i liked him when he was on the Habs but once he became a UFA and signed with the Leafs he sucked.. he is from NY. i can see Islanders Rangers Devils being interested in him.

Wouldn't be bad as a bottom pairing guy while McIlrath matures some more.

What is Lacavilier thinking? The flyers have no defense and a bum in net. Both Streit and vinny have had recent injury issues.

Dumb. Flyers desperate can't blame them...

Vinny getting crazy cash, so I guess all that's left is a cup with philly..... not!!!!

Lol

Thats why he signed with the Flyers... He feels at home from playing in Tampa Bay.

Its a 4 year deal for 22.5 or 5.6mil Cap hit according to Lavoie. Makes it much worse when they have to resign Giroux/Couts/Schenn next year and still dont have a goalie. Oh wait their gonna go get Thomas, LOL.

Good thing that my friend @Real_ESPNLeBrun is watching me. 5 years / 22.5 for Vincent Lecavalier

Yea saw that and forgot to edit. Even still the point stands. They have to resign Giroux/Couts/Schenn next year and have no #1 goalie and a mediocre defense. So you give Vinnie 5 years and a full NMC. Just terrible management. If Sather did this he would be crucified. The flyers are going to lose someone good very soon, imo and on paper they are still far from a playoff team, imo.

Apparently Dreger saying Vinnie signed with the Flyers. When will they learn. Yea lets add to the offense, which is the least of their problems, and not solidify goaltending and defense which is atrocious. So funny.

mmust be the pennsylvania curse?

4.5M is a great deal for VL...ASSUMING he's healthy. But 5 years with full NMC is frightening if I'm a flyers fan. He could be a shell in 2-3 years.

Lecavalier is not too bright going to philly. Team is not getting better. They have no goalie. Their defense is overrated. They have less depth up front now. IMO they will move Schenn for a cap relief. His cap hit is 3.11. That is appealing as he does not make all that money. They will move him over Couts.

By the way, I have a sinking feeling that the Flyers are going to be very good this year. And it will be inexplicable.

so the Flyers with even less money than we have cap wise can spend but we can't. how does this make sense lol.

Take my word for it, teams looking to add to their roster in the coming 2-3 years is going to have to pay dearly and then some. If you can get such a solid player as Vinny Lecavalier for 4.5m per, you make room for him.

Slats really dropped the ball on this one. As usual, we in NY walk backwards heading into the future. We never figure out what kind of misstakes we make, hence we draw the wrong conclusions from them and make more misstakes.

Brad Richards has not declined on us, long before we got him I wrote that the player we got was the player we was going to get. If we expected more, we just scouted poorly.

Vincent Lecavalier would not decline on us. Lecavalier is what he is and he would have been a great center for so many wingers on this team, he really would have helped this team. He would have given us a PP. Etc etc etc. In 4-5 years he can be an excellent 3rd line center in the NHL and for 4.5m per that will not hurt you with a cap surely being 80+ and probably 90+.

Huge misstake by Slats.

He wasn't asking for more than $1.7m, his qualifying offer had to be that big. Which is why he wasn't qualified and is now a UFA.

Gotcha.

Well, for what it's worth, if the money is right, and if Clowe departs, Mueller should be looked at.

Aside from Montreal, other teams with interest in Briere include I believe Nashville, NYI and NJ, among others

Teams with interest? If he doesn't want to go anywhere far from Haddonfield, NJ... does it matter who is interested?

NYI, NJD, NYR and WAS seem to be the only teams with a real shot at him.

Maybe someone lures him away with piles of cash, though.
