, because everyone involved seems to be pretty cavalier about rushing him back in time for the Olympics.

Canada does not need Lucic.

I know this may come as a surprise to you but the object isn't exactly to scare the opposition. The object is to have the best hockey players, especially on the big ice. I have a feeling Lucic would look like a big buffoon trying to play his game on the big ice in Russia.

Lucic would be hard-pressed to make my C team, whether it be on NHL or international ice.
