Think they're moving Schenn to wing. Or may move Couturier for Ryan or package for a top pair dman. Still think Holmer has some splashes to make July 5th and beyond.

There's no way Philly can keep Schenn and Couturier after next season. The smart move is to move one for a good, young defenseman, but nothing indicates that they're planning on it.

They can't go all out of their forwards, only o patch together their defense and goaltending. Who will be playing goal for me this year? Their defense looks attrocious. They still have a lot of work to do.

Take my word for it, teams looking to add to their roster in the coming 2-3 years is going to have to pay dearly and then some. If you can get such a solid player as Vinny Lecavalier for 4.5m per, you make room for him.

Slats really dropped the ball on this one. As usual, we in NY walk backwards heading into the future. We never figure out what kind of misstakes we make, hence we draw the wrong conclusions from them and make more misstakes.

Brad Richards has not declined on us, long before we got him I wrote that the player we got was the player we was going to get. If we expected more, we just scouted poorly.

Vincent Lecavalier would not decline on us. Lecavalier is what he is and he would have been a great center for so many wingers on this team, he really would have helped this team. He would have given us a PP. Etc etc etc. In 4-5 years he can be an excellent 3rd line center in the NHL and for 4.5m per that will not hurt you with a cap surely being 80+ and probably 90+.

Huge misstake by Slats.

If you hover your mouse over the star next to his cap hit, you will see that he has a bonus of 525k. Those are performance bonuses which he may or may not achieve. No idea what bonus types are included in his contract, but if you want to see what types of bonuses are possible, you can check page 326 in the CBA:

This explanation might be a little more than you were looking for, but it will hopefully make it all clear.

His cap hit is $1,244,167, but for the purposes of calculating his daily "cost" against the cap, subtract the 525k from that total and you get $719,167. Then divide that number by the number of days on the roster. For the sake of simplicity, let's say there are 200 days in the season next year. $719,167 divided by 200 is 3595.835. Every day that Miller is on the roster, he will count that much against the cap.

Any bonuses that he earns are charged against whatever cap space we have remaining at the end of the season. If we don't have enough cap space to pay off all of the bonuses, the remainder is automatically deducted from the following year's cap. In years in which there is no bonus cushion (last year of the CBA or a year in which the NHL or NHLPA has the option to opt out of the CBA), then all of the bonuses to be paid that year must fit under that year's cap.

In practice, we don't want to use the bonus cushion if we don't have to. The old cap calculator used to have an option to not use the bonus cushion in the calculations, but I don't see that option in the new one.

I wouldn't mind Raymond to shore up the LW, but only at $2.5m or less, which means it's pretty unlikely. Other than that, stay away

I think we should see how the kids look in camp. You can always trade the guys you mentioned during the season if the youth is ready and we have enough depth.

While those three are garbage players, it makes sense to keep them to start the season since there are no other options. The kids need time to develop in the minors and it may be detrimental stocking them up in 4th line roles.

Sather has gotten people to take players I didn't think was possible and turn them into great moves. I have no doubt he could move both pyatt and Asham

First of all, picking up Streit on a +35 contract is so risky that I cannot believe that they where willing to do it. Just reckless IMO. Streit is still a very good PMD, but that doesn't make up for their risk.

Second of all, Lecavalier is a really solid centericemen with good size, he is strong on FO's, he is still really good on the PP, and what not. Getting him for 4.5m per and 5 years (he is only 33 y/o) is a steal.

And at the bottom line, they have definitely improved their team greatly for next season. Their PP will be top notch. Streit, Timmonen, Grossman, Coburn, Schenn and Gustafsson is a solid blueline. Their goalie position is as always weak.

If Streit is hurt long term, they might as well close shop with 10m dead cap space on the roster, taking that risk is beyond stupid. But nobody can argue that they aren't improved...

These two will lock up 10M the next four years and they are 300k over the cap today with no buy outs left and only one goalie singed, not a very good one either. Would be awesome if no GM helping them out with Meszaros, then they are in real trouble.

Scoring goals is not a issue for them and their PP is already very good. Neither Streit or Lecavalier will fix their problems. They can try outscore everyone on the way to the cup but I'm sure they will fail.

My bigger concern would be hags and cally not ready.

But I think there are a number of prospects who could fit as 3/4th liners now and it not be a negative. Lindberg, fast, Kristo. Probably all guys that may ultimately settle in as 3rd liners. Maybe borderline 2nd, but they all play a style that they can fit well in the bottom 6.
Not sure it's all that difficult to replace Powe's 0 goals

If Chicago can be playing a 21 year old Shaw on their 4th line, no reason the rangers can't try their young guys there. Seems they are too scared about letting them play and make mistakes

The NMC killed it, otherwise I liked the move for the Flyers from a hockey standpoint. They got the best forward on the market and will move one of their young forwards for a top dman this offseason.
